EDMOND, Okla.- In the first edition of the NCAA Division Wrestling Coaches Association poll of the 2014-15 season, UIndy wrestling is receiving votes as a team, while brothers Josh Kieffer and Justin Kieffer both earned individual rankings in their respective weight classes.
Josh Kieffer earned the #5 spot at 125, returning down to the lightest weight class after wrestling at 133 a season ago. An All-American (6th) at 125 two seasons ago, Josh is a two-time national qualifier for the Greyhounds heading into his third season wrestling for Head Coach Jason Warthan.
Justin Kieffer is ranked #6 at 141, where he was the Super Region #2 champion a season ago. Also a two-time national qualifier for the Greyhounds, Justin will most likely redshirt this season.
As a team, UIndy is just outside the top 20, receiving votes in the preseason edition of the poll. The Greyhounds posted their best-ever NCAA Division II finish a season ago, taking eighth at the NCAA Division II National Championships behind four senior All-Americans in Alex Johns (125), Cameryn Brady (149), Jeff Weiss (165) and Evan Wooding (285). UIndy returns just three starters from a season ago, including both Kieffer brothers and 2014 national qualifier Shelden Struble.
Maryville topped the team rankings, followed by Ouachita Baptist, Nebraska-Kearney, Notre Dame (OH) and St. Cloud State.
The Greyhounds kick off the 2014-15 season officially Nov. 15 at the Trine Invitational, but will show off this year's team Saturday at their Intersquad/Alumni Roll Around. Wrestling begins at 2:00 p.m. in the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center on three mats.
