  1. Can someone post the individual match results?
  2. Yes it does. I know a few kids in Evansville that go to a public school not in their district, and they get bussed to the school, because they have taken advantage of the School Choice Program. I'm not sure exactly how it all works, but there are kids doing it.
  3. I was completely stunned reading this, but want to give kudos to the coaches of both teams, I think you handled a bad situation with class. I have been fortunate to be involved with a school that respects and supports the wrestling program, so I have never had to deal with these kinds of issues, and feel blessed. With the amount of talented kids coming out of the Indianapolis area, it's hard to fathom the lack of support these schools are getting. All sports should be given the same respect, for in each of them are student-athletes who are sacrificing to compete. Athletics gives them an outlet, keeps them busy, and prepares them for life, and the AD's of these schools should "move mountains" if possible to make sure they get their chance to compete.
  4. If a student is on suspension at one school, and then mid-season transfers to another school, I would think that the IHSAA should look into the transfer, because on the face of it, that situation seems to lead to the belief that the move is happening for athletic reasons (especially if the student resumes his season at the new school with no consequences). If there is nothing to hide, and the moves are happening for employment, hardship, or whatever reason, then there should be nothing to fear from the IHSAA. I read a rather lengthy post yesterday about giving these kids a break, and forgiving their indiscretions, and while I agree with most of what was said, there is also something to be said for making these student athletes face the consequences of their choices. If these moves are directly related to consequence-avoidance, it sends the wrong message to the rest of the student-athletes, in any sport, across the state. We spend their whole wrestling careers telling our children about the guts, determination, discipline, sportsmanship, performance, and sacrifice that it takes to be a wrestler. We chastise them for their weight and constantly push them to go harder, be better. Everyday in their wrestling room, they learn the punishment for getting pinned, poor performance, gassing - and they pay the price. We hold them to a higher standard, but that shouldn't only be on the mats. If these transfers are due to running from consequences, all I can say is, Man up boys, life doesn't get any easier.
  5. Yes, Robby Mallory stepped it up and placed 6th after Tim Scott was injured one week before the start of the tournament series....that was late 90's...man that spoke volumes for the depth of the wrestling room at the time...
  6. The reason he moved is of no consequence, and if it was for trouble, the last thing he needs is people all over Indiana talking about it - let the boy move on and focus on what's left of his senior season. Good luck to the Kief's on their big move and good luck to Dusty in the upcoming FL tourney series.
  7. Dustin Nosko was State Champ in 2003...I can't remember him getting bumped off Varsity @ any time, but I could be wrong.... Mater Dei has always been known for the strength of their wrestling room, whether varsity or JV, those boys are all in their busting their humps...traditionally, wrestle-offs happen on a weekly basis, right up until tourney time...this process is good, it keeps the Varsity guys from getting complacent - if they want to hold onto their spot, they've got to fight for it...plus, it gives the JV guys good experience/competition. Injuries and illnesses also play a part in what line-up any team sends out, on any given night.
  8. That's AWESOME! Hoping she makes it far ~ would love to see a female @ Conseco!
  9. Got to watch these boys at the Classic, class acts all the way. This was awesome ~ so happy for this family!!
  10. Don't know about Merriville's overall day, but I believe MD won against Hannibal 71-6, against St. Geniveve 65-7, and against Merriville 45-16.... I had several texts from the Duals saying that the reffing of the MD/Merriville match was terrible, long before the Boots/Berry match...and MD was winning most of those matches, so I don't think the comment was made as an excuse for Boots' loss. Now, the comment by "The Stick", was clearly meant to be a derogatory dig at MD...I could chalk it up to being a Castle fan (insert dig of your choice here), but refuse to lump one bad apple with the rest of the Castle people I know, most of whom have proven to be class acts...
  11. Kelley wrestled 130 for Central against MD...tough wrestler...and just a freshman, he'll be good for the Central program in the years to come.
  12. A friend sent it to me...I googled it and the only place I could find it was this link... http://renegadewr.tripod.com/storys/storys.html Don't know anything about the site. He said he got it from his boss who had a son who used to wrestle...gave it to him to send to me after he told him all about his chic friend who loves wrestling...sorry don't know more!
  13. With two wrestlers on the cover of the ESPN high school magazine this year...I think the edge goes to CP..hee hee
  14. I saw this and thought I just had to post.... What Is a Wrestler ? By Kenneth J. Nickischer BETWEEN the innocence of boyhood and the dignity of man, we find a conditioned creature called a wrestler. Wrestlers come in assorted weights, heights, and uniform colors, but each wrestler has the same creed: to wrestle every second of every minute of every period of every bout to the best of his ability. . . WRESTLERS are found underneath, on top of, countering, escaping, twisting, riding, and pinning their opponents. Teammates rib them, referees penalize them. students cheer them, kid brothers idolize them, coaches criticize them, and mothers worry about them. A wrestlers is perserverance in practice, strategy in sport, hope in a headgear, speed in sneakers, pride in performance, and the best of young manhood in uniform. . . WHEN your team is behind, a wrestler is incompetent, careless, indecisive, and uncoordinated. Just when your team spirit threatens to turn the tide of battle, he flubs a counter, gets taken down, misses a switch, or rolls to his back. . . A WRESTLER is a composite-he diets like an Olympic athlete, trains like a world champion, sleeps like a Chicago Bear, but , more often than not, wrestlers like a novice at Everglades High. To an opponent publicity man, he has the speed of a gazelle, the strength of an ox, the cunning of a fox, the agility of an acrobat, the quickness of a cat, the skill of an artist, and the ability of the Lehigh wrestlers-combined. . . TO HIS own coach he has, for press purposes, the stability of gelatin, the swiftness of a snail, the mentality of a mule-is held together by ace bandages, adhesive tape, sponge rubber, analgesic, and has about as much chance of wrestling in the crucial match as would his own grandfather. . . TO AN ALUMNUS a wrestler is someone who will never wrestle as great, pin as much, score as many points, counter as hard, fight as fiercely or generate nearly the same amount of spirit as did those particular grappers of his own yesteryear. . . A WRESTLER likes match films, trips away from home, pinning opponents, short practice sessions, hot showers, whirlpool baths. post-match gourmet delights, and the quiet satisfaction which comes from being part of a hard-fought team victory. He is not much for wind sprints, calisthenics, scouting reports, drilling, sitting on the bench, skin-ripping tape, or after match compliments. . . NO ONE ELSE looks forward so much to beginning the season. Nobody gets so much pleasure out of takedowns, escapes, reversals, and pins. Nobody else can cram into one mind a reservoir of moves designed to result in success each time they are tired. No one else dreams and sacrifices more to attain the coveted title-"State Champion". . . A WRESTLER is a wonderful creature-you can criricize him, but you can't discourage him. You can defeat his team, but you can't make him quit. Might as well admit it-be you alumnus, coach or fan-he is your personal representative on the mat, your symbol of fair and hard play. He may not be an All-American, but he is an example of the American way. He is judged, not for his race, not for his religion, not for his social standing or not for his finances, but by the democratic yardstick of how well he performs and sacrifices individuals glory for the overall success of his team. . . HE IS A HARD-WORKING untiring, determined kid doing the very best he can for his school. And when you come out of a gym, groaning and feeling upset that your team has lost, he can make you feel mighty ashamed with just two sincerely spoken words-"We tried."

  16. Yes, apparently, TN gives 2 lbs beginning on Christmas and, according to several of the parents, their wrestlers believed they got 2 lbs for the Holiday Classic.
  17. I'm confused as to why they would dissolve the program mid-season. Is he the ONLY wrestler at the school, or the only one who has significantly advanced in the state tournament series? If he is the only wrestler, and he wants to continue, I feel confident that the IHSAA will allow him to practice with another team and continue to represent his school...however...if the school does dissolve the program, it will, technically, no longer have an IHSAA sanctioned wrestling team...so how will that be handled?
  18. There was some confusion about weight allowances. Despite having a few not make weight, I think the TN team did the best they could, they went out there and wrestled, despite the setbacks.
  19. Not only was this a great article, the boys from UC and the coaching staff are top notch ~ great competitors and great sportsmanship.
  20. Thanks for posting ~ I have been looking for a complete set of clips!
  21. MD and Memorial wrestled a few weeks ago. The Frosh/JV did attend the Memorial Feshman/JV Invite on Monday, but did not wrestle Memorial (I assume because they had wrestled them previously). Wedding from Memorial won @ 119 (over Freshman Pierre) by fall, and Sandwith @ 215 by major decision (over Sophomore Collins) - this is where the 10 pts came from, MD won the rest...hope this helps.
  22. ESPN has the documentary series "The Season"...I read somewhere that they did one entitiled "The Season: Iowa Hawkeye Wrestling"...would love to see it...I found some clips for it on youtube but couldn't find all of the clips...
  23. My wrestler son and I watched this movie - it was OK. I think my son enjoyed Cena's fight scenes more than the wrestling scenes in the movie...but the plot was believable and sad in some aspects. On a side note, a remake of Vision Quest was mentioned earlier and I read an article that said that Taylor Lautner from Twilight fame signed on to play Louden Swain in the remake...this primarily came about because he plays a Pennsylvania wrestler in his new movie "Abduction" (according to the article, his mat rival in the movie is an actual Pennsylvania wrestler from Hampton High, Jake Hart.) There is a Facebook page entitled "Wrestlers Against Taylor Lautner" that currently has 1,397 members...so I'm guessing not everyone is hyped about his possible portrayal of Louden...
