  1. Often, for the most successful programs and individuals, the conference tourneys do not provide the highest level of competition. Obviously you want to be peaking as you head into the state tournament so I feel a higher level invite would be more beneficial for some programs than the conference tournament. This isnt to say that the conference tourney is not ever good competition (just look at the DAC) but leaving this weekend open for optional events could be beneficial.
  2. Gotcha. I misread the previous post.
  3. As long as Duck weighs in above 162 he can wrestle 189. He does not have to be over 173.
  4. Has anyone come across brackets for this tournament?
  5. A case where a wrestler was DQ'd from a match but not from the series occured when Brennan Cosgrove "slammed" Eric McGill at Regionals. Obviously we got to see a rematch of that rivalry under the lights at Conseco.
  6. Porras, Galka, Dillon, and Cosgrove. 125, 135, 140 and 145.
  7. Not exactly sure how this works of if Hobart is contractually obligated to participate in the conference tourney but it seems that not only are they going to lose revenue by not having this tournament but it would provide for slightly better competition for their wrestlers as well. I know it is not happening this way but even if they wanted to, could Hobart shun the conference tourney and still host the invite? I am not sure but i do not think any conference teams are in the invite unless other conferences run into the same problem with the reschedule they should be able to get the same teams to the tourney.
  8. Should be an interesting tournament as Hobart appears to be a much better tourney team than a duel team after winning the Lake County meet. Being from Hobart I am rooting for them but it seems almost unfair that if they win this tourney they will subsequently win the conference (i think). The 75% 25% split is tough but I guess it affects everyone in the same way. GO BRICKS! By the way are there any brackets or at least seeds for this meet yet?

    130

Did you come up with this on your own??? I am just playing you are absolutly right. It is just a thought that gets echoed on this board in just about every post.

    130

Clearly we have a group of 4 (or even more) wrestlers in this weight class who are essentially even and any one could beat the other on a given day so here is what we have to do... Force each wrestler to wrestler the other three at least 500 times (like a Monte Carlo Simuation) keep record of how many times each defeated the other and then look at overall record vs the others ranked in the top four. Then and only then will we know who should be ranked #1 at 130lbs
  11. This technique is not always used to demoralize or humiliate an opponent... There are matches and wrestlers where being on top of a wrestler is much more dangerous than being in a neutral position especially if you are the better wrestler on your feet. I have seen many wrestlers use this technique and only score a regular decision and keep themselves out of trouble against a much better ground wrestler. The goal is to win the match however you can and if that means beating an opponent 12-7 rather than 2-1 then he has still accomplished his goal.
  12. It seems that many papers focus on the "outstanding individual" articles and never cover the actual wrestling when it occurs. For example in the region there have been articles about Sean McMurry, Alex Surma, and Frankie Porras but there has been hardly any coverage of individual meets or tournaments. Even results have been hard to come by this year. While I appreciate the idea of giving credit where it is due to these individuals I would love to see more coverage of wrestling matches and meets as they occur.

  14. There are not enough heavy wrestlers to fille 6 weightclasses in the 200's. You would probably have more forfeits than you do now. Probably the best solution (not that I feel there is anything wrong with the current format) is to insert a weight class between 171 and 189..... 145 155 165 175 185 195 215 285
  15. I heard Harper made scratch at 125....is he wrestling here or at 130?
