  1. Why would they have to re-establish the wrestling program, it would be great if they did, but I don't see that being an obstacle to hosting a SS.
  2. This would be a monumental task to try and move at the last minute. Literally the only place I feel confident could pull it off, is Calumet. Wouldn't that be ironic....Calumet and Coach Wadkins coming through in a pickle!! Honestly, I hope and pray that EC can resolve the electricity issue.
  3. How legitimate is this in terms of not being able to host the SS tomorrow?
  4. Lol. What direction do you want this post to go? There are a number of newbies that won't recollect those battles.
  5. Another glaring example of how important winning the regional is without wrestlebacks. Haskins was up 14-4 maybe...Congrats to Cruz and Merrillville, it aint over til its over.
  6. Is this an implication that a different IHSAA member school, other than the two directly involved with a certain mid-season transfer, contested the transfer? Is that even possible?
  7. Vega and Keith...it doesn't get any better than that. Throw in the rest of their staff to dot all the i's and cross the t's...solid.
  8. Ed, I guess what I'm hearing is just worry about Carmel.
  9. 106: Hollis 113: Diaz 120: Bautista 126: Cummings 132: Toss up but I'll go with the Lowell kid, he has to roll with Cummings every day 138: Burford 145: Traficante 152: LaMore 160: Kasch 170: Scott 182: Potoskey 195: Ramus 220: Akers 285: Foster CP wins, Lowell 2nd, Valpo 3rd
  10. So...are you headed for the dark side Cosgrove? Now that you're not coaching I mean.
  11. It really doesn't matter why they do it, who cares for that matter. The simple fact is that they do...is that good bad or indifferent for Indiana?
  12. The top ten % is NOT going to change. This is not a class wrestling topic, although it is inherently hard to keep it out of the conversation. Do the majority of head coaches in IN see the benefit of best on best competition? Does that build programs across the board, or do the rich get richer?
  13. Schools that are fortunate enough to fill 2 or more teams are probably more concerned about getting them an event to wrestle in more so than getting them in "varsity" meets. Are very many of the top 10% creating marquee JV opportunities? The DAC puts on a JV conference tournament, and it's pretty competitive. I know that at least one big NWI school that had previously allowed our JV to enter did not want them this year. Rumor had it that other teams participating were not comfortable with it and threatened to bail. It would make sense to have the top 10% take turns hosting marquee JV events for similar schools, but I'm not sure that the potential travel involved would fly with AD's and travel budgets.
  14. I was actually being sarcastic sportsfan, I think there's plenty of great coaches and great programs in our communities here in NW Indiana. Plenty of off season exposure can be gotten regardless of what school you attend also. IL programs, especially parochial ones, do have an edge in scheduling though. Selfishly, I wish the RWA guys would have taken over an Indiana program instead of heading across the border. The region is weakened from a scholastic standpoint that's for sure. Weren't the Griffith and Crown Point jobs open at the same time as the Mt Carmel job?
  15. I have a feeling that with the pipeline in place that runs from Calumet HS to Mt. Carmel, many area head coaches will be able to give some names in the near future, if they can't already.
  16. LOL. Nice! Mt. Carmel will continue to get plenty of talented Indiana kids, like it or not. Why shouldn't they though? The level of exposure kids will get in their program, especially without travel/recruiting restrictions isn't comparable to "most" Indiana programs.
  17. You'll be okay coach. You have good coaches and good guys in your room. Being right on the border with IL though...you could be in a pickle with some top tier talent being recruited away from you.
  18. Portage will be competing in the Brecksville, OH Holiday Tournament next year, but to lock it up they essentially have to say that they understand our travel "dilemma" and won't accept a team from too far away.
  19. The Cheesehead would currently be off limits as there is an AZ team attending.
  20. I agree with Matt, the 600 mile thing is fine for Indiana teams, but who cares how far other teams traveled to a tournament, not really sure what the thinking was behind that in the first place. Props to Brownsburg for maintaining their #25 national team ranking, it is definitely deserved and is probably too low. Detroit Catholic Central #18 was beaten pretty handily in a dual by Portage last year. The team rankings are pretty arbitrary but have a lot to do with having nationally ranked individuals and who you compete against. It would be nice if Indiana teams could play host to the country in one or more in season scholastic events, we need to do something to make this happen.
  21. While a solid argument on behalf of the Morans could be made regarding the legitimacy of their Portage "residency," it's not my place to do so. These boys were not denied eligibility based on that anyway, making it a moot point. The basis of denial was a move for athletic reasons citing a "past link." This was discussed at length in another thread. What puzzles me is what's going on in other parts of the state...multiple mid season transfers gaining instant eligibility...some of which (if they're true) can't be anything but transfers for athletic reasons. I want them all to wrestle, but like you said sportsfan, right is right and wrong is wrong.
  22. Meanwhile, the Morans, who actually moved to Portage and enrolled before school started are still sitting. What a joke.
  23. I thought only the oldest Goering transferred? Have the others transferred post-Al Smith?
