  1. There are alot of things that go into making a college "the right fit". Sometimes things just don't work out and a change of scenery is necessary. Galka & Cosgrove both worked hard for those scholarships, they earned them! If they felt that the schools weren't right for them, that is their business. It is a huge adjustment from HS to D1! Remember it is better to have tried and failed, than to always wander what could have been! Good Luck to both in whatever they do.
  2. Way to go Frankie! Congrats & Boiler Up!
  3. CONGRATULATIONS SAMMY! The Huskies are getting one Indiana's best. Good Luck, The McMurray's
  4. As you know Mike was a State Qualifier as a Freshman @ 130. His Sophomore year he had a pretty good season going but had a knee injury @ Regionals that ended his season. His Junior year he injured his other knee just a week into official practices. He skipped football this year and did some off-season practicing. He has been given a clean bill of health and is ready to take to the mat as Portage's 152#er. He is a great kid, hopefully he can stay healthy. It will be nice to have him back in a Portage singlet.
  5. North Montgomery Holiday Duals is a good one: Perry Meridian Carmel Warren Central Bloomington South Delphi New Pallestine North Montgomery Portage
  6. The Duneland does not, however The Post-Tribune (Region Newspaper) names a "Wrestler of the Year".
  7. Oh . I think you've made sure that Sean won't overlook Tyler. I'm sure his coaches and parents appreciate that as much as I do!
  8. The reason we "hash over it & over it", is because we can! This is a forum for people's opinion's. Good or bad, different or indifferent. We have the right to voice our opinions, just as you have the right to complain and be bitter. It's all good! As long as people don't slander others, theycan say anything they believe. In the end it all comes out at Conseco! And on a side note, this week we honor those who gave us these rights! Happy Veteran's Day!
  9. Sounds a little bitter to me!
  10. Hey devildog47959, thanks for being supportive of my son, and thank you for serving our country! Give em' hell in Afghan, but come home in one piece! Semper Fi and Happy early 234th Birthday Marine! Oohrah!
  11. The Spartans plan to redshirt Harper. He is behind Senior & defending NCAA Champ Franklin Gomez in the line-up. Franklin is Josh's training partner, not to shabby. Josh will be wrestling in Open meets like this weekend in the Eastern Mich Open & next weekend in the MSU Open. Sean says Josh is healthy again and feelin' good. I can't wait to see him back on the mat. GO SPARTAN"S!!!!!
  12. ;D The Big Ten Network Just released their schedule, here is the link: http://www.bigtennetwork.com/corporate/Network-to-Double-Wrestling-Coverage-in-2009-10.asp
  13. I believe "almost" every college team in the country put on duals at local high schools. They use it as a recruiting tool and to build a community fan base. It's great for the sport, take the sport to the fans. And Y2 is correct, most larger high school gyms are bigger than where most college teams wrestle. And I'm not talkin' small programs, major D1 schools routinely average 800 to 2000 in attendance. Iowa is the exception to the rule. And as far as Indiana is concerned, alot of the coaches I have talked to have said that they are starting to look harder at Indiana due to the success of some of alumni. Escobedo, Humphries & Howe just to name a few! Hopefully, if things work out, the Spartans of MSU can hold a dual at Portage in the future! Hey, a guy can dream can't he?
  14. As far as Portage; Mike Torres was a State Qualifier as a Freshmen, and was injured both as a Sophomore & Junior. But I believe he is wrestling this year. Also Dunefan must be be talking about Asst. Reggie Wright. This will be his 2nd year.
  15. That's incredible! They deserve alot of credit just managing those kind of numbers!
  16. I think you guys are talking about the entire program (high school, middle school & kids). I hate to be a doubter but 170 kids for a high school would be amazing. I mean there are colleges that don't have those numbers in football! Even here in Portage during our "hay day" we only had about 60 kids at the high school level. How would you coach 170 kids? The logistics issues alone would be huge. There is no way you offer quality coaching and have space at 1 practice. You would have to divide up practice times, etc. But even if it the entire program, 170 kids is great number.
  17. After a fairly grueling recruiting season, and visiting several colleges over the summer. My wife and I would like to announce that our son, Sean McMurray has verbally committed to wrestle for the Michigan State University Spartans! It was a long road, but in the end "we just knew it was right". MSU has a gigantic (5200 acre), beautiful campus. They offer studies in just about course of study imaginable, and are ranked highly in Education (2nd I believe) which is what Sean wants to do, Coach & teach. Great academics + Great tradition + Great coaching staff + a young hungry team = a no brainer! Sean loved the campus and got along great with the team & coaches. Sean is very happy and we are very proud! GO SPARTANS!!!!!!!!
  18. I apologize. I always thought Elkhart Memorial was a Catholic school.
  19. I don't think they have to recruit! Success builds its own "recruiting". Everyone wants to be part of a great program. Besides it's a great town and a great school! Crown Point is one of the fastest growing areas in "Da Region". It's not by accident!
  20. Seems to me that everyone has forgotten that Elkhart Memorial is a private school. I'm not sure what it costs, but I'm sure it's several thousand dollars a year. That along with the fact that area of the state has been hit harder than most by the economy (msn) and that his older brother is in college. Who can blame them? The Stahl family have the right to better their situation for whatever reason they have. Last time I checked that is why America was founded. Unless of course you complainers want to pitch in and pay their bills and tuition payments! As long as they go by the IHSAA rules (and it seems they have), God Bless Them! Judgement should not be passed until you know their situation, and you probably never will because it's none of our business!!!!!
  21. Triple B, that's not a bad idea. Folkstyle State for just Schoolboy and below. Cadets & Juniors have their JV & varsity seasons. Also I did say there were exceptions, but I bet if you statistics guys did the numbers. The overwhelming majority, especially in the Junior ranks are all IHSAA State Qualifiers/Placers! And as far as the cost of Fargo, unsure hore to do it, but other states do. Instead of looking why Indiana can't lower the cost, Indiana needs to find a way around the roadblock. Think outside the box. I know if this old Marine told my Boss that I can't, he would find someone who could!
  22. When I spoke of the waiver's, I was just tryin' to put the best team on the mat. Most of Indiana's best are all state finalists. I realize there are always exceptions, but you have to have some criteria. Being good at one style may not mean you are good at the other, but generally speaking it holds true. Look at this year's AA's. I believe all but 1 were State Placers!
  23. Give IHSAA State Placers a waiver straight to Fargo. I know my son wasn't healthy enough to participate in ISWA State or FILA Cadets. But he was healthy enough to go to Fargo. But the waiver process is a pain. However in the end his brother came home on leave from Iraq, which is why we didn't pursue it. Also I think making the camps an option may help. Or setting up area commuter camps. Overall, 15 days or so away from home and your normal routine is hard on a kid. Also pursuiting corporate sponsorship and/or fundraising to help with costs. And I agree with some people on here who have said that the Folkstyle season is to long. Let folkstyle state end the weekend after IHSAA state. Then get right into freestyle. That or lengthen out freestyle to early June. That means it would be right before the duals, Fila's and Fargo. Scheduling is everything.
