    Franklin (OH) Invitational

    12/03/2016
  2. I understand that there may be some sort of "secret advantage" in not posting your full results..............but I wish more coaches realized how that hurts the sport of wrestling. In the summer when I'm checking on baseball scores, I don't just look at the score and say "Oh cool, the Reds won 6-3.......I'm not interested in seeing who pitched, who had hits, who scored runs" I want to know the details of the score!! I know that this may be looked at as an exaggeration, because I said "Reds won", but I'm just trying to provide an example.
  3. It's nice to see that more and more people are posting their dual results here.......................but when are we going to get more Individual results? It would be awesome if everyone took the time to provide these...........I enjoy looking at them, and I know fans and wrestlers enjoy looking at them.....
  4. Question for officials; I understand that there is not a governing body at the middle school level. Considering, the "wrestling/fight" shorts and compression gear are not IHSAA approved gear at this time (but seems to be on it's way to approval), would an official approve the gear to be worn at a middle school competition during this upcoming season?
  5. Thoughts and prayers from the Jay County Wrestling Family.............Sorry for your loss
  6. So sorry for your loss Coach Girod........thoughts and prayers are with the Woodlan Wrestling Family
  7. I would also..........but I do think that stating the starting weight ahead of time, would cause less issues. If the starting weights were published ahead of time, you would have less fan/parent complaints about not knowing 182 would be the starting weight class at Sectional, showing up late, and missing Phil's first round match at Sectional.
  8. I guess the question is if Elwood could realistically not be voted in, considering they have the exact same amount of points scored as two teams that are already in?
  9. I've read through the thread, and the intention for switching the starting weight class wouldn't necessarily be to have the best match last. The intention would be to give different weight classes the opportunity to experience more fan support.
  10. We already draw a starting weight for dual meets........ would we be able to switch the starting weights for the individual portion of our State Tournament? I've had the opportunity to coach a few solid Heavyweights, and I always feel for those individuals, because they see the crowd start to thin by the time they get to wrestle. I took a look at the Michigan Individual State Tournament, and it looks like they announce the starting weight ahead of time, and they do not go from lightest to heaviest. https://www.mhsaa.com/sports/wrestling Thoughts?
  11. Thank you. Again, I understand why the system is in place, and I appreciate the amount of time and effort that you and others have directed towards developing an accurate selection process. I am not wanting the Indiana wrestling community to continue to be content with this selection process. I have talked to more coaches that either do not understand the process, or do not appreciate the process, than coaches who value it. Working towards a weigh-in exemption(s) along with making the tournament more inclusive is the direction Indiana High School Wrestling needs to point.
  12. Coach, When will the Academic All State Selections be released?
  13. My point is that a system that is extremely difficult for the casual wrestling fan to understand, is not benefiting our sport. I understand that the "point" system is in place because of our current constraints, but I believe the IHSWCA's efforts should be directed towards overcoming those constraints and eliminating the current points system. Individuals outside of the wrestling world have enough difficulty understanding the sport of wrestling, and then we add a point system that is even more difficult to understand? How many kids that are currently participating in high school wrestling could legitimately explain how a team qualifies for IHSWCA Team State?
  14. Try explaining to your Semi-State Qualifier that because he placed 4th at Regional, he didn't score any more team points in the system, than someone who lost 1st round in their same Regional, and then telling him, that even though he went to Semi-State, he scored the same amount of points as someone who placed 6th in another Sectional. We talk over and over about "growing" this sport, I think the IHSWCA State Duals is an excellent event...........but the points system that it is based on, is not a positive for the kids that are going out on the mat and wrestling.
  15. I'm going to ask this question, and if nobody knows the answer, I will investigate it myself...........but for the sake of time: How did the Ohio State Duals function prior to the adoption of the tournament by the OHSAA? Were they given an extra weigh in(s)? How many stages did it have?
  16. Could you post your original proposal? Just one index finger at a time, vito................slow and steady
  17. I still think that best option would be to have a classed, all in event that spanned the course of 2 weekends.....................even in putting together a team tournament of this nature you would have to look at reducing the number of teams, not fielding full teams, for the sake of feasibility. Ideally, I believe, to improve the event, and the sport in Indiana, we have to work to move away from scoring a previous season's results.
  18. Just curious, do you think that we should include those team with 2 or less, in the classification? What are your ideas on improving this event? (Apparently, my typing skills are too slow, and Y2 already asked my first question)
  19. I agree with you, that I don't like the idea of telling struggling programs that they don't count. Is it possible that a coach that has aspirations for his team being considered the following season, would possibly work to make sure that he has that 7th wrestler in his sectional lineup come tournament time?
  20. I think an excellent point here is that Coach McCormick and those involved with putting the event together have been willing to take risks and improve upon the event. Kudos to them! I think it's important to have a constructive dialogue on how the event can be improved, and where the event is going. The more I look at Ohio's rules and guidelines, the more I agree with Fabio........an event that included all teams with 7 or more participants could be a step forward as far as including more, competitive teams and increasing the level competition, especially at the 1A level.
