  1. It looks like David Palmer from Delta went 2, 1, 1, 1. Does anyone know the story on his freshman year? Was he like a 1 career loss guy or anything like that?
  2. Who is the greatest wrestler to ever come out of the Fort Wayne semi-state. I was debating this with a friend of mine the other day and thought it would make an interesting topic. We figured that either Anton Talamantes or Tim Myers would be one and two. We very well could be missing someone though. Anyone else in the argument?
  3. https://youtu.be/MueM8qpd3qM Not sure if anyone has seen this, but this is a sweet celebration from a Japanese Olympic champ. Worth checking out.
  4. Manchester University to wrestle and also play football. Congrats and good luck.
  5. There were a handful of changes recommended by the committee. I didn't feel that there was anything too earth shattering that came from the suggestions, but there were changes to what sectional, regional, or semi-state a handful of teams would go to. The suggestions go before an IHSAA committee before anything is official. We were instructed not to discuss anything that came from the meeting, but I feel this is vague enough to give an update, while not infringing upon the process that the IHSAA hopes to conduct.
  6. How does it appear that not all kids had to follow the two qualifier rule? The closest thing to proof that I have seen is Joe claiming that a mystery 4th grader from Jeffersonville got to wrestle. I don't see how making claims about the integrity of of volunteers with zero proof is any good for anyone.
  7. The Riesen coaching tree gets its first branch... Also I was told this weekend, and just confirmed via school website that Huntington North is open
  8. My favorite part of this whole thread is that people would have been complaining if the kids mentioned above had been left off of the teams. The ISWA can't win on here, no matter what people would be complaining right now. This summer it's all that has been on the site, complaints, I have seen very few people try to come up with solutions. Also isn't there something to be said for winning an ISWA state title? You guys are acting like someone if forcing you to wrestle in the event, and that it's a waste of money for you to go.

The 2015 Big Ten, NWCA and InterMat Coach of the Year, Ryan concluded his ninth season in Columbus by watching both Logan Stieber and Nathan Tomasello win NCAA titles on the way to the squad's first ever team title. Additionally, the Buckeyes also ended a 64-year Big Ten title drought, winning the championship in front of a home crowd at St. John Arena. In all, Ryan has coached four different student-athletes to eight national championships as Logan Stieber (141 pounds) was a four-time champion, J Jaggers (141 pounds), the 2009 Ohio State Male Athlete of the Year, was a two-time champion in 2008 and 2009, Mike Pucillo was the 184-pound champion in 2008 and Nathan Tomasello the 125 pound champion in 2015. In the NCAA championship team race, the Ryan-led Buckeyes have finished in the Top 10 in eight of the last nine seasons, including the 2015 national title and back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2008 and 2009. Additionally, Ryan and his staff have coached 14 NCAA finalists - Stieber (2012-15), Jaggers (2008, 2009), Pucillo (2008, 2009), Tomasello (2015), Kyle Snyder (2015), Nick Helfin (2014), Lance Palmer (2010), Reece Humphrey (2009), J.D. Bergman (2008). Under Ryan's tutulage, nine Buckeyes have been crowed Big Ten champions - Pucillo (2008), Palmer (2010), L. Stieber (2012-15), H. Stieber (2013), Tomasello (2015) and Helfin (2014). Throughout his tenure as the head coach of Ohio State, Ryan, a three-time national coach of the year, has maintained a high standard of excellence for his student-athletes. In addition to the successes of Jaggers, Pucillo and Stieber on the national level, under Ryan's guidance Lance Palmer (2007-10) became just the second four-time All-American at Ohio State. (Tommy Rowlands was the first). Ryan, a native of Wantagh, N.Y., is averaging about three All-Americans a season having coached 23 selections during his seven-year term. Within the Big Ten Conference, Ryan has coached a quartet of Buckeyes to league titles in Pucillo (184 pounds in 2008), Palmer (149 pounds in 2010), Logan Stieber (133 pounds in 2012 and 2013) and Hunter Stieber (141 pounds in 2013). Prior to coaching at Ohio State, Ryan was the head coach at Hofstra from 1995-2006. While with the Pride, Ryan earned Eastern Collegiate Wrestling Association and Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year honors seven times. He also was named New York State Coach of the Year twice. Leading Hofstra to six consecutive conference titles, Ryan and the Pride recorded a 47-match (46-0-1) conference unbeaten streak in dual action which served as the nation's longest conference unbeaten streak. Ryan also was an assistant coach at Indiana from 1992-94. Ryan earned his bachelor's degree in education from Iowa in 1993. He and his wife, Lynette, have four children, Jordan, Jake, Teague and Mackenzie
  12. I guess my only question would be how important is this event? I always thought it was a big time, big deal event. If that is the case, then winning absolutely matters, and we should want our top teams out there. If the event isn't all that important then I guess it really wouldn't matter. I honestly don't know the answer to this, could someone fill me in on the status of this event in terms of importance?

  14. Doesn't it depend on the "goal" of the tournament? I honestly don't know what this event is geared toward, but it would seem that with the dual meet setting attempting to find the best team (in this case state) would be the goal. If that is the case we are hurting our (Indiana's) chances of winning the event by dividing up our talent. I agree that the goal is that kids should have fun, but isn't winning an aspect of the sport too? Also the prestige of the event makes a difference. Its not like this is the Churubusco Open, it seems like a pretty big event. It really comes down to if we care if we win or not.

  16. Just saw a post for this on facebook. It's located at Carroll Middle School, something Fort Wayne needs for sure if ran right. Anyone have any info on costs, coaches, stuff like that?
  17. About 3 days ago Burroughs did a twitter Q and that I just ran across. Two things stood out to me. First, he went to Nebraska to play running back and wrestle. Second, when asked who was on his short list for recruiting he said Indiana and Nebraska were his only options. Anyone have any insight to how close it was? That was the first I had ever heard that, but it would have been great for IU had he went there.
  18. Hey we are trying to print off our stats for this season, We are having two problems. 1. The state series is not showing up in our matches, and statistics. 2. We have several duplicate names, mainly for JV kids. Anyone know how to fix either of these issues?
  19. Man I was just reading the ISWA Facebook page. Some of the wrestling parents are crazy. Anyone claiming that the event was poorly ran is short sighted. I thought things went very well given how many kids they had wrestling. Anytime I read people complaining I figure that they had a kid lose and blame it on the setup of the event. I guess some people just like to complain about anything.
  20. Just saw on the ISWA Facebook that Tell City finished third at folkstyle state. What's the story on them? Isn't Tell City a smaller school? Is it just a good crew coming through, some sort of collaboration of schools, have I been missing something all if these years?
  21. My mistake it's actually called "scrumpox"
  22. It is also known as scrum herpes because it's prevalent in rugby too.
  23. Those are all really good ideas. The most important thing that we do is work with football, and track. In turn they push kids to wrestle. The main way we did this was by doing the exact same weights program those sports do. This year football lifted everyday after school. We just started practice half an hour later. Football kids lifted, cross country kids ran, some kids did homework, some kids did extra wrestling stuff. It keeps them working with their teammates, and let's them focus on what might be their "main" sport while still wrestling. Our school also started giving three sport athlete patches to three sport kids. The patcges look cool, and help to get kids out for sports that they may not otherwise do. We picked up at least 5 kids with these patches alone. They ran track, played football, and couldn't make the basketball team, that left us hahaha. A couple of other things we do- tell the kids they have a good shot at lettering if they come out for the team. Our 106-120 this year consisted of three freshmen who had never wrestled before. We didn't win a lot, but we didn't forfeit. Push your JV schedule. We keep a fair number of kids for 4 years this way, our guys get between 15 and 20 JV matches, it keeps them out. Push the team. Let them know that we won't beat, whatever team without them. Sell the kids on the importance of each weight. Example this year our 182 won a match against Eastside that won the dual for us. He had 4 wins all year, but that match he won the dual for us. Also to add to what Y2 said give the kids stuff for getting kids out. We gave the wrestler who got the most kids out a pair of shoes. We also would do smaller stuff, buy a case of gatorade, if a guy came to conditioning because you brought him you both get gatorade, stuff like that.
