In a somewhat simplified version the team are chooses mostly based off of the previous years performance of none-seniors through the state tournament series. There a slight calculation adjustment for the senior achievements (next man up consideration), as well as, the quality of competition at each level of the tournament the the teams faces (years of data crunching there). The previous years results basically have to be used at this time to help most of the teams who qualify make proper adjustments the following years schedule. 8 teams invited in for 4A and 3A. 12 teams invited for 2A and 1A. The top team in each semi-state in each of the determined classes are invited to ensure their is representation from each semi-state. Then the next highest scoring teams overall from each of the classes are invited. The final two spots for each class are voted in by the IHSWCA Committee during the spring meeting based on information that the on the bubble teams send in to show what they may look like next season. However, this year due to the Covid year messing meets up and an to attempt to be more accurate with the most current results it was decided that the last vote-in team would be decided after some of this years results came it. That would make one team from each class scramble to adjust their schedule, but hopefully also allows a very deserving current team to get in.
