  1. That is great news about an exceptional wrestler and a heck of a warrior. Brandon is a great young man and it will be a joy to see him wrestle for the Black/Old Gold. Congrats to the entire Nelson family - your time, efforts and dedication to Brandon have produced a fine young man. Good luck in this upcoming season. The Mascaro Family
  2. That's awesome. Congrats to Cashe and all the guys (and girls) for their performances at Fargo!
  3. The Intermat College 2009-2010 recruiting class rankings are out. Purdue took the 12th spot and IU 23rd. http://www.intermatwrestle.com/articles/5232 12. Purdue Top 100 Recruits: No. 55 Kendrick Sanders (South Dade, FL), No. 63 Camden Eppert (Anderson Highland, IN), No. 65 Cashe Quiroga (Lawrence North, IN) Other Ranked Recruit: Steve Sandefer (Mishawaka, IN), 16th at 140 Other Notable Recruits: Adam Walls (Beavercreek, OH), Alex White (Mt. Vernon, IN), Brice Grimes (Lawrence North, IN), Kyle Mosier (Yorktown, IN), Will Mascaro (Carmel, IN) Commentary: For Purdue, not exactly perceived as a Big Ten power, this recruiting class could be the start of the paradigm shift that Scott Hinkel is trying to achieve heading into his third year as head coach at his alma mater. The anchor of this class -- Sanders -- is a two-time Junior National Greco-Roman champion. Eppert, a Junior National All-American in freestyle, and Quiroga, a NHSCA Senior Nationals runner-up, are the type of lowerweight wrestlers that will be expected to step in as starters early in their careers. White, Grimes, Mosier, and Mascaro combined for a total of six losses during their senior seasons despite none of them winning state titles. 23. Indiana Top 100 Recruits: No. 46 Ryan LeBlanc (Morrisville Eaton, NY), No. 57 Max Ortega (Rio Rancho, NM) Other Notable Recruits: Justin Brooks (Warsaw, IN), Tanner Kriss (Colby, KS) Commentary: Both of the nationally-ranked recruits -- LeBlanc and Ortega -- earned All-American honors at the NHSCA Senior Nationals. Brooks was a Junior National All-American in freestyle this past summer, while Kriss completed his senior season of high school with a state title.
  4. Congratulations to Bryce and the Grimes family on your selection of a great school and a great program. We wish you the best of luck in both your academic and wrestling efforts. This is another exceptional young man joining a great team that has a lot of potential. We look forward to seeing you wrestle and contribute to a winning team over the next couple of years. The Mascaro Family
  5. Pat Parham, James Frascella, Will Mascaro, Curtis Anderson, Grant Scurria - Carmel
  6. Thank you for the well wishes. I will pass your message on to Jim. He is an exceptional guy and has added a lot to Carmel's program. We have been very fortunate to have picked up several experienced, enthusiastic coaches who are doing some great things with the kids. They have a sophomore (soon to be junior) class that is an amazing group of talented guys that just keeps getting better every day.
  7. Congrats Alex and the White family. Looking forward to watching you wrestle over the next couple of years. The Mascaro Family
  8. Congrats to Will! Being from Missouri, I guess I'm a little biased towards the Tigers, but Purdue is a shorter drive! Have a great season. Westerncat - Columbia is a great college town and the campus was beautiful. Mizzou did a heck of a job of recruiting and has a very impressive program and I am sure Will would have done well there, but we are delighted he is heading to Purdue - an yes the shoter drive is an important factor (at least for my wife and I). Thanks AJ for the well wishes.
  9. Steven and the Sandefer family; That is awesome news. Glad things worked out so quickly. You, Will and the guys should have a blast up there. See you on move in day. The Mascaros
  10. Thanks allyour base. We are confident things will get done!
  11. Thanks for the congrats. Will is planning on studying biochemistry or biology (premed). Purdue is very strong in both. Tough majors to combine with wrestling, but he has a good mind and they have great resources that will be available to him.
  12. We are pleased to announce that Will Mascaro will be wrestling for the Boilermakers next year. After a very long and thorough process, Will narrowed his choices down to 3 schools (Purdue, University of Missouri, and Coe College) and chose Purdue for its academics, wrestling team, great coaching staff and the opportunity to remain in Indiana where he has many friends and family. We are appreciative of all the effort his High School, Team Indiana and Club coaches have put into helping him do what he loves to do throughout his HS career and preparing him for the next level. There are a great group of young men at and heading to West Lafayette who will be working their tails off to make things happen; so the next few years should prove to be very promising for Purdue Wrestling. All the Best! See you all in the stands. Mindy and Guy Mascaro
  13. Robles just beat Sanders (Minn) 19 to 10

  15. It was a great day for all of the wrestlers. They each fought hard and made some wrestling magic happen on a beautiful Sunday. I believe I have the correct scores per match, but I could be off by which IN wrestler lost by maj dec (sorry I watched both mats). I know the final score is correct: ?A? Team Match by Match Results 160 Meyers won by fall (Meyers had a great first match; he also went first because he also had an exhibition match) 6-0 103 Shue lost by fall 6-6 112 Colon lost by dec 6-9 119 Johns won by dec 9-9 125 Grey lost by maj dec 9-13 130 Egolf lost by dec 9-16 135 Mascaro won by maj dec (The clash of two funky wrestlers 12-2) 13-16 140 Barrett won by dec 16-16 145 McGinley won by dec (came from behind in the last few seconds - looked close to a pinning) 19-16 152 Brogden lost by dec 19-19 171 Mappes lost by dec (Very close 9-10 match that went down to the last sec) 19-22 189 Graber won by dec 22-22 215 Allen won by dec (Excellent match with a lot of action for 2 big men) 25-22 HWT White lost by dec 25-25 IN 26 IL 25 Went down to 6th criteria, IN wins! 6. The team having the greater number of first points scored P.S. Thanks goes to Coach McCormick and all of the Coaches there supporting their wrestler.
  16. Thank you Western Cat for the kind comments. Your comment on not seeing those familar faces next year will be weird. Carmel has a great group of young wrestlers coming up, so we plan to help support them just like others have supported Chris & Will over the years. See you in the stands.
  17. Having watched my youngest finish up his High School career last night at Conseco, I feel nothing but pride and joy for all that he has accomplished over the past 4 years in and out of wrestling. A whole new life is waiting for him and the other senior wrestlers upon graduation. Congrats to each of you for being willing to stand there alone in the middle of a circle ready to take on an opponent. That experience in and of itself, and your willingness to overcome the nerves and fears to do what many would considered too intimidating to ever try, will serve you well in life. My hope for all of you is that your best days are ahead and that the lessons you have learned from being involved with wrestling (on and off of the mat) will help you throughout your life. Regardless of where you ended up at the end of this season, realize that you were successful because you dedicated your time and efforts to the betterment of yourself. I wish each of you great luck and good fortune as you move into the next phase of life. Remember to thank your family, teammates and friends for all of the love & support, emotions, time, energy, money, etc. they have invested/spent to help you excel in life. Again, enjoy the life ahead of you and when you can ? give back to the sport that gave you the opportunities you have had to learn and grow. P.S. and remember to thank you parents! Mr. Mascaro Fatherof2
  18. Warner is not only a good wrestler, he is a great young man. He should do well over the next two weekends. Go Colin Go! See you on the podium @ New Castle. Mr. M
  19. Thanks to all who have contributed to this conversation. I have a son who is a Freshman wrestling at Coe and I have been extremely impressed with the caliber of wrestling at the DIII and NAIA levels. Coe, ranked 4th, takes on DI programs like Iowa during their season. I have spent time in several DI rooms during practice and at Coe's and I have not seen a difference in the intensity of the way they train or wrestle. Now granted Coe does sits in the middle of Iowa (as does Wartburg) so the level of attention and number of people devoted to wrestling is just amazing. My son's coach is an ex-Iowa All-American coached by Gable and he trains these guys hard. Many of these kids could make it easily in some DI programs, but elect to be a student-athlete vs athlete-student. This does not mean that many DI wrestlers don't get great educations. The great part of it all is that these kids (young men) really love wrestling and are keeping it alive at all levels (DI, II, III and NAIA). As for scholarships - if the wrestler has decent grades, there is plenty of money out there in the DIII and NAIA schools in terms of academic, merit and leadrship scholarships. It might be worth checking into a new trend like like Wisconsin have recently passed legislation to let Indiana residents go to school at in-state rates. This can make going to a State U even more affordable. But as this thread started out - it would be great to keep our best talent in IN!
  20. Mascaro is 28-0 going into MIC.
  21. I think we can safely add Odom in at the 130 lbs' prediction. See you on Saturday Dave.
  22. It was a well run meet and a great facility. All of the teams that participated wrestled very competitively. Thank you Avon & Coach Blevins for an enjoyable day.
  23. We are deeply saddened for Blake and his family. We have come to know Blake well over the past three years and he is a fine young man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Blake and his family. The Mascaro Family
  24. Additionally, because Mascaro moved between two weights, Carmel (it is the school that got the individual championship based on total performance for that school at that weight) did not take the 135 lb weight for the tourney. I believe Portage or New Pal may have ended up being named. Thanks MacDaddy for providing a great recap. It was nice meeting you in person during the meet. Good luck to Sean the rest of the season...he look wrestled great and looked strong during the tourney. Also, thanks go to JD Minch for running another very well run tourney!
