  1. Cumulative team points by semi-state:

    New Castle 364.5

    Evansville 345.5

    East Chicago 340

    Fort Wayne 222

I believe this is at least the 4th year in a row that NC has outscored the other semi-states (but never by much). I used to argue that Fort Wayne being lower was "cyclical" because they've had periods historically of being at or near the top too, but it's now north of 15 years as always the lowest scoring semi-state.

I will take the Ft. Wayne comment a step further. If you factor out the schools that are on the periphery of the semi state, Ft. Wayne area wrestling had a very poor showing this past weekend. I see the core of the Ft. Wayne area as Allen, Dekalb, Steuben, Lagrange, Noble, Whitley, Adams, Jay, Wells, Huntington, and Wabash counties. From those counties there were 6 placers total: 3-8th, 2-7th, 1-5th. Three of those were from Adams County. Allen county had zero placers. Let me repeat, the third largest county in the state had zero placers. Joe mentioned this area has a lot of small schools, but it is the big schools in the area that are not keeping pace with the big schools in the rest of the state. Just look at the team state results since the new format. The Ft. Wayne area represents very well in AA and A.

I'm not trying to call out any individuals, teams, etc., but the first step to fixing a problem is to recognize that there is a problem. Years ago FWCS dropped middle school wrestling. Is that the biggest factor? Do other parts of the state conduct their off season differently? I don't know. I am merely a fan. I don't know what can be done to improve wrestling in the greater Ft. Wayne area, but I am sure there are people on this board who could probably come up with some great suggestions or ideas.

  2. Being a coach foe 27 years at a small school and knowing coaches from large schools. We do know what kids records are. Most kids have a pretty good idea of their wins and losses.

I think Chuck brings up a really good small school/big school point here. It's pretty obvious that we need to have classed forums for wrestling because of how different the sport is depending on the size of school you attend. No one from a big school can relate to the achievement of a class A wrestler reaching the 100 win milestone.

Or maybe just once, someone could read a post, and if they don't have a positive thing they can add just back away from the computer and don't throw in your two cents. Crap...that's what I just did. Guess I better add something positive. Nice job everyone who has achieved 100 wins. This posting stuff is hard. I'm going back on my two year hiatus from posting. By the way the class wrestling was firmly tongue in cheek.

  3. I have been to every IHSWCA Team State, and this was the best I have attended and here is why:

I could sit in the top row and watch all the 3A powerhouses battle, then I could look to my left and watch Bellmont dominate the 2A competition. I could look to my right and watch PH and Southmont's teams and fans go crazy over every take down, decision or fall. I could find a ranked kid wrestle almost all the time, with my biggest problem being deciding which match to watch. I could watch Sage Coy kick flip out of a single leg. I could watch the Levitz brothers pin their opponents and turn the championship match around. I could see Jimtown scrap and stay ahead of Yorktown, and end their run of 2A titles. I also could see Yorktown's 106# give up an escape at the end of the third, so the match could go to overtime because his team was down by 4 and he needed a pin instead of a decision.

In previous years at Westfield and Ball State, I had to traverse from gym to gym to try to catch the best matches, and honestly the views were not much better. Having everything under one roof is the way to go. If there is a better facility great. But I hope future events are not in a split venue.

  7. Carroll is tough but i see 3 definate, maybe four total champs from them.  189 is again the deapest weight with mccurrie coming into the 4 from the carroll sectional.  I think\kinda hope striggle gets his lungs\legs back.  If he does, i don't think there is a better 89pounder at this regional.

  8. My crystal ball says:

103 Lee G d.Mckinnley NO - I could see this going either way.

112 Letourneau Wh d. Forrester CC

119 Busz WH d. Gengler Leo

    125 Gilbert WHd.McCray G

    130 Moreau G d.Boggess CH

152 Lefever CA d. Steurty Leo

160 Lefever CA d. Webber Leo

171 Cooper Leo d. Enrietto CA

189 Striggle Wh. d. Siddons CH

215 Jakacki Leo d. Talamentes NO

285 McClure CA d. Beard ES

189 is loaded.  There will be good wrestlers going home at least a week early from that weight class.  I'm sure the seedings won't hold up entirely, so I mixed in some surprises.

  9. Wow this topic has gone no where.  Let me throw some fuel on the fire.  As much as I hate to say it Praire Heights beats Fairfield by at least 10pts.  The genius ratings say .5pt. so I am going out on a limb a bit there.  I think PH will have 5 champions and 3 more in the finals.  Looks to me like FF has 4 champs, with three more in the finals.  But I think PH's studs will come away with more points for falls and widen the gap a bit more.  Busco in third, WN 4th.  I'm not sure about people flying under the radar.  I think the 1 seeds will be pretty solid.

  10. I think they are both way up.  They also have to go through mishawaka to win team regionals.  Heights won sectionals last year, I believe they have won several sectionals.   Fairfield will have to beat goshen, elk memorial, and jimtown to get out of sectioanals.  They are very good and may both win sectional but mishawaka is a tall order, add penn to that equation to.

OUCH.  Nevermind, for some reason I was thinking that team regional opponents would be the same as the teams in individual regional.  Now that I see Mish and Penn in the mix, my last post is amoung the dumbest I have ever read on this board.  However, personally I think they can compete against EM and Jimtown.

  11. I guess everyone else beat me to the who has been close question.  In the past decade, neither FF nor PH would lay the wood to the all the other NECC teams like they did Sat.  Both teams won 10 to 12 of the 14 weights in those duals.  Usually Busco, Angola, West Noble, even Central Noble would be able to win from 4 to 7 of the weights in a dual against those two.  So again, is it that the competition from the other teams is way down, or are those two teams special as far as the NECC goes.  And by special, I mean could they win a team regional and compete at team Semi State?  Or will it be the usual PH wins or comes in second at sectional then goes no farther?  I think a very good indicator will be PH's performance as a team at Al Smith in a couple of weeks.

  12. Statement:  At the NECC superdual last Saturday, Prairie Hieghts and Fairfield dominated all other teams then went head to head with PH winning by 1 pt.  Question: Is the rest of the conference down this year, or are these two teams exceptional this year, or both?
