  1. To back-up my point - there was another thread on here about 'favorite round' at the tournament. Overwhelmingly 2 of the 3 favorite rounds had NO wrestlebacks! Don't kill the fun and excitement or you'll continue to kill the sport.
  2. I added a topic called "NEVER Have ticket round wrestlebacks" and you guys made my point. As Miller notes exciting rounds...2 of his top 3 are rounds with no wrestlebacks. Think about this before you all start advocating for wrestlebacks! Don't ruin the best rounds and continue to kill the sport. Keep the excitement! It's already as fair as it can be.
  3. whoah chief. I don't think anyone was 'hating' as you put it. I'm pretty sure everyone was overwhelmingly positive; the question was for discussion and did not mention any individuals name. And - it still doesn't change the point that LAW made that a class system would allow an excuse to not give a girl credit where credit is due. I think that was a good point by Law. If you were refering to 10old he was 'discussing' his thoughts on the 'discussion' forum, and did not refer to any individual wrestler. I think he was careful and sensitive to make his point and not be a 'hater,' but I could be wrong.
  4. Oh, there is a way I can argue it's fair! ha - you must not be familiar with The Cat. They all have an equal chance at the draws. They all have the same opportunity to win two matches. By definition, that is fair. - The argument that someone got a bad draw is irrelevant because they each had the same chance at the draw. (fair) - Also what if one semistate is drastically stronger at a weight class ? Should we then make the 3rd and 4th place at Ft. Wayne wrestler the 5th-8th guys from Evansville? That would ensure that only the best guys get through. Point is, you have to win if you want to qualify. It's impossible to ensure the 'best' 16 get to the tournament, but if you are one of the 'best' 16 you can ensure your own spot by winning two matches at SemiState. And everyone has the same opportunity and chance. - Thus, fair. So, ruining that exciting round for the sake of wrestling back is pointless. We could have wrestlebacks forever at every stage but the point is, its completely fair. You show up, you win, you advance. You don't win, you get poorer draws, you decrease your chances of a good draw, but you still have the same opportunity to win two matches and qualify. FAIR as can be.
  5. Law - you actually just made a really good argument against class wrestling - Look out for Y2's wrath. If it had been class wrestling, you're right, it would have been said that she couldn't qualify in the other divisions and would have greatly watered down her accomplishment. Bookmark this point the next time they start talking about class wrestling.
  6. I hear a lot of discussion about ticket round wrestlebacks. Please NEVER advocate this. This is by far the most exciting round of wrestling in the entire season. If there are wrestlebacks all of the drama of will he be a state qualifier or will he go home will be gone. That would be like having a consolation bracket in the NCAA basketball tournament where the losers can come back to win it all. Yah, a guy or two might miss out on qualifying, but don't say it isnt fair - they all have an equal opportunity at the draw, and equal opportunity to win their respective matches to earn their qualification. Good or bad, think about how exciting this round is to watch! Don't ever ruin the most exciting round of wrestling all year - Please
  7. Can we get some context to the Cradles /former wreslter / fanman argument? sounds interesting but hard to follow! sounds like it'd make a good discussion!!
  8. Some are broadcast, but there is a specific rule prohibiting videotaping a match that isn?t your kid or your program, and it's written quite clearly. (I believe Y2 once posted the actual rule so it might be found in the archives) However, I don?t really see that its very enforceable. What are you going to do, punish a kid because a parent did something? Like I said - unenforceable.
  9. A lady qualifies for the state tournament - For discussion sake... 1- Does this make the argument that the Merrillville Semi-State is the 'toughest' a little weaker? - If it does is that fair? 2- Was she that good today, or were the boys this morning wrestling that bad? TechFall and 10-0 is pretty darn dominant
  10. Snatch should be banned from the board. And, wrestlers should touch gloves at the start of the 1st and come out swinging.
  11. I don't really think it counts as 'BIG' unless you have two returning SQ's, or two top 10 ranked guys. Saying its a 'BIG' match because two clowns who had weak schedules all year run into each other isn't valid.
  12. You cannot go back and change it. That's like a call in any other sport; if the other coaches didn't notice it, then it's on them as well for not paying attention. If a team has 12 defensive men on the football field and no one notices, the offensive team cannot complain after the game. I don't know how you are aware the team committed this infraction on purpose, but if it is on purpose, they should have their entire sectional stricken-team score wise-and place last.
  13. Seriously? You clowns continue to amaze me. Whos the best ... Oh yeah must be Perry and MD greatest of all time. Perhaps if anyone on this board remembered any wrestling before the year 2000 there may be some content worth reading.
  14. Caleb - it appears you advocate for no rankings? ! ... If the only way to make a judgement is by head to head, then why is McKinley being seconded because of someones OPINION to disregard 1/3 of a match at their own discretion? I believe they had a head to head... This is like saying you chose to disregard whichever quater of the Packers game suits them best to prove they aren't the best team in the NFL.
  15. With all the conference ?realignment? for NCAA Football, I was curious as to your thoughts of the impact in wrestling, both school wise, and possibly some individual match-ups?? Nebraska to the Big 10, Pitt to the ACC, Rutgers/Maryland rumored for big 10 possibility, Missouri leaving Big 12, Oklahoma / Oklahoma St. possibly to Pac12, just to name a few. (For example could have had a Nebraska v Wisconsin match-up last year in an individual conference finals, which could greatly affect NCAA draws.) Conferences will have to adapt for bids to the NCAA?s how many per conference, etc.
  16. Well....University of Wisconsin Whitewater.. But still a good day for college wrestling any time a 3x world champion wants to help out.
  17. I see mentioned the idea of an iphone/tablet/android app for wrestling If someone were developing this, what all would everyone like to see included? What functions, whats missing from others, etc.
  18. Any insight on what in the world 'no pun intended' happened to Reece? I would assume losing to France was a suprise?
  19. I am so tired of seeing folks post 'the shake-up' with assistant coaches at Wisconsin. If you have much knowledge of collegiate wrestling you would be aware this happens on a near yearly basis at just about every school. So, Wisconsin changing assistants bears no influence what-so-ever on any recruiting.
  20. in 2008 the Nevada Athletic Commission conducted a study over the previous 5 years, concluding MMA was SAFER than boxing. "The real telling statistic put forth by the British Journal of Sports Medicine involved the injury most serious, the one that makes fighters stutter, stumble, and end up suffering what MDs call Pugilistic Dementia, Punch Drunk to the layman. While better than 10% of boxing matches involve severe concussions, the studys work that should send the boxing world stumbling, is that in five years of MMA fights in Nevada, only 1.5% of the combatants suffered severe concussions."
  21. Purdue alum Fitch, and NCAA champion Johny Hendricks will fight at UFC 141 December 30th. Brock Lesnar is also on the card. With big wrestling stars on the card, is this good or bad for wrestling?
  22. Haven't seen much about this on the board lately- but a crazy story. Google it and read some of the information. It would be a good ?cautionary tale? to review with your kids headed off to college. The story: Basically this kid was an NCAA qualifier as a sophomore and was accused at a party of an unwanted sexual contact. He denied it. He even refused the opportunity to get out early by admitting guilt and taking sex offender class. During his 7 years in prison he maintained innocence. The caution: He didn't tell his parents because he was embarrassed and this left him very vulnerable and without support. He also made a poor decision at the party putting himself in a bad spot. The crazy part: I certainly don't know if he is guilty or not, but weeks after being released from a 7 year prison term the kid wins the US Open. Then he makes the finals at the World Team Trials? That's pretty impressive after 7 years in prison!! The question: If he was doing a camp would you let your kid attend?
  23. Fresh off of his title at Ion Corneanu Memorial in Romania the question remains...
