  1. No one mentioned the Schoolboy Duals from last week. Rough go for our teams there but we did have a few solid individual results against some tough competition.
  2. I think that would be an option However from what I've read it's a little more complicated to transfer within the Big 10. There seems to be some rule that restricts an athlete from being allowed a scholarship at the new school. Though I'm not sure if that's all sports and have no clue how it's worded.
  3. Well one guy used the word fired with no real source of confirmation. Though his thought about how the division occured could have some merit. I could Wisconsin saying that Davis is there long term choice and they would not entertain the idea of Pritz being next in line for the job any time soon. Then I could see them suggestion that if he didn't like that open of a time frame that his head coaching aspirations maybe better serves helping with a different program. Who knows how divided or heated the conversations got though if they even happened that way If that's close to the case then I wouldn't have used the word fired as much as leaving because you didn't like your bosses plan for your chances of advancement. Again no clue if any of that is true it's just based off of the conversation going on in a few other places which could just be speculation also. The guy that originally said fired has already made statements suggesting his comments mat have been more from the circumstances than actual confirmed reports.
  4. My feeling was it maybe something he felt was needed in order to expand the depth of his coaching resume. Pritz has been trying to court a head coaching job at a big school lately but hadn't obtained one. Since he's not going to take over the reigns at Wisconsin soon this maybe a way to show the next set of perspective schools he has a wider body of work in developing athletes and a team. As for Howe losing coaches Pritzlaff, Ruschell, and maybe Frayer too, along with the graduation of one practice partner does put him in a little bit of a bind. I'm guessing he has the preparation and mindset to make it through in Wisconsin, but it does put pressure on Coach Davis to get someone in there quick that is able to work with and help Howe.

  6. One of Andrew Howe's major wrestling influences Donny Pritzlaff leaving Wisconsin. Story circulating around is that Pritzlaff may end up a Michigan assistant. http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/m-wrestl/spec-rel/061211aaa.html
  7. Well gaining steam in the wins department. By getting another win in the UFC he's still a viable fighter for them to work with. Where as losing would have place him on a two fight skid and probably in danger of falling off their radar.
  8. Litle vs Hardy set to be main fight. Fight announcements thus far http://www.sherdog.com/events/UFC-Live-5-Hardy-vs-Lytle-16967
  9. Herman also collects fight of the night honors in his UFC debute.
  10. Though it seems it wasn't clear cut Elkins did get the win and is starting to build some steam in the UFC. Herman had a slugfest ending in a Knockout victory to add to his long list of wins.
  11. For those interested Sanderson won the World Team Trial in impressive fashion. Using a lot of hip control and counters to beat Herbert two matches in a row. I believe he only conseeded two points in the finals. Seems as though he may be able to make a de net run if e can keep getting closer to his old form.
  12. Escobedo and Hasseman both lost during the challenge part of the event. On a side note Sanderson has been impressive on his way through the challenge portion. He will face Herbert in the final match tonight to determine who wins the World Team Trials.
  13. Unfortunately it isn't exactly a lock for him yet. I tried to explain the dynamics of his special case in the World Team Trial thread. http://indianamat.com/messageboard/index.php/topic,17534.msg123040.html#msg123040 But yes winning the US Open and World Team Trials is big. To do by beating a top level guy like Bunch both times is huge and the US coaches should take that into consideration when making the final decision on who wi represent the US.
  14. Howe lost two straight matches to Burroughs in the finals to become the first alternate for the World Team. Huphrey beat Bunch in two out of three matches to win the World Team Trials. That two huge back to back wins over a tough Shawn Bunch. However, it was said that since Bunch did win the Medved (one of the top international tournaments) the coaches have not made their final decision as to if Humphrey will be the representative. Here is part of www.themat.com explanation for this. "Humphrey won the World Team Trials, but the World Team member is not yet determined in this weight class. Humphrey and Bunch will be entered in an international tournament later this year. In order for Bunch to make the team, he will have to medal at the event and place higher in the standings than Humphrey. Bunch qualifies for this under new criteria which recognizes international performances. Bunch won the Medved International in Belarus to meet this criteria." http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=23713 Depending on how this turns our Reece may or may not make the team. I would hope if the results are close yet Bunch edges h out in The event that the coaches would take Reece's two wins into consideration and give him another chance through a challenge match or additional competition. Beating Bunch outright on two occasions in a row should count for something that one international tournament draw by itself shouldn't completely nullify.
  15. Hasseman would see Sanderson in the semi-finals of the challenge tournament tomorrow. Cejudo apparenty didn't sign up so that's one less obstical for Escobedo to fight through.
  16. Howe wins the challenge final and will face Burroughs tonight for the finals.
  17. www.themat.tv showing all four mats live. Half the weights today and half tomorrow. Challenge tournament is held in morning with best of three team trial finals held in the evening. Hump will have a rematch with Bunch in the finals. Howe about to be up in challenge tournament final match. For those wondering Bryce Hasseman will be going tomorrow in the same weight class Cael Sanderson will be make his return. Angel Escobedo will also be up tomorrow in Henry Cejudos weight class.
  18. Here is a link to the USA Wrestling Mag info on the digital copy http://themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=23689
  19. My feeling is this is a must win to stay in UFC for Omigawa and possibly Elkins too. So we could have a solid prelim bout. Dave "Pee Wee" Herman fighting on the Main card against a BBJ standout who is just now moving up the MMA ladder.
  20. Great story of overcoming obstacles and striving for a better future. I hope he and Indiana Tech will both continue to grow. I posted this story on themat.com so others could see another example of what effect wrestling can have on a person beyond just winning matches.
  21. Not making excuses but just trying to play out some senerios. According to the criteria you are suppose to list your team prior to the event. Possibly not everyone that showed for it was listed as being on the team. Maybe they didn't say they were sure about going when the team put the list together. Maybe they didn't count there first year little guys. Seems like that would work according to the rules ad long as those guys didn't get scored to help that team. I would say that's a rules issue then. If members of a team is the issue, then When do we then count them. By a certain date in the season everyone on your club is on the team. After the early sign up of an event. After the late sign up for an event. What the coach lists say when they turn in the paper. Do they have to come from your school district? Within a certain distance of your practice facility. If someone buys a card from you but isn't at many practices and you never know when they are attending events are try still a team member? Do we allow some small all star clubs to form who's rarely practices together but organizes to compete at team state? Lots of senerios here for what a team is and the purpose of that team. If we are going to make ISWA team events a big deal maybe we then need to decide how to better define how the winner should be determined. Could the newspaper coverage be flawed in some way. Double counting anyone who wrestled both cadet and junior possibly? Counting Greco numbers in with it thinking that te events were together? I've found the news reporters don't always get the information clear when covering regular stories let along something they have little understanding about like wrestling events. We could speculate over little issues all day for many wrestlers and teams over the course of the event. Just not sure we need a witch hunt over a ISWA team score without some decent hard evidence.
  22. I'm not sure they made it official yet. However, the IHSWCA board was told by the assistant commissioner they will be discontinuing it after this year. I would say if he canals that statement it's safe to say the IHSAA board has the votes they need.
  23. http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=23674 Nice gesture by UFC fighter Clay Guida to take time to talk about Durlacher in his Ultimate Finale post fight interview and also dedicating the win to him.

No clue on Kinser. I haven't heard anything about his post-college career fight plans. Bailey one his Ultimate Finale. It did make the TV coverage, but here is a www.sherdog.com recap. Sounds like he's still going heavy to his wrestling background. Round 1 Bailey stands and trades for a moment, but ducks under a combination from McGillivray at the 30 second mark and puts the Canadian on the floor. Bailey works from side control, driving knees into McGillivray?s ribs. McGillivray uses his feet to push off the fence and stands, but Bailey grabs a Thai plum upon standing and leaps with a few knees up the middle. Nice left hand from Bailey, who has a single-leg stuffed by McGillivray. The left eye of McGillivray has begun to swell. Bailey backs up and taunts McGillivray, trying to get him to come forward. The wrestler rushes McGillivray and nearly gets taken down, but Bailey winds up on top. McGillivray has an underhook and twists underneath, trying to keep guard. Bailey winds up in side control and McGillivray gives up his back, then rolls through when Bailey tries to take it. Referee Chris Tognoni tells McGillivray to stand and they resume trading with less than a minute to go. Bailey scores another takedown at the horn. Mike Fridley scores the round 10-9 Bailey Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Bailey Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Bailey Round 2 McGillivray is moving quickly at the start of the second, throwing volume punches as instructed by cornerman Jason MacDonald. He snuffs a single-leg from Bailey, but the next try sees Shamar put McGillivray on his back with ease. Bailey tries to pass half-guard, dropping intermittent punches and elbows. Bailey lays a forearm across McGillivray?s throat and McGillivray rolls, putting Bailey back in closed guard. Bailey stands and dives back down with a hard right hand. He shucks the legs of McGillivray and takes side control in the center of the cage. For the second time in the fight, McGillivray flattens out and grabs at a brabo choke from underneath. Instead, he turtles while Bailey punches to the head and knees at McGillivray?s side. McGillivray?s foot becomes trapped in Bailey?s trunks and Tognoni frees it. Bailey closes out the round on top. Mike Fridley scores the round 10-9 Bailey Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Bailey Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Bailey Round 3 McGillivray has a head kick blocked, lands a follow-up left hook, and then gets taken down. He springs back up, but Bailey slams him down again and lands in side control on McGillivray?s left. Bailey tries to trap the left arm, but McGillivray gets it loose and turtles again. Bailey shoves him into the cage and punches away; Tognoni warns him not to hit the back of McGillivray?s head. McGillivray stands and Bailey grabs a guillotine with three minutes to go. He doesn?t have the angle on the taller McGillivray and lets it go. Back on the feet, McGillivray is throwing heavier shots than the spent Bailey, but Bailey nonetheless executes another takedown. Bailey leans from McGillivray?s left to right and grinds away with punches. McGillivray gets to his feet and throws his hands up in frustration. Bailey responds by going for another takedown, and that?s where it ends. Mike Fridley scores the round 10-9 Bailey (30-27 Bailey) Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Bailey (30-27 Bailey) Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Bailey (30-27 Bailey) Official scores: It?s a clean sweep for Shamar Bailey, who takes a unanimous decision with scores of 30-27 from judges Adalaide Byrd, Junichiro Kamijo and Cecil Peoples.

He wil be fighting Ryan from TUF on tomorrow nights finale. Hopefully a solid win there may help to keep him as a viable UFC option.
