  1. I agree. At Big 10s, I saw former #1 recruit Cody Gardner and he looked like crap from cutting weight all season. He was a 215lber in high school and looked horrible at 197. A year of cutting weight took the life out of him. If cutting weight doesn't help, why doesn't Escebedo wrestle 141? There is a difference between walking around weight and wrestling weight. But to cut to much, you are going to hurt yourself in the long run. Walk around weight you are in the weight room, eating all day, you are most likely in the 10-12% body fat range since you are in the weight room lifting and gaining strength. Wrestling weight, you are cutting out alot of the foods that you use to gain strength, and watching your diet a bit closer, and will be in the 7-8% range +- 1% on both. It is when you are cutting into the 4-5% range that you might start running into trouble, that is what is wrong with cutting to much.
  2. You can also go to ncaa.org and check out all the DI DII and DIII schools by sport. To find out about naia schools, you will need to go to their web site. You can also set up an account on cstv and select schools based on sports offered as well.
  3. Emily Sue passed away and Bubba called 911. The 911 operator told Bubba that she would send someone out right away. ?Where do you live?? asked the operator. Bubba replied, ?At the end of Eucalyptus Drive.? The operator asked, ?Can you spell that for me?? There was a long pause and finally Bubba said, ?How ?bout if I drag her over to Oak Street, and you pick her up from there?
  4. Simply hit the weight room so you are as big and strong as those kids at 152lbs. Once again, cutting weight does not make you a better wrestler. Y2, we found something that we agree on......I would always rather see a kid build himself up to the weight he is wrestling then cutting weight to get there.
  5. http://www.foeldeak.com/english/ringermattendecken.php# Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but here ya go.
  6. That might be the case, and I could agree with being older should make you a better wrestler with all other things being equal. At this years IHSAA stae finals, we had 9 kids in the 119-125-130 weight classes that were sophmores or freshmen, compared to 5 in the 145-152-160 weight classes, so in the lighter weight classes, you did have a few more kids that are younger. That is assuming that all kids were the same age when they began thier high school career. That is not what they said though. They argued that being larger makes you a better wrestler, not being older.
  7. 300 wrestlers for a greco tourney and they are done early enough for you to post a complaint by 12:30. I would say that is a pretty decent hour to be done by for that many kids. You have some new rules, which is going to cause things to slow down, with people questioning different parts of the rules changes, and refs doing their best to explain them to coaches and wrestlers. You have manditory rest periods, that towards the end of the event cause people to have to sit around and wait for the clock to move faster. I remember many nights having 2 or more kids in the finals just watching the clock and waiting. The refs are all volunteers, they attend clinics, they spend more time then most studying the rules book, and then have to try to figure out how that rule change will affect the match. To say they lack confidence and are unknowledgable is an unfair statement. From some of the other posts I see they had 5 of 7 refs that were blue shirts, this is a very high percentage, and one that far exceeds most any other local tourney that I can remember. Most people run a tourney and have 1 to 3 at most, and utilize the high school kids to fill in. These blue shirts are the same refs that are going to be at greco state, and like your wrestler they will have a better understanding of the rules by then, and how they apply them. As far as facilities go, anytime you put 300 kids, and assuming 1.5 spectators per kid = 450, plus refs = 7, and coaches =50, and tournament officials and workers = 50 that comes to 850-900 people, all trying to be as close to the mats as possible, and all trying to get in and out the same doors. It is going to be crowded.
  8. Why not all 3? I'm simply stating that some weight classes are just plain harder than others. Not everyone can be a standout in every surrounding weight class. If I had honestly followed the weight regulations, I would have been wrestling much larger kids at 140 lbs., rather than kids at 125 lbs. who are generally weaker and easier to control (and there may not be as much talent). Of course there is a point where you can lose too much weight and you will start to considerably decline in performance, but I'm not saying the more weight you lose, the more successful you will be. I dont think I can see the logic in this statement. I would say atleast this year, and in many years, the 119-125-130 weight classes had many outstanding wrestlers that were not only skilled, but pound for pound as strong as anyone. I dont see the logic that bigger makes you a better wrestler. I can see that having extra weight can make you stronger, but it does not give you any inherent extra set of skills. Please explain how a 145 or 152 pound kid is a more skilled wrestler then a 125-130 pound kid.
  9. I would argue that the weight management rules need to be strengthened. I have seen some kids that cut way to much weight, and suffered as a result. I personally feel that better conditioning and technique, as well as proper strength programs will help you more in the long run. Those that cut weight might have an edge early in the season, but as the season goes on, I think the kids that are not pulling so much weight feel stronger, and can go longer. I think they ought to do a hydration test at every weigh-in to make sure the kid is properly hydrated.
  10. Excellent video Mr. Pompei. It is not difficult to see that there is alot of talent there.
  11. I am also guessing that all of you Perry people will see for a fact that the apple did in fact fall a long way from the tree as far as wrestling talent goes in this family. Nick passed me by a LONG time ago. I am guessing by his second year on the mat. Even with my extra weight, I dont think I could take him in a fair match, but I still get to employ "dad" rules which means I get to do whatever I want to keep from getting tossed around by him.
  12. I would have to look to see who is at Moorsville, but that looks like a prety tough list of tournaments. I am assuming that you did not include conference tournaments, or County. I would have to believe that the county tourneys up north, and the Marion county tournament would both be up there, as well as the big MIC, and a few other conference meets that are meat grinders.
  13. The word we got was they were looking to make a name change since there are at least 39 areas in the country that are known as Tri-State areas. They had a benefactor donate alot of money to the school, and presto, name change. For those that dont know, they are located up in Angola Indiana which is in the northeast area of the state, about 45 minutes north of Ft. Wayne.
  14. Remember this phrase come late August.
  15. Uh NO!......Actually I will tell ya what, you raise $2500.00 for Breast cancer charity, and I would allow someone to see me in a singlet, and take a picture. You raise $3500.00 and I will step on the mat and wrestle. It would go in the books as the fastest pin for someone. I wonder if it is possibe to give up a pin during the hand shake before the match.
  16. I cant speak for anyone else, but when Nick went up there, he said he just felt right there. He knows alot of the kids on the team, and the coaches are quality guys that he respects, and he realizes that they are going to do it the right way. Work your tails off in the room, and more importantly they expect, and help make sure you get the grades you need, and complete your degree in 4 years. Coach Callahan has spent alot of time making sure he gets not only good wrestlers, but he has looked at the kids as well. He does not just talk to the kids, and the parents, he talks to the HS coaches, and a few teachers to make sure the kids he brings in are serious about their education. I felt more comfortable turning my son over to him then anyone else that we have talked to. That is not to say that the other coaches were not outstanding people in their own right, but something just seemed to click with him. Trine spends alot of time in the state making sure they get as many Indiana kids as they can, and the results speak for themselves. In 4 years, they have become a great team that was ranked nationally this past year, and has competed well against the teams that were in the top 10.
  17. A man staggers into an emergency room with two black eyes and a five iron wrapped tightly around his throat. Naturally, the doctor asks him what happened. "Well, I was having a quiet round of golf with my wife when she sliced her ball into a pasture of cows. We went to look for it and while I was rooting around I noticed one of the cows had something white at its rear end. I walked over and lifted up the tail and sure enough, there was my wife's golf ball... stuck right in the middle of the cow's butt. "That's when I made my mistake." "What did you do?" asks the doctor. "Well, I lifted the tail and yelled to my wife, Hey, this looks like yours!"
  18. And usually by September they are history.
  19. MISHCAVEFAN, I do believe my Phillies are the team with the most losses by any sports team, however I must admit, even we have won two world series since they have. And the other big thing, most fans of the Phillies have been alive for atleast one if not both of them. GO PHILLIES
  20. I used to root for Warren, and I suppose that I always will, but next year I will be rooting for Trine. So what do you guys think about a name change to Trinedad, might have to go with Thunderdad
  21. I thought we did this already at Conseco. We took the top 4 from each Semi-State and had them wrestle.
  22. 2592 participants 47 states represented 2592/ 47 = 55.14 per state. Since you cant have .14 kids, we will say the large class would be 56, and the small class would be 55 and under, so we would have been 3rd in our class. On the podium, but not champs.
  23. A driver is pulled over by a policeman. The police man approaches the driver's door. "Is there a problem Officer?" The policeman says, "Sir, you were speeding. Can I see your licence please?" The driver responds, "I'd give it to you but I don't have one." "You don't have one?" The man responds, "I lost it four times for drunk driving." The policeman is shocked. "I see. Can I see your vehicle registration papers please?" "I'm sorry, I can't do that." The policeman says, "Why not?" "I stole this car." The officer says, "Stole it?" The man says, "Yes, and I killed the owner." At this point the officer is getting irate. "You what!?" "She's in the trunk if you want to see." The Officer looks at the man and slowly backs away to his car and calls for back up. Within minutes, five police cars show up, surrounding the car. A senior officer slowly approaches the car, clasping his half drawn gun. The senior officer says "Sir, could you step out of your vehicle please!" The man steps out of his vehicle. "Is there a problem sir?" "One of my officers told me that you have stolen this car and murdered the owner." "Murdered the owner?" The officer responds, "Yes, could you please open the trunk please?" The man opens the trunk, revealing nothing but a spare tire. The officer says, "Is this your car sir?" The man says "Yes," and hands over the registration papers. The officer, understandably, is quite stunned. "One of my officers claims that you do not have a driving licence." The man digs in his pocket revealing a wallet and hands it to the officer. The officer opens the wallet and examines the licence. He looks quite puzzled. "Thank you sir, one of my officers told me you didn't have a licence, stole this car, and murdered the owner." The man replies, "I bet you the liar told you I was speeding, too!"
  24. Yeah we had a very strong club program back then. Almost all of those kids are gone now. BTW, congrats to Andre on a great run this past weekend. Looks like he has a great furute in front of him. I will be expecting to shake his hand next year on the floor at Conseco.
  25. No, because he was a signed athlete he will not even be able to have contact with any potentials until the NCAA has signed off, hopefully early next week. He will be starting the process all over from scratch. Timing may not be the best for this, but it is what he wanted to do. Any thoughts regarding timing? I know that the next signing period starts on April 8th. We certainly won't be on the front end of that! Steve is a quality kid, and a great wrestler. I am sure that he will land on his feet somewhere. Good luck, and I hope it turns out best for him. That was a gutsy descision, but the ones that pay off the most, take the most guts to make.
