  1. this is off topic, but its close to the top: Why didnt Price wrestle at IPSAC? I assume he didnt, as he was still listed as undefeated going into sectionals.
  2. Another good sublime song, In the End. How about some David Allan Coe? Cold by Crossfade Cumbersome or Waters Edge by Seven Mary Three 45 by Shinedown Linoleum by NOFX (for all you punkers) Today was a good day by Ice Cube
  3. How about Matt Jaggers, New Castle VS Erik Johnson, Yorktown. they only wrestled eachother during the Ytown-NC Duals, and semi State. Every match was a nail biter. I believe the last match they wrestled, Johnson lead 2-1 throughout the whole match, and jaggers won with a Takedown in the last 20-30 seconds.
  4. sorry to disappoint you with my opinion

  10. Eyeing title: Scott Runyan stands beside his son Briar, a senior at Martinsville who is 32-0 with 29 pins and ranked No. 1 in the state at 160 pounds heading into today's Mooresville Wrestling Regional. Scott, a sergeant in the National Guard, is expected to leave Feb. 25 for a mission to Afghanistan that could last through December Dad to see son wrestle final time this season before Guard duty By Steve Brooks / Star correspondent February 7, 2009 A One of Martinsville wrestler Briar Runyan's biggest fans will likely watch him wrestle in a high school meet for the final time today. And both Runyan and the fan -- Briar's father Scott -- are OK with that. Scott Runyan, a sergeant in the National Guard, is expected to deploy Feb. 25 for a mission to Afghanistan that could last through December. In the meantime, he is considered Title 10 -- "the regular Army has a hold of me," Scott said -- and is serving out of Camp Atterbury. He can only leave camp with a pass, and this weekend will likely be the last pass Scott gets before he leaves the country. He already has missed most of his son's senior season since being stationed at Camp Atterbury in November. Briar -- 32-0 with 29 pins and ranked first in the state at 160 pounds -- hopes to have a postseason run that could conclude with a spot in the state championship. The next step in that journey is today's Mooresville Regional. "I knew before the season that he was going to miss most of my season because of this," said Briar, who has a 96-10 career record, including a third-place state finals finish at 152 pounds as a sophomore and a runner-up finish at the same weight last season. "It's a little bit tough, but for as long as I can remember, he's been in the military. I deal with it as it goes. Now I really want to win it all just for him." Scott has been in the National Guard for 16 years and also works as a full-time technician for the Department of Defense. In his spare time, he runs a wrestling club and has helped coach Briar since his son was 4 years old. "This is something that Briar's worked for his whole life," Scott said. "He's definitely put in the effort to be a state champion. It's tough not getting to watch him, but my wife has been videotaping his matches, and I've gotten to watch them that way. "And this mission (to Afghanistan) is a feel-good mission. It's an agricultural development team, and we're going to interact with the people there and show them how to correctly raise crops. It's a good mission." Next year, Briar plans to attend the United States Military Academy Preparatory School for a season and wrestle while he's there, before moving on to West Point. While Scott will miss watching and working with his son, he thinks Briar's wrestling will be fine without his presence the rest of the tournament. "He's at a level where he doesn't really need anyone but himself right now," Scott said. "And with (Martinsville coach) Leigh Liden, he's got a pretty good coach in his corner. I think Briar understands he's more than capable of winning a state title." This one hits home for me. I just got back from my 2nd, leave for my 3rd round in july.

  14. HAHAH Johnny I remember that. I felt so bad for you.
  15. Campbell out for wrestling regional New Castle's wrestling team will be without an undefeated wrestler when it travels to Seymour for the wrestling regional. Freshman Brenden Campbell went through surgery to remove his appendix Wednesday morning, according to New Castle coach Rex Peckinpaugh. Campbell was entering today's regional against Indianapolis Roncalli with a 42-0 record and was ranked No. 1 in the state at 103 pounds. "It's a little disappointing because we felt like he could have had a great end of the year," Peckinpaugh said. The freshman should make a full recovery for next season. Peckinpaugh said he talked with Campbell at lunch on Wednesday. Peckinpaugh said Campbell would probably be out of the hospital today and wouldn't make the trip to Seymour with his teammates. Campbell is expected to make a full recovery in two to four weeks and could be working out for next season in five or six weeks. "It's a disappointment for me for him, but it would have been awful if he would have been a senior," Peckinpaugh said. Backup 103-pound wrestler, Austin Roberts, is expected to replace Campbell today against Indianapolis Roncalli. Roberts has 10 wins this season. "He's a good wrestler, but he's going to wrestle some good wrestlers," Peckinpaugh said. With a healthy Campbell in the lineup, Peckinpaugh said his Trojans were the favorite, but he still thinks his team can advance. "There is very little margin for error," Peckinpaugh said.
  16. agreed, 112 is a swing weight, but i think 119 is a bigger swing than 103.
  17. so what happened in the Mullins-Stewart finals match...? Peck, Jerry? ANyone?
  18. Tourney begins: New Castle is heavily favored to win the team championship Jeremy Hines Sports Editor New Castle enters today's wrestling sectional at Shenandoah as a heavy favorite to win the team title. But the individual wrestling throughout the day should provide a lot of drama. "They will be reporting my death if we don't win," New Castle coach Rex Peckinpaugh said. "Because of the number of seeds we have and that we fill all weight classes, we should certainly win." There is the potential for several big showdowns featuring local wrestlers. Brenden Campbell is the most dominant wrestler at 103 pounds, and shouldn't be challenged much during the day. Campbell is ranked No. 1 in the state in that weight class and he currently has a 39-0 record as a freshman. Shenandoah's Jake Dodd has the second best record in that class at 20-9. If things go according to the seeding, the 112-pound final could pit New Castle freshman Connor Mullins up against Rushville's Cody Stewart. Mullins (39-1) is ranked third in the state and Stewart (25-2) comes in ranked No. 8. Mullins is the No. 1 seed and Stewart is second. New Castle and Rushville wrestled during the regular season but Mullins and Stewart did not face each other. Instead Campbell wrestled up a weight class and pinned Stewart. The 119-pound weight class is full of talented area grapplers. Ryan Leeka (32-0) of Tri is the top seed, but Shenandoah's Tyler Sink (17-9) and New Castle's Alex Catron (35-3) both hope to contend for the championship. Leeka and Catron, the top two seeds, have not faced each other. "Ryan Leeka is having a great year," Peckinpaugh said. "He certainly wants to win just as bad as we do. That should be great competition." Tri coach Jerry Ingalls is excited just to watch that potential matchup. "That could be a real good battle," Ingalls said. "Those are two veteran kids that have been wrestling for a long time. They both have a lot of experience. Whoever brings it will win that match. Who has done the most on their own time, with school being out, and stayed focused will end up winning." Shenandoah's Zach Williams is the top seed at 125 pounds. Williams is 12-3 this season. New Castle's R.J. Fellers (17-8, No. 2 seed) and Tri's Robbie Parish (24-8) are also serious contenders in the weight class. New Castle's Cody Fellers is the top wrestler at 130 pounds. Fellers is 39-2. The only wrestler with a record even close to Fellers is Rushville's Joe Hunter (22-5). All of the local wrestling coaches agree that the most interesting weight class will be the 135-pound class. Centerville's Keifer Uphaus (32-2) is the top seed but Tri's Tyler Leeka (27-5), Shenandoah's Eric Krathwohl (17-9), New Castle's Levi Rose (29-9), Rushville's Collin Hillen (24-2) and Richmond's Adam Smith (24-7) are all very capable of taking the sectional championship. "That weight class is the most competitive one in the sectional," Peckinpaugh said. The top two wrestlers at 140 pounds are Rushville's No. 1-seeded Keith Duncan (24-3) and New Castle's Dustin Slover (31-8). The 145-pound class could be a revenge match for New Castle's Dusty Bennett. Bennett (25-8), the No. 2 seed, could see top-seeded Kevin Fox (21-6) in the final. Fox defeated Bennett in overtime in the North Central Conference meet last week. New Castle's Zach Marcum (29-6) is the top seed at 152 pounds. Northeastern's Cody Becker (29-6) is seeded second. One of the best area showdowns could come in the 160-pound final. New Castle's Von Wasson (38-3) is the top seed with Shenandoah's Luke Hamm (27-2) seeded second. "Wasson and Hamm could be a great match," Peckinpaugh said. "They are both excellent young men who are very athletic and determined." Rushville has the top seed at 171-pounds, but Knightstown's No. 2 seed Jordan Howard (25-7), New Castle's Ryan Allee (14-8) and Shenandoah's James Bowling (17-10) are all hoping for the upset. New Castle's Matt Cole (15-8) is the No. 1 seed at 215 pounds. There could be another great showdown between New Castle and Shenandoah in the heavyweight final. Shenandoah's Sam Poole is the top seed, entering with a 26-3 record. New Castle's Dimitrios Alafogianis is an NCC champion, the No. 2 seed and has a 32-3 record. "I haven't watched Dimitrios wrestled this year, but Sam had to wrestle his brother Eli three or four times and Eli always came out on top, but they were always close matches," Shenandoah coach Scott Widner said. The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to regional.
