Well, first of all, the French guy is much better than you would expect coming out of France. He's been fringe Top 10 for the past couple of years, so he's no slouch.
Tactically speaking, according to Reece, he just wasn't aggressive enough in running his stuff...he let the Frenchman come to him. And when you're one of the Top 10 or 15 in the world, you've got plenty of tricks in the bag to come with.
Finally, I would read between the lines of some comments Reece made and suggest he didn't take him as seriously as he should have. With the world champ Russian looming in the semi's and Reece having beaten plenty of guys in the past of the Frenchman's quality, I think he probably wasn't as dialed in as sometimes.
It really is a shame. It would have been great to have had his weight locked up for the Olympics for the U.S. And besides getting a crack at the best in the world in the semi's, I think Reece would have been a tough match for the Japanese that ended up with the bronze over the Frenchman.
