  1. Jordan Hamilton 10th at 171 Churubusco- All State Football, qualified for regionals in track.
  2. Has anyone heard the results of the survey that the coaches took at sectionals? If not when will the inforomation be availible?
  3. This is just my two cents on the issue of getting kids out at a small school. I coach at Churubusco, and I was lucky enough to come into a program that had alot of individual success but not alot of numbers. This past season we had 27 wrestlers for the entire year (we started with aroubnd 34). Our middle school has around 35 kids out right now. I think that the key to us getting numbers out is that we have a school that has every program working together. Each program lifts the same weights (BFS) each coach encourages their atheletes to compete in other sports. I would say 90 percent of our kids play two to three sports. Our coaches all work together. Coach Etzler encourages the football guys to wrestle and play basketball, we encourage our kids to do track or baseball, and it continues year round. I do not coach football, but I was at the early morning weights for football- but open to all atheletes in the summer. Another reason that I beieve that we are able to keep numbers out is because we stress the importance of all of our guys, and we also try and get our J.V. kids alot of matches. Our guys have about 20 matches each, and we were looking to add matches up until last week. Look at the JV open dates page, we are on it two or three times looking for matches. In the end I think that you need to treat every kid as being inportant, at a small school you never know who will be varsity some day. You need to work with not fight with your other coaches, and you need to get your kids oppurtunities to wrestle. Just my two cents on how to get kids out at a small school.

  5. One of the proposals from the state as a possibility to save money for cash strapped schools is to cut after school activities and even sports. Im just curious if anyone has heard or knows of any wrestling, or other atheletic programs that may be cut around the state. Even with this being a proposal I have yet to hear of any schools or programs that are getting dropped and I pray that this doesn't happen. It would truelly be a tragedy for those students who loose the oppurtunity in any sport, or organization. A friend of mine recently told me of an article in the Indy Star in which a former Indiana Basketball coach conveys his feelings that in ten years high school atheletics will be obsolete, and replaced mainly by club sports. That is an even scarier scenario in my opinion. I know that in our state, and in our sport the school programs are much stronger than the club ones, if wrestling went to an almost completly club sport, I think it would kill our sport. In sports like basketball, and baseball many coaches feel that the club (AAU, Summer baseball) sports are much better, and Atheletes recieve better competion, with less restricitons. Another fear that I have is for the non-"superstar" athelete, who I feel gets lost in club atheletics. What do you guys think.
  6. Just wondering if anyone knew when or if the results of the survey taken by the coaches would be posted, or if the information was going to be posted? I figure it will be made availible at the spring coaches clinic, but didn't know for sure if it would be on here. Also anyone want to discuss it? I thought it will be very benificial in at least interpeting the coaches interests on the topics asked. I think its obvious that the areas covered are the "hot botton" issues and no matter what the IHSAA desicions are we will at least have a good base for discusion at the coaches clinics now. What do you guys think? I mean I dont agree with the possible direction that it could take us, but at least we will know how everyone feels now.
  7. What happened to him? Thats like 3 CN wrestlers out since Monday.
  8. Anybody got any predicaions for the meet on Saturday? Should be a good day of wrestling with some interesting match-ups.
  9. Recently I have been thinking about possible things that we could ask for from the ihsaa that would be attainable, while at the same time helping to develope and grow Indiana wrestling. One pretty simple thing that we could ask for in my opinion would be one extra weigh-in. This would give each team an extra dual meet which gets lots of fans out to the meets. Gives varsity and j.v. wrestlers the chance to wrestle, and it would produce about 150 extra events for wrestling each year. i also think that this would be something that could be very attainible what do you guys think?
  10. Busco 189 is Braxton not Sam Siddons. Sam is 145.

  12. And just like I said I think the team portion would be better if it were classed, it takes fourteen kids not just one as it does in the individual portion of the tournament.
  13. Yeah and Penn also has a couple thousand more students than Busco does, I have never said that size doesnt make a difference in the team portion of the tournament. I would say trying to compair Penn and Busco is the naive statement.
  14. Thats the answer consolidation. And yes I am aware that some atheletes transfer and go to schools for athletic reasons, but a vast mojority of kids still go to the school districts that they were born and live in.
  15. Yeah but in college its the institutions choice what they want to spend on Athletics, and the level of Athelete that they get. In high school you have no choice. So that is why Trine is not in the same league as Iowa, they choose not to put the same money into it. They also choose to be at the DIII level, which is not a bad thing, it is just their choice. High Schools on the other hand have no say in the number, or level of Athelete that they get. For the most part you get who you have no matter how much you put into athletics. It is not a choice of what level you want to be, but instead what you are given. Its the fact that colleges have a choice in where they are that to me makes the arguments different.
  16. I dont think that college sports are the same as high school in these arguments. In college they recruit atheletes at a certain level. The athelete, and the coach knows what level of kid they are getting. Its a choice. In high school you get what you get. This is why I am for classing the team portion of the tournament. To me its a fairly simple idea, to be the best team you need 14 guys, thus big schools are at an advantage. In the individual you need one individual. Thus no classing, the best man wins.
  17. Anybody got any predictions for this tournament. I know that Greenville really dominated it last year, should be alot of pretty even teams there this year.
  18. Does anybody know when everyone wrestles each other yet?
  19. I thought that you needed to have 6 at the weight you are wrestling. From what Mattm has you really only have to make weight one time during the season and you can wrestle it at sectionals?
  20. Question- I know that a wrestler needs to have 6 weigh-ins for the sectional at a weight in order to wrestle it, and that one of those weigh-ins has to be at scratch weight. So here are my questions. 1. Is this six deifferent acctual weigh-ins, or does a multi-team event dcount as two weigh-ins? 2. Do future wiegh-ins at the regional, semi-state and state count, or do the six total have to be before sectionals? 3. If a wrestler does not meet the criteria are they not allowed to wrestle in the tournament? 4. If you needed an extra weigh-in could you weigh a varsity kid in at a J.V. meet, and if you do this does that count toward your season total for weigh-ins even if he doesnt wrestle? Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Do you know if Riley is an open tournament, or do they just allow 16 teams?
  22. Where is this camp being held at? What Age groups?
