  1. And I'm as guilty as the next guy for responding to email occasionally. But that's just my frustrations. Others may find that to be no problem. I just see some folks busting their hump to get things done in some capacities and other things aren't there yet. That's why I mailed my form in. At some point, I wouldn't mind shouldering some of the load that they are carrying. I think that was the intent for me in joining. I'm not a big fan of "it won't ever change, so why try?" because it's the easy way out. I don't accept it from my kids either.
  2. What about those who have done that in the fall and heard no confirmation or received any information about their membership? I will say this. Coach Struck has gone out of his way to personally respond to my questions and concerns regarding the IHSWCA. Not all involved have been willing to do so. If it weren't for his efforts, my opinion would not be as positive. A team state tournament is a good thing, and I really enjoy the time spent on the newsletter. Good stuff for sure. Change is evident in the association, but simple things matter to a large majority of the coaches out there. Respond to questions. Take care of things that are cut and dry. That's how you start to get folks to "mail it in".
  3. To be quite honest, if we are waiting for the IHSAA commish to help, we're pretty much hosed. I don't think he can say places a priority on the health and well-being of each student athlete if he is not sympathetic to concerns about a weight management program. It will only be a priority when it either becomes too expensive somehow or if litigation makes it a priority.
  4. I say this quite often, but threads like this make it all the more relevant. If this many people have this many questions and there are multiple interpretations being used, is this really the best plan to manage the wrestlers' weights? There are a lot of smart people out there who could look at this issue and develop a simple, idiot (or sneaky cheaters) proof way to manage and track this data. I have talked to coaches that didn't even realize this was in place. If we seriously want to protect kids from cutting (or gaining for that matter!) too much weight, we need a better system in place. Take the questions out of it.
  5. Am I reading it right that the complete information is due the Wednesday after the individual regional, or February 8th?
  6. I like the idea, but for a different reason than Skinner. I struggle to fill the lower weights, but with 170, 182, and 195 I can wrestle one more of my bigger guys, which I always have more of. That's why, albeit maybe selfishly, I like the current weights. But, after talking with several other coaches, it seems there are a lot of teams that are the opposite and could use that lower spot to give good wrestlers the opportunity to compete. It's a best of both worlds while eliminating the even number of matches.
  7. Looks like a pretty impressive data process. Thanks to all involved in developing it. A couple questions I thought of. A) When calculating the data for the Genius Ratings, is there any way to account for teams that do not post any results? Obviously there are a lot that do and that should eliminate any team slipping through the cracks, but I wonder if that would affect other parts of the process (specifically sectional strength multiplers)? Can you post a contact for submitting forms (and maybe a link to the form) for injury adjustments? Looks like a plan is in place, which is more than is usually accomplished. Again, thanks to all who developed this.
  8. I think they do. I just am not sure that is what I would be concerned with this week. Does not receiving a wall chart diminish your championship? I understand that some kids like to have them as a memory, but that seems like a little deal in the big picture. One man's opinion though.
  9. Seriously? All champions deserve wall charts? Since when did the wall chart become the pinnacle of wrestling awards?

  12. Paoli winners: 106 Burton 195 Bostock 220 Cooper 285 Andry Paoli 12-7 on the year
  13. I think you should deduct points for them picking their own nicknames... Seriously, Colt and Trevor are very good wrestlers and even better kids. They represent their school well. Sometimes it's better to hang back and let others fight over a ranking, though. Winning the matches will bring them the credit they deserve.
  14. 170 - Campbell over King and Warren? Returning champ or how did that work?
  15. Thank you for the reply. I win!
  16. This can settle an argument we are having. Wrestler A and B have wrestled 3 times. A wins Match 1 and Match 2. B wins Match 3. At a conference seeding meeting, Coach A argues that they are 2-1 head to head so A has the seed. Coach B argues it's the last match that counts so B gets the seed. Which one is correct officially? Cite your source if possible.
  17. I think most football coaches who truly understand proper training and strengthening techniques would agree that wrestling has great parallels to football. I think the word missing from a lot of these statements is the word good. You said coaches sometimes tell their kids to lift and get bigger. You didn't say they were actually good coaches. You said the key was feeder programs or coaches. I would say good coaches or good feeder programs would be the key. Football gives me several upper weights, but I can't fill lower weights hardly at all. Those kids don't seem to exist in our town...
  18. That's awesome!! We didn't even have to have classed wrestling to accomplish that feat!!
  19. I'm wavering between two reasons. A) Underwood just dropped down to 160 and it's not clear where exactly he fits in quite yet with the rest of the group... or He put him there just to make you angry so you would post repeatedly arguing your point so this thread can pass New Castle for the SS Rankings Reply State Championship!!

  22. The new classes helped me as I tend to have more wrestlers from 152 and up each year. I would say for the last 4 or 5 years, our school has not filled the six lowest weight classes more than 4 out of 6 classes. I can't seem to find the little guys anywhere.....
  23. Paoli 54 Salem 18 Paoli 8-1
