  2. We are looking for a 40' x 60' wrestling mat for an outreach Gym that will be hosted at The Refuge in Greenwood. Please contact. Michael Garrison 317-727-2763
  3. This would have had to been some time ago because this trade was not on the table during my four years as an officer. Cale Hoover
  4. Thank you to everyone who pitched in the past weekend at Center Grove. We had a busy weekend but everything smoothly all weekend. We ended up having 360 competitors participate with the last match being completed just before 1:00. Thank you to all once again. Cale Hoover Head Coach Center Grove High School
  5. Chad and Joe, It is easy to take shots at me on here. I have never done that to you and will not now. Anytime you want to discuss face to face feel free to let me know. You both know I am not hiding and am willing to talk to anyone in regards to the sport of wrestling. I have no problem being held to a higher standard and hold everyone in my program to a higher standard than any of you have set for Center Grove Wrestling. I did not say my coaches were innocent. However, what they have been accused of is not accurate and they could have handled things better. It is my job to make sure that happens. I have a problem with posters going after kids and moderators who allow it to happen. All I have said is that they did not instigate the situation on Friday night at state finals and Joe's claim of of them drinking before the seeding meeting at Mishawaka was not accurate. I have handled both situations with my coaches in hopes that all of us handle situations better in the future. I will defend anyone and everyone in my program when I believe they are not being accurately portrayed. I learned a long time ago I would not make everyone happy so do not expect me to lose any sleep based on your opinions of me. I am sure there are many who dislike me and some might even have good reason. All I know is I try to treat everyone with respect and dignity and work to be a the best person I can be. I will be the first to admit that I am not without my flaws. When I ran for IHSWCA President I knew I was putting myself out their for criticism. Like all officers of our association I often put the sport of wrestling and others in front of my own program. I was honored to serve and grateful that other coaches thought enough of me to elect me despite my relative young age and limited experience. You both have been very critical of those who have volunteered to serve, I hope both of you will consider to run for one of the offices and continue to make improvements to the organization. You are both entitled to your opinions and can run your website anyway you choose. I will admit to disagree with both of you on a great many things. For one, I do not often agree with what you post and what you allow to be posted on this website. By the way Joe, I did address both situations. I just chose to do it in private with my coaches and school administration. We just chose not to do it in public or on this website. As the leader of Center Grove wrestling I am responsible for the actions of everyone involved. I will continue with my philosophy of praising in public and criticizing in private. Any discipline of my coaching staff is quite honestly none of your business. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
  6. I may not be much, but I am honest. I am proud of every member of our team and coaching staff at Center Grove. We have had a fun, enjoyable year. Congratulations to our state qualifiers Brock Warner and Drew Ponder. Congratulations to state medal winner Anthony Shoettle. A big congratulations to Sean Mappes the 17o pound state champion. Not a single person in our program is perfect, but we do stick together, support one another, and work to do our best everyday. I am honored to be your coach.
  7. I am most disturbed about the things you have said regarding one of my student-athletes. Feel free to come after me, but your criticisms have no validity to me because of the way you are handling yourself and what you are typing on this board. I care very much what many people have to say about my program. I am not sure that you have an opinion that I should value at this point. It does not take much courage to go on a message board and criticize a young person while refusing to sign your name to a post. The young man in question has done nothing to deserve the criticism, hate, and, anger you are directing at him. I would appreciate you leaving him out of any discussion. He is a very good young man who has worked very hard and earned his success just as all the other young men this weekend. I was there on Friday night and know what happened. You obviously were not. I am not sure why you think my coaches would be upset and say something after a match was won. We were speaking with our wrestler when the opposing coach felt compelled to speak directly to my student-athete. You better believe we will stick up for our guys especially after what was said. In regards to criticism by Joe Caprino, moderator of this board, he was not at the Al Smith seeding meeting but feels compelled to make comments on the board but will not address it with me personally. He sees me on numerous occasions around the state, has my email address, and has my phone number. Feel free to contact me any time. It shows a great deal more character to have a face to face discussion than it does to say things about people on a message board. Cale Hoover Head Coach Center Grove High School
  8. I attempt to not respond to comments made on this board for many reasons. However, I am not going to in this case due to the false accusations being made. First, my assistant coach responded after our student-athlete and wrestler were spoken to directly by the assistant coach of the opposing school. I did step between them and the situation was quickly diffused. I understand their disappointment and we were certainly not pleased with the way the match ended. My coaching staff initiated none of the events that transpired as we all exited the competition area. I can also say that none of my coaches used any profanity during the situation as I was standing between all involved. Sometimes things happen or are said during competition that are unfortunate, but I wish everyone would remember we are all working with 14-18 year old kids. They are not always going to do things as we would like. Unfortunately the adults involved in our sport do not as well. It has become common for the moderators of this site to criticize the Center Grove program because of disagreements they have had with me in the past. They are more than welcome to continue doing so as they are entitled to their opinions. I am very comfortable with the mission and vision of our program and what everyone is trying to do. I think the people who know me have an understanding of what I stand for and how I want the Center Grove program to be run. I will be the first to admit that we are not perfect, but we are all working to do things the right way and in the best interests of our kids. Congratulations to all involved with this past weekend and please come to Center Grove next Saturday and take in the last IHSAA Team State Dual Championship.

  10. We have Perry Meridian on our schedule because we want to compete against the best. If you check the rest of our schedule you will see that we wrestle top competition week in and week out. If we didn't want our best to wrestle we would not have scheduled the meet. I simply ask you get accurate information before you spout off questioning the integrity of our program. For your information we are dealing with several issues including illness, hopefully just minor injuries, and the deep run our football team made. We will get our guys back in the line up as soon as they are ready. Cale Hoover Head Coach Center Grove HS
  11. Personally, I think we risk the snow the first week of January. There are a lot of county tournaments that Saturday before Christmas. Asking people to move these could be a deal breaker for the team dual tournament.
  12. I would jsut like to remind everyone that no matter when this tournament is potentially held, it will conflict with currently scheduled tournaments. If schools want to participate they will have to make a choice of what is best for their program.
  13. It is May 5th. Many members have joined since then.
  14. Joe, If you are going to use statistics regarding IHSWCA membership you should get them correct. You certainly have the right to an opinion, but I will not let false claims and numbers go by. The IHSWCA has easily had more than 50% of its head coaches as members for many years now. Membership is not where we would like it to be and people have been working to improve that. False statistics being placed on this message board does not help the cause. Cale Hoover
  15. I know the IHSWCA would certainly like to get all of the best teams involved, but this is not a lock to happen. Also, teams could certainly claim to be the state champs, however, the IHSAA record book would say otherwise. I believe this event could grow into something tremendous, however it will be depend on the best teams all being willing to participate.
  16. Would people consider the winner of this tournament the state champion? I would think most would still look to the tournament sponsered by the IHSAA.
  17. Jeremy VanAlstyne won his state championship as a senior in 2002. He qualified for state as a junior in 2001.
  18. The IHSWCA would probably take that into consideration if you would like.
  19. As the former President I think it is very reasonable to require coaches to be IHSWCA members in order to be a part of the proposed tournament. If you do not want to join you do not have to participate. Each coach has the freedom to do what they feel is in the best interest of their program
  20. Joe, Read my update and you will see the IHSAA has endorsed the coaches association to do this. Mr. Cox and Mr. Faulkens have both given their consent and even encouraged it. The situation is very different from the one you cite and the IHSAA has made it very clear on what we can and cannot do. The only stipulation is the event must be held prior to the begining of the IHSAA state tournament series.
  21. 4/25/2011 Wrestling Community: I hope all of you are enjoying your wet spring weather around the state. Club season is in full gear with the state tournament series just around the corner. This will be my last update to you as Trent McCormick took over the reigns as president this past Friday at the Spring Clinic. Our proposal meeting took place in March. We decided to take a similar approach to that of two years ago and present a list of concerns for the IHSAA?s consideration. They included: 1. Team state changes (including classing, timing, and structure) 2. Expansion of the sectional entry list 3. Improvements to the weight management program (specifically the usability of the NWCA?s software) The discussion on team state became very heated. It was very evident it was not a favorite of several IHSAA board members. We discussed our ideas for improvements and attempted to defend the tournament as best as we could. Their major complaint is still the fact that numerous teams have not fielded their best team at the event. After the meeting we requested a meeting with Asst. Commissioner Faulkens who agreed. We met with Mr. Faulkens two weeks ago and he was very straight forward. It was clear that he is a fan of the team tournament. However, he was straight-forward and honest with us. The team tournament will no longer exist after the 2011-12 season. Mr. Faulkens recommended that the team tournament be taken over by the IHSWCA. We were disappointed to hear this news; however, appreciative that we now know what must be done. Many discussions and decisions regarding a possible IHSWCA team state tournament have to be held. What I can tell you is that something will be put together and teams will be competing for the title by 2012-13. How this tournament will be structured is a long way from being decided. It will need to be held during the regular season as by-laws would not allow it to be held on its current date. Points two and three were taken into consideration and we can expect to see the following changes in the future. The sectional entry list should be expanded to forty-two slots up from twenty-eight. Also, expect to see the IHSAA unveil their weight management software by the 2012-13 season at the latest. It may even be ready for this season. The software will be Excel based and sheet is much easier for coaches to use. It has been an honor to serve as your president. I wish President McCormick and newly elected Vice-President Danny Struck and Secretary-Treasurer Trent Staggs the good luck. Best wishes to all. 22. Weather has certainly made things complicated for many of you to complete your academic all-state nominations. Please complete as much of the form as possible. Once you get the transcripts send them our way.
  23. This year Academic All-State has been expanded to include Juniors. Requirements: 1. Minimum of a 3.25 GPA 2. Must advance to the Individual Regional 3. Coach must be a member of the IHSWCA
  24. 1/25/11 Wrestling Community: I first apologize for the extended time since my last update. I found myself battling poor health for the past month and have returned to my teaching and coaching duties just last week. This is of course an exciting time of year that all of us in the wrestling community wait for with anticipation each season. I want to wish all coaches and student-athletes the best of luck as they kick off the state tournament series on Saturday. Coaches: remember your Academic All-State nominations will be due following sectional on Saturday. We are in the process of updating our website so we can move the application process to an electronic format. We hope this makes the process quicker and easier. Also, we will be honoring Junior?s as well this year in attempt to help them with the college recruiting process. Several college coaches have encouraged this move and we are excited about the addition. We are currently working on getting surveys completed by each head coach in the state. We have cleared the 200 mark which leaves approximately 100 to go. The survey results will be critical in determining the future direction of the association. Presently the majority of coaches favor a classed team state format while leaving the individual tournament in the current single class format. At this time I would like to announce the IHSWCA will be sponsoring a clinic on February, 25th at Center Grove HS prior to the Team State Finals. More details to come, however, I can tell you Ed Pendoski of CIA has committed to being the clinician at the event. A ticket to the team state finals will be included in the price of attending the clinic as we hope to have a packed house at Center Grove this year. Best wishes to all. 25. I wanted to touch base to see if I could enlist your help in spreading the word about the addition of Division III NCAA wrestling at Alma College in Alma, Michigan. We just announced the sports addition for the 2011-12 school year, and are close to having a head coach named. We are very excited to add the sport again to our campus--we won conference titles 3 of the last 4 years we had wrestling in the mid-80's--and are happy to be able to offer some more athletes the chance to continue the sport they love after high school.
