Hoosiers Crossroads Conference this Saturday features: Avon, Brownsburg, Noblesville, Hamilton Southeastern, Fishers, Westfield, Zionsville, McCutcheon, Lafayette Harrison, Lafayette Jefferson.
HSE is the favorite---6 different teams could compete for second.
instead of Forfeits-- a few of our JV events we have done just that. We have extra wrestlers and we insert them into another teams line-up that would be forfeiting those weight classes. They do not score in the dual----but kids are getting matches instead of forfeits. We send a coach over to coach are guys as their matches come up.
I liked the weight classes assigned to mats----though I would put lighter weights in the gym.
Have designated corner for coaches----some kids seemed to have a coach on every side of the mat
I have been to the last 5-6 and this was the best run I have seen---nice job!
I can see how Perry could get offended here. I officiate and coach and I see their coaches everywhere. From Middle school events to elementary duals. They are as hardworking of a coaching staff as I have seen. I hope one day we recognize how lonely it can be as you reach the top.
This is a case of getting success by putting the time in.
If a seeded wrestler is not able to wrestle the school can enter his replacement as the 6th seed. if the school has no replacement then the wrestler with the * is placed on the 6th seed line.
By the brackets it appears HSE could get 7/ 8 into the finals and Westfield 6. Look for Fishers and Zionsville to get 3-4. Fishers could slip in a 5th. Consols will determine second place between these three. HSE will be tough to beat for the championship.
Stephens of Fishers wins vs Snyder of Avon----9-6 Has beaten Uhls of Shelbyville/ lost twice by 1/2 to Janney of HSE
Stephens loses in OT to Mason of Huntington N
Snyder of Avon defeats Mason of Huntington by one
Congrats to HSE---they have a special team. Tatum's replacement got the pin---not sure how you improve on that. We beat Edreece at County.
Fishers won 5 matches. At 285 it was a one point match (8-7)---both wrestlers did a nice job. at 126 Syverson competed with Watson before being pinned.
We hosted a JV tournament at Fishers yesterday with 13 teams. At 132 we had 24 wrestlers and at 138 we had 22 wrestlers. At 182 we had 7 wrestlers. What have been other experiences? I do not think they took into acount how many bigger football players just do not wrestle anymore.
we were in a JV tournament this past weekend. We have an excellent group of freshmen. At this particular tournament our freshmen were wrestling sophomores and Juniors----all our JV's are freshmen. Our kids are hardnosed---but I saw the look on a few of their faces. There was a big discrepency in physical maturity. The discrepency at the varsity level is greater. Bottom line some freshmen are ready for varsity action----especially in the lower weights. Some freshmen however need more time---nothing wrong with that.
HSE is definitely the clear favorite. We could see a few interesting matches in the semis. Last year there were many surprises. My guess:
1) HSE-----very good depth---potential 8 finalists---could place top 4 at 12-13 weights
2) Fishers---could have 6 finalists with sleepers at 112 and 171----look for 10-11 in top 4
3) Westfield-- will be very close to Fishers----amount of 3/4th place finishers will determine who is second/ third
4) Noblesville--good team depth---amount of finalist might keep them out of top 3-----12 capable of top 4
5) carmel---lacking overall team depth as compared to past----will be dangerous come sectional as youngsters gain experience
others with strong individuals ready to play spoilers---Hamilton Heights, Guerin, and Sheriden
Westfield includes 16 teams
Pool A Northview, Zionsville, TC Howe, Westfield
Pool B Evansville Memorial, Heritage, Ben Davis, Northwest
Pool C Princeton, Fishers, Shelbyville, Lebanon
Pool D Roncalli, Terre Haute South, Speedway, Mt Vernon
A great day of Wrestling!!
What if we used a point system based on the previous year? e.g.:
returning state placer---10 points
returning state qualifier--8 points
returning semi-state qualifier--6 points
returning regional qualifier--4 points
returning varsity wrestler with 20 or more matches--2 points
returning varsity wrestler with 10-19 matches--1 point
We could also factor in this site and a coaches poll. I would suggest 8 teams---two divisions to start ( 16 teams total). I would hold this event The first week of january to allow teams to get wrestlers to their respective weights as well as to allow wrestlers to get into their prime condition.
