  1. I will take a shot at it. 106 - Wilhelm 113- Holmes 120 - Stansberry 126- Chastain 132- Eldred, Evan 138- Eldred, Dillon 145- Lile 152- Steele 160- Krege 170- Mccloskey 182- Miller 195- Aven 220- Brantley 285- Maxey
  2. That is why I asked about parents taking the responsibility for travel. I know that if they are holing our section. I will make sure my son is there.
  3. This brings up a good point. Lets say a school systems decides not to travel. If a kid shows-up on his own. Will he be able to compete?
  4. I have 4 wheel drive. I can take 4 wrestlers.
  5. Do you like wrestling in a big tournament the weekend before sectionals? If so why? This is a true question. Not me making a statement.
  6. Our Conference tournament is 2 weeks before Sectionals. This seams to be the most logical time. The week right before Sectionals seems to be one of the worst. Without a backup weekend. Conference can get canceled. Also the State tournament is a grind. Seems like you would want that extra weekend to get healthy.
  7. I have to go with coach P on this one. Be careful what you wish for.
  8. I feel as if all 3 are top ten kids. You just never know how it will shake out. They will all be prepared when the time comes. I feel that wrestling each other on the way. Will help them when it comes to Semi-state and State.
  9. Anyone sleeping on Beldon could get burnt badly. He has probably wrested the hardest schedule of anyone at 126. In my mind he is a top 10 kid for sure!
  10. I can only go by what I have seen this year. And I will try and take out the fact that I am Jacks dad. So I will not comment on where Jack will finish. Here is how I see with Mantel, Moore and Beldon. If Mantal goes 126. Just based on previous match. Mantel would be 3rd. I put both Beldon and Moore above him. He will have to beat Beldon just to get to the finals in Sectionals. I think Beldon is to strong for Mantel. Moore did beat Beldon earlier this year. But this one is really close. They both have very similar styles. Just based on the fact that Moore has won the last few time. I would put Moore on top. I see Mantel going 120 anyway.
  11. I definitely feel the same way. I think it is really hard to adjust to the intensity of a high level wrestler unless you have experienced it.
  12. Last year my son only had 1 really good match before Semi-State and that was in December. I think that really hurt him at the end of the year. Do you guys think this is much of a factor?
  13. My son and I talk about identity a lot. I tell him and my daughters all the time. Their identity is not their sport. It is nothing more than something they do. It is something that they happen to be good at and enjoy. But that is where it ends. If your entire life is a sport. You are selling yourself short. Encourage your kids to be way more complicated that that!
  14. This only makes sense. There were tournaments this winter that guys got a 2 pound allowance because of the weather. No one thought anything about guys wresting their own weight the next week. If you followed the 1.5 per week. Guys would not be able to do that.
  15. What about the fact that sometimes someone else is just better in that position. I see this all the time with coaches. They think their system trumps the skill sets of the wrestler. I am one who thinks, great coaches adapt to the skill sets of the wrester. That does not mean you don't work your butt of to improve every position. It just means every match and every wrestler is different. If you work you butt off and get really good in all 3 positions and your opponent is only good in 2. Than you would be crazy not to make him wrestle in his weakest position.
  16. Remember this, If you choose bottom. You can score 1 or 2 points. If you choose top. You can score 2,3,4,5,6 or more. There was a match this weekend with two highly ranked wrestlers that had 0 points in the first. Second period the guy who chose down gave up 5 points. The third period the wrestler in the lead choose top and scored 5 more. Coaches who always choose bottom are either blind or stupid.
  17. There's only one who wears panties around here. And it's not us.
  18. Daddio I wonder sometimes if the parents who write comments like this have ever competed in the sport of wresting before. Most of the great wrestler I know are not the nicest people while wresting. I have seen best friends get in fights during practice. But off the mat they are polite and humble as can be. The funny thing is. Guys that have been there understand and guys that haven't don't.
  19. Wilson may be the best takedown guy in the State. James is as good as they come. This one is truly one that you just don't know how they will matchup. I start to say I would give the advantage to James. Then I change my mind and think Wilson will win. This will be one that is worth the price of admission!
  20. Lets say you always take bottom, like you say. What happens if your kid is clearly out classed on his feet. Now he gives up another takedown. How does that help him? You may only have one chance to be in the position that you have the advantage and you don't take it, because you always take bottom. Choosing top may be the only time your wrester get the top position. If that is the one position that your wrestler has the advantage and you don't take it. Don't be surprised when the outcome doesn't go your way. As far as taking top in collage. There are guys who are great on top, that take top all most every time.
  21. That really depends a lot on the individual match. I always say you should try to spend the most time in the match where you think you have the biggest advantage. If you have an advantage on your feet. Than take down. If your advantage is on top than take top. The key is to recognize ,quickly where you have the advantage. I feel like this should be the single most important part of coaching a match. Sometimes it not about wresting in your strongest position. It about exploiting his weakest.
  22. Really, then why have you posted it in 2 separate places?
  23. Why are you posting this statement wherever you can? What do you have to gain here? The way I understand it. Once you make scratch weight you can move up and down. You just can't drop more than 1.5 per week on your way to making scratch.
