  1. I don't know, Mr. Rat. The far, far more acdemic and scholarly urbandictionary.com sort of takes exception to your claim: According to The Chicago Tribune, Lake County is a included in the Chicago Metropolitan Area, but the TRUE region is located only in the Northwest area of Lake County IN; consisting of Whiting, East Chicago, Hammond, Munster, Highland, Griffith, Gary, and the North sides of Dyer, Shererville, and Marrillville. The South sides of Dyer, Shererville, and Marrillville along with St. John, Crown Point, Hobart, and Lake Station (aka Snake Nation) are only considered Semi-Region (People from there can still consider themselves “regionites,” but must bow down to anyone from the TRUE region).
  2. I am kind of nervous to ask this question to Mr. Da Rat... Respectfully, is Crown Point really da region? Or were they only annexed once they got really good a rasslin?
  3. What are/were some of the biggest? Not just usual rivals... wrestling specific. Crown Point and Brownsburg Delta and Cathedral Beech Grove and Lawrence North Others?
  4. Another B1G win or two would be huge. Purdue is a possibility? Michigan State? ...and Coach Escobedo really needs an All-American. I really think crossing that threshold will be a big deal for recruiting. Fingers crossed.
  5. The Rutgers win certainly helps some... or at least is something to continue to build on.
  6. For me the answer is simple. Unless you are old like me, people don't get the context of Lance Ellis' four year run. Before Lance showed up, there had not been anyone in decades who pretty much destroyed people like he did...except for maybe David Palmer from Muncie... Anyway, also note we didnt have the interwebs to see all the four timers from other states. It was a much smaller world then where we would have probably never heard of the elite kids from other states. Four timers were almost mythological. Consequently, his dominance was so much fun to watch.
  7. That's not an unfair point, but a World medal is a World medal. Thats a way big deal and no matter what puts him in the discussion. I'm still going with Escobedo with 1 more Indiana title, 1 more All-American finish, 1 more Big 10 title, an NCAA title, made a US team, and missed a bronze medal by a single point.
  8. Angel Escobedo has to be in the mix. 2013 World Championships 5th Place NCAA Champ 4 time All-American 2 Time Big 10 Champ 4 Time Indiana HS State Champ
  9. Just curious as I am way far removed from things... What is Lukas Tsirtsis relationship to Alex and Jason?
  10. Derf. Oh yeah. For sure he is very much in the mix.
  11. One could go woth the Mount Rushmore ranking system. I think most, if not all, would go with Lee, Howe, and Escobedo on the Indiana Wrestling Mount Rushmore... but who gets the fourth spot? Reece? Kelvin Jackson? Lefever?
  12. I get this, but I do not think Goldman ever went more than three years without an All-American, and every now and then there was a Hoosier in the finals. I remember when IU let go of Coach Mallory because he only made six bowl games in 13 years. The result was Cam Cameron, a few others, and IU didn't see another bowl game for I think twelve years. What's my point? I don't know. It just seems like the athletic department wants to do worse. I am a huge Escobedo fan, and I really hope this year is when he turns it around.
  13. Good grief. A whole page and more with more data than I could have imagined. Very cool. Thanks for pointing me there.
  14. Does anyone know which school lays claim to having the current longest consecutive appearances at State? Several years ago I think it was Frankin Central, but I am pretty sure that ended. Has anyone figured that out lately?
  15. So many kind words in these tweets. Even if you never knew Coach Loggan, seeing high schools from every corner of the state, from the smallest schools like Paoli to the largest like Carmel, come together in kindness and compassion really says something wonderful about high school athletics, Indiana, and what matters most...especially in a time of so much uncertainity and sadness. Take some time to read these...it might make your day. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/high-school/2020/04/13/indiana-schools-light-up-north-central-ad-paul-loggan-who-died-coronavirus/2986759001/
  16. Coach Loggan was one the best men I have ever met- a tremendous teacher, administrator and, more importantly, a role model of a husband, father, and friend. He truly was one of the good guys. His passion was obviously football, but he loved wrestling and was easily our biggest administrative supporter. Tonight literally hundreds of high school football stadiums across Indiana turned on their lights at 7:00 PM (game time) in his memory. Below are just a few. He will be truly missed.
  17. Any school staff/coaches who intimidate should be named and shamed.
  18. As I watched the broadcast tonight these thoughts popped into my head... 1. How hard it is to get that first state champ. I think four or five schools wrestled for their first state champion tonight... pretty sure they all came up short. 2. How hard it is to replace a legendary coach and stay competitive- What Shaefer and Schoettle have done is amazing. 3. It was awesome to see a Belmont wrestler back in the finals. 4. I will never get used to the absence of certain schools that were once icons in Indianapolis and state level wrestling. I hope someone can save them before they fade away for good. 6. I hope to see IPS schools return one day too. 7. Hearing Kevin Whitehead say "Maldanado!" Who didn't love that? It was kind of like time travel. Im sure there are more.
  19. In a suite with lots of adult beverages and good friends.
  20. Congrats, Coach. Three at West Point at one time is awesome. That must have been a great group of kids to work with every day.
  21. Thats impressive. I know Harvey has put together a very impressive career. Brandon Wright for sure did too. After that, who else? Sakon comes to mind but that a long time ago... Again, looking for solid, high level D1 careers.
  22. Again, if that interests you then you should absolutely start that thread instead of hijacking this one. Thanks.
