Nine Cadets Battle Through Day One

Team Indiana started with 32 grapplers at the FargoDome on Wednesday and after the dust had settled nine were left.  Leading the way was State Champion and defending Cadet Freestyle National Champion Stevan Micic.  Micic tore through the competition without allowing a single point en route to five technical falls.  Included in that is a 7-0,6-0 thrashing of New Jersey State Champion Anthony Cefolo.  Returning Cadet All-American Brandon James looked as sharp as ever at 120lbs with three technical falls, one pin and a decision without giving up a point.  Another Perry Meridian Falcon, Cody LeCount has also looked good with five wins of his own on the first day.  Robert Steveson, Conner Tolley and Gavin Jolley-Little also came away from day one without a loss.  Carson Popp, James Malone and Jose Champagne have one loss on their record heading into day two.

The remaining cadet wrestlers will weigh in at 1:30pm tomorrow and their session is scheduled to begin at 3:30pm.

Comments: Micic could see California phenom Zahid Valencia in three rounds. To guarantee placement Micic will need to probably win one more match.

Brandon James

120lbs Pool A

Wrestlers with 1 Loss: 6

Going Out Next Round: 2 to 4

Comments: This is a loaded pool with Oklahoma State coach John Smith's son Joe wrecking havoc on the top side.  He just pinned Greco champ Vincent Turk in 29 seconds.  James will need at least one maybe two more wins to solidify a spot on the podium.

Cody LeCount

132lbs Pool A

Going Out Next Round: 0

Comments: No wrestlers in this pool have a loss so Cody will need to win at least one match to make the placing rounds.  Voss and Kraisser are ones to watch in this bracket.

Jose Champagne

Going Out Next Round: 1 or 2

Comments: Jose has the luxury of having a bye this round which will help him to advance.  I think he still needs one more win to make the placing round.  Luckily with the bye it will get him away from Cali super-stud Aaron Pico for a few more rounds.

James Malone

Comments: Malone has undefeated Daniel Vitale this round and will need to win to survive to place.  He will possibly need at least one more win to place.

Robert Steveson

Comments: Steveson is looking good sitting undefeated going into day two.  One to watch for in his pool is Washington stud Chandler Rogers.

Carson Popp

Going Out Next Round: 1 to 3

Comments: If Popp wins he is likely to place and with a loss he still has a shot of placing but would need some help.  His opponent next round will be a tough one in Greco 3rd placer Christian Jenco.  Popp will need to not get pinned and score at least one point in the bout to have a shot of placing if he loses.

Conner Tolley

Comments: Tolley is looking solid in his pool as one of only two undefeated wrestlers left.
