  1. I love our single class state tournament, it may be one of the coolest events in high school sports. I have become a fan of the idea of classing over the last couple of years because of the opinion that it will increase participation in smaller schools. Increasing exposure of our sport to more people. Eventually raising the level of wrestling in Indiana. It very well may be an easier path for small school wrestlers to make it to a 2 class state tournament. I can see that as more small school kids see that reaching state is a possibility that these kids will put in more offseason work to be one of the wrestlers to earn one of these spots. It will create more competition for these spots as time goes on. Increasing the difficulty of reaching state in the smaller class. There are also more state births available at the same time in the larger class. Giving more kids the opportunity to be a state qualifier, the level of difficulty will increase as our level of wrestling increases. That is why I am for class wrestling...
  2. Irishman, is it about the matches YOU get to see at the state tournament then? Or is it the possibility of growing the sport, thus increasing the level of wrestling Indiana more important?
  3. IF we went with 2 classes for the individual tournament, would we keep 3 classes for the dual tournament? It seems odd to have different classes for individual/team.
  4. Call an Iowa or Pennsylvania or many other small class state champions and ask them if their state championship means less to them because they didn't get to be the ONLY state champ at their weight class.
  5. I love a good class wrestling debate! I'm solidly on the classed side of the fence this time.
  6. @ fanatic46401... There could be more schools with pictures of wrestlers on their walls in the schools, inspiring more kids to work hard to become a state qualifier.
  7. Just how big of a feller are ya?
  8. Convenient for who? It's not like anyone is plotting to keep Oak Hill out of it.
  9. Can anyone give us a breakdown of what it would look like right now if we removed the teams with less than 5 wrestlers?
  10. Do the "All Star" & "Community" divisions on different dates. Kids that go to academies could compete for their school teams and the All Star teams.
  11. You can change your school affiliation. Go to your profile, hit the "Edit Profile" button. ba da boom, ba da bing.
  12. In East Central Indiana we have setup a league, we call it the Rival League. We have Friday night League nights. It is really setup for beginners to get a lot of mat time. We have generally 4 surfaces, we put pre-k through 1st grade on a mat, 2nd-3rd on one, 4th-5th on another. We basically use coaches and parents to match kids up on the fly so they can get matched up with like experience. We have had kids get anywhere from 1-6 matches in a night. They can almost get as many as they want in some cases. The member clubs take turns hosting it. We all charge $1 for anyone that walks through the door wrestlers, parents, coaches or we do $5 for a family if it is greater than 5 people. Under school age get in free. Depending on where the event is located we have had clubs that aren't necessarily League members bring kids to get matches. Coaches write their grade and actual weight on their hands. I know there is another league similar to this closer to the Indy area called the Pioneer League. Contact me if interested woody1071@gmail.com
  13. Watch this then go to camps/clinics page for more info to get into our clinic with Jake. http://www.flowrestling.org/coverage/251653-Jake-Herbert-BASE-Wrestling-Camp/video/748508-Herbert-Sees-Immediate-Growth-With-His-Campers#.U8HkjRnD_qB
  14. They told me that they would not waive late fees at this late date.
  15. I'd be willing to late register as a Veteran for Greco. I'd have to go 187.25. Maybe they would give us a deal and not make us pay the late fee?
  16. I think this is a better link to register. https://www.nuwaymembership.com/tournament-info/2264/
  17. Elementary ECIC (East Central Indiana Classic) Wrestling Tournament Sunday, December 28th 2014 at Jay County High School, 9:00am. - We will weigh-in using ISWA Elementary Dual weights and procedures. Blocking off the tenths/lb. -12 Teams with a max of two entries per team per weight class. - The top placer for each team in each weight class will be the scored wrestler. - We will use TrackWrestling for this tournament. - $200 per team entry fee. - Awards for 1st – 6th place. - Team Championship Trophy - $3 Spectator admission. We would like to get commitments wrapped up as soon as possible. This is a unique tournament opportunity for elementary kids to experience. We are going to run it to resemble a high school tourney as much as possible. We may grow it to 16 teams in the future if there is interest. If you have any questions, email James Myers at jmyers@jayschools.k12.in.us or Bruce Wood at woody1071@gmail.com.
  18. Maybe we should think about having wrestlebacks? (Just so there is no confusion, this was typed with a slight hint if sarcasm. Sometimes people don't pick up on it.) ← and that was an inside joke for a couple of teacher/coaches/friends that I know;-)
  19. I was on ISWA.com today looking at the event schedule and when I printed it, it prints as web page format. I thought it would be handy to have a printable version that would just print it on one page. There isn't one available on the site so I made one real quick. I made it available on my Google Drive. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8BPoPuJ_4khNmFVVlRyTy02VG8/edit?usp=sharing
  20. That would be sweeeeeeeeet if he did!
  21. I'd agree with Mattyb. Donate the mats to a club or clubs. Sell the rack and winch. Wrestling clubs need all the help they can get!
