  1. This is a very touchy subject i guess. As a wrestler in high school and a short college career at MSU, I made it a point to shake my opponents and coaches hand. I was taught by my dad and my coaches. In college our coaches never said anything about shaking hands but I felt like I needed to do it. Also as I watched some of the greatest wrestlers on tv, they have done the same. I do not know where this process came from honestly but I believe its a great tradition that should be followed and I do believe its a true sign of respect. Now as for CP shaking hands, that does not bother me. We dueled them towards the end of the season and they gave our wrestlers and coaches fist pounds. I felt there was no sign of disrespect at all. I think they are just trying to show total domination. Look back at Alex Tsirtsis, he never shook any ones hands. No disrespect to Alex, but I felt he did it to show total domination. Granted Alex was a four time undefeated state champ so I guess time will tell if CP earns that respect. Great job to CP at state and good luck to all at team state!
  2. Wrestle backs at the semi-state or state level would be a great start.
  3. Wrestle backs on regionals, semi-state, and state! Every tourney should be seeded so they all have an equal opportunity to make it to state or place. Sectionals is a little different in my opinion because the ihsaa is trying to find a sectional team champion. So sectionals should be seeded without wrestle backs because there are a ton of forfeits and byes. We wrestle a whole season to get a good seed for the sectionals. Wrestlers that make it to the semifinals go to regionals, and it should be scored as such for the team champions. Now as for the kids that could not wrestle because of grades or injuries. I think that is the luck of the draw. Not going 38-6 on the season and drawing an undefeated wrestler in a ticket round to state. For example, in little Jared Brooks case when he drew Zack Stevens in the ticket round. The issue with class wrestling should never be brought up in the state of Indiana. We are the few among many that have a true state champion in each weight class. Now the only thing we have to do is create wrestle backs to keep those wrestlers that still have a legitimate chance of making it to state.
  4. I gotta go with Kyle Ayersman being his coach and all. Glad to have him aboard our team. He'll get Lake Central back on the map for the next four yrs. Also, he will help with our teams confidence and attitude. He's a great kid. Good Luck Kyle!
  5. Andy Trevino infamous coaching move is the underhook highcrotch. I dont know if that counts for something. lol
  6. I agree XCard. The problem is I don't belive I have ever seen this rule enforced. As a coach I usually try not to get worked up with the official unless it is a call that truly merits questioning. The problem comes when your sitting across the mat from coaches, similar to those mentioned above, who question and complain every single call that does not go their way. The referee allows this to continue and you end up feeling you have to start playing the same game just to get a fair shake. There is an easy soultion to preventing these circus like atmospheres, that is enforce the rules! If you get up and question a call, and your wrong, WARNING. Do it a second time, TEAM POINT! No exceptions. If all officials enforced this rule reguarly I think this would deter some coaches from arguing even the simplest calls in an attempt to manipulate the officials. Thank you XCard. Some refs do enforce the warning then conduct pt. Just not all of them. The refs that don't may need more classes? dunno... How much education is the ISHAA giving these guys? Are they just giving them one test that is open book, pass with a 75%, and your certified as an official?
  7. I had to jump on this topic, being a victim to a team pt deduction at sectionals. A coach has to argue every call that's in a weird situation or a bad call. That's being a coach. Also, as a coach you try to get away with as much as possible until they warn you or say something about it. Obviously, the refs were not concerned with Vlink or Rodriguez getting too close to the mat. You also have to realize what position the refs are in to. That was team regionals with three big teams fighting for a spot down state. Every call counts, that's a ton of pressure. Can you do it? The only time I believe you can blow up on a ref is when the ref makes bad call and doesn't want to discuss the call with you. That is against the rules and is a very arrogant thing to do. The coach has every right to blow up! But back to your point, I guess it's up to the referees discretion when you cross the line. A warning first, then misconduct call.
  8. I could see that. I second that
  9. From what i saw at the DAC tourney, Napules didnt do anything. Maybe you should of never beat up on him so much and he would of learned his mistakes. Its not about getting to know kids to figure out how someone wrestles. When you see Napules wrestle he is very agressive and gets after his opponent. He is a very good wrestler to watch. There are kids that can be great in wrestling practice but when it comes to wrestling day and the pressure is on, they fold. Napules obviously was not mentally prepared for the match, and I believe he folded bc it was #2 ranked Tsirsis. No wrestler of that caliber should be beat up that bad and pinned. Unless you get caught on your back, but that was not the case. I saw what i saw, and that is my honest opinion. How about not practicing that whole week before the D.A.C. with a banged up knee from the weekend before? Could that play a factor? Did he use that excuse? Nope, and I'm not trying to use it either, just make sure you know the whole story behind things before you start assuming he was scared or he folded because a kid is ranked or whatever the case maybe. Losses happen all the time, and some are worse than others. It kind of makes you look like an idiot when you think you know why something happened the way it did. Its not like our sport is televised or something, or kids get a interview before the match where they can give excuses. your right on midget5589! I know exactly what im talking about. I saw what i saw, and it didnt look like Napules. I know it got to him mentally one way or another. Another thing, what about not practicing a whole week b4 competition? what does that got to with anything? a wrestler does not fall out of shape in a week. as for a knee injury, ask Dan Gable, he wrestled with a torn acl, and so have other injured wrestlers.

  12. I watched tsirtsis at the DAC tournament and he destroyed napules. napules was scared if you want my opinion. It wasnt even a close match. tsirtsis wins. I got CP winning this match up.
  13. What we should do is eliminate sectionals all together! only have regionals, semi-state, and state or some format like illinois. then we would eliminate a lot of these forfeits and wrestlers that qualify to regionals with one or two wins on the season.
