  1. Al Morgan, long time Franklin Central and Warren Central head coach has passed away after a brief bought with lung cancer. Arrangements are being made in Arizona where he was living during the winter months.
  2. 2011-112 was nice! May be others but 2002-119# also had 4 state champs in the final 4 when only 2 mats were going. Matt Coughlin takes out John Sheets in overtime, Clint Palmore downs Graylan Early 4-3. With the EMD and Belmont crowds in their heyday the place was loud and rockin. Sheets-2000, Early-2003, Coughlin-2004&2005, Palmore wins it.
  3. 1967 154 Mickey Janes, Anderson-James Blackwell, Shortridge. Janes was 145 State Champ in 65 and 145 runnerup in 66. Blackwell was 154 State Champ in 66. Janes intentionally bumps up to 154 to potentionaly meet Blackwell at the finals in 67. The bracketing works out and James takes it 4-3. On a side note Janes had only one good eye. Blackwells Shortridge team takes the state championship.
  4. Lucky enough to see both these matches. Have to go with Birge-Bradbury, outstanding effort, obviously by both. Points just coming from every where! Remember Birge taking it like a champion and class.
  5. They are very, very young, and trying to rebuild. As mentioned mostly all freshman this year from a good middle school team last year. They all took their lumps this year but all hung in there. Have also heard some more good 8th graders coming out next year. 2002 119 state champ, Clint Palmore and 2007 119 state champ, Matt Fields have come on board last year and this year as assistant coaches. Hope to get it turned around.
  6. Actually 9 titles from that year 103 finals, Petrov and Brooks weren't there. Still impressive!
  7. This class is always loaded! compare 2002 finals to those previously mentioned: Clint Palmore - Whiteland 1 6, 1 Matt Coughlin - Mater Dei 2 2,2,1,1 John Sheets - Belmont 3 1,3,3,3 Graylon Early - FW North 4 2,4,1 Ian Barclay - LaPorte 5 5,8,5 David Persin - Portage 6 6 Matt Jaggers - New Castle 7 5,7,2 Scott Zimmerman - Plainfield 8 8 Blane Culp - Columbia City DNP SQ, 5,3 Ted Bugby - Cathedral DNP SQ, 4 Tom Skinner - Goshen DNP SQ, 7 Steve Cico - Hammond Noll DNP SQ, SQ Cody Newlin - Fountain Central DNP SQ, SQ Brandon Sandefur - SB Riley DNP SQ Mike Cebada - Zionsville DNP SQ Jacob Eisterhold - North Posey DNP SQ 5 Finalist, 5 Champions, 2 4x Placers, 3 3x Placers 2 2x Placers 11 Placers of 16 Finalists
  8. This class is always one to watch year after year. Lots of good quality 103, 112, and returning 119 gang up here. Best of luck to everyone and whoever wins it will definitely have earned it.)
  9. In 2000 at 119 from the Evansville SS Wiley Craft, Roncalli-2nd, Dustin Nosko,EMD-3rd,Matt Howe, Greenwood-4th, Chris Bailey, Vincennes-5th. Bailey was defeated in the quaters by eventual State champ Bobby Howard. Not to bad!
  10. The year was 2002 and it was at 125. Hector was somewhat overlooked, but this could not be unexpected because of the people that had beaten him from the region. He was runnerup the year before at 119 losing in the finals to T-shirts for maybe the third or fourth time that year. He really turned it on when he got to the state finals. Clint Palmore, Whiteland was the 119 Champ that year beating 2003 Champ Graylan Early in the semis and handing Matt Coughlin 1 of his 2 HS losses under the lights. The other half of Whitelands dynamic duo that year Chris Cooper, mentioned on here, took care of 160 with a somewhat overlooked effort. Two men entered-2 Champs
