Bryce Hasseman tabbed to lead the Mishawaka Cavemen

SCHOOL CITY TO NAME VARSITY WRESTLING COACH

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Terry E. Barker today announced that he will recommend to the Board of School Trustees for the School City of Mishawaka that Bryce Hasseman be named as Mishawaka High School’s new varsity wrestling coach. “We are pleased that we were able to secure a coach of Bryce’s caliber to fill this position,” said Superintendent Barker. “Without a doubt, Bryce has the technical skills and personal integrity necessary to lead the already successful Cavemen program to even greater prominence,” he continued.

Hasseman comes to MHS after enjoying success as an assistant coach on the collegiate level. Hasseman has served as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State University (2010-2012), where he worked under the tutelage of legendary Olympic wrestler Coach John Smith, and at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania (2005). In addition, Hasseman has himself traveled the globe, competing against the stiffest competition the sport of wrestling has to offer. Among his many accomplishments, Hasseman was an Indiana individual state champion (2000), as well as an NCAA Eastern League Champion and individual National Championship qualifier (2005). From 2004-2011, Hasseman trained at the University of Iowa and the United States Olympic Training Center. While earning a spot on Team USA (2009-2010), Hasseman accumulated honors both nationally and internationally, including championships at the prestigious Dan Kolov International Tournament (2009) and the Dave Schultz Memorial International Tournament (2009).

“I am honored to have been asked to become the head wrestling coach in a tradition-rich program like Mishawaka,” said Hasseman. “While I have always loved competing as a wrestler, my true passion is to help young wrestlers achieve their potential.” “I am very confident that the Cavemen wrestling program can win championships at both the state and national level,” Hasseman added. “I also agree with the school administration that as important as it is for me to help my athletes become championship level wrestlers, it is even more important for me to help them become championship level human beings,” he concluded.

The next meeting of the Board of School Trustees for the School City of Mishawaka will take place on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the Administrative Center, 1402 South Main Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544. It is anticipated that the SCM Board of School Trustees will approve Superintendent Barker’s recommendation to hire Hasseman on that date and at that time.

Please contact Superintendent Barker (254-4537) or MHS Athletic Director Jim Aldrich (254-7332) with additional questions.
