  1. I thnk the key here is to have a good relationship with your kid, the coach, and your doctor. You all need to come to a descion that is best for the kid. Having said that, most kids are not going to want to cut a ton of weight, yes I know it happens, but after a short time, the kids will realize that thay are not near as strong as the season goes on, and thier body will tell them to eat.
  2. Obviously it is becasue they had stellar junior high careers.......lol
  3. Copied from the Trine University athletic web site. 11.07 - Thunder Individuals Impress at Lakeland Duals Sheboygan, Wisc., - Trine went 1-2 overall to kickoff the 2009-10 NCAA Division III wrestling season Saturday, but several individuals posted successful showings at the event. 4. Very nice Joe. I was up in the area the other day, and stopped in to check out the team. I was impressed with the stuff they were teaching. Keep up the good work of helping to expose some of the DIII schools we have that offer wrestling. We have some schools in the state with some very impressive histories for wrestling.
  5. Ok, 1st, let me say that I am glad to see that this topic has been taken over by well thought out comments and not your typical hit and run type of statements. I no longer have a son involved at the high school level, and I believe the last time he wrestled a girl was as a freshman. I do not have a problem with boys wrestling girls. I think we are geting two very different types of respect confused here. There is a respect you have for a fellow competitor that has the guts to step on the mat, versus the respect that we should all be teaching our sons to have for our, and your daughter. The respect that you have for a competitor is to go out, wrestle hard, and try to end the match quickly. After the match, then you can worry about the other. Like it or not, women are going to continue to wrestle, so we ought to do whatever we can to help promote their access to the sport and to do our best to draw more women into the sport. If you dont want boys and girls wrestling each other, then help bring more girls into the sport so they have their own events. For those arguing that some girls and boys only wish to wrestle each other for the "thrill" of it, that might happen at the Jr. High level, and I know for a fact that it has, but that is where you need to have strong coaches, and parental involvment. At the high school level, those things are going to go away very quickly due to the nature and difficulty of the practice. There are easier ways to get your jollies then going through the torture of a high school wrestling season.
  6. Some of these might be hard to fill up for most college teams Following is a list of the largest high school gyms in the USA. 7. He is a transfer into Warren central, he came from Arlington.
  8. I would think you would know a little about him yourself since every single post you have, except sarting one thread, has something to do with Thomas. I think we could aways let the season play out a little before the hype train get going to fast for any of the wrestlers this year. Capital City Classic should be a good place to gage where he and many other decent wrestlers are at the start of this season. I dont even have a kid wrestling this year in the CCC, but I am looking forward to going there to see some great wrestling at the start of the season.
  9. I am guessing that all 5 of them will have this question answered at the Capitol City Classic. That has always been a great tourney, and I see all of them being tested there atleast one match. Usually the challenge comes from Perry, but there has been quite a few quality matches from some of the other schools the last few years.

  11. Josh Williams from Mt. Vernon has moved back to the Warren district. He got his start at Stoneybrook middle school. At one time their team had Matt Moreland, Josh Williams, Brandon Wright, and Nick Odom as a 1,2,3,4 punch in the middle of the line up. It was a very cool thing to watch. i remember more then one meet where the oposing parents were just shaking thier heads after that group left the mat wondering what was next.
  12. Y2, dont believe any man that tells you that he is in charge of his house, he will lie to you about other things. Remember these phrases. Yes Dear I'm sorry You are right, as always Yes, I am an idiot.
  13. I saw this and I have to ask, do you mean good, or that they go in your teams way?.....lol. Sorry but I had to ask it.
  14. I say lets keep them in stripes, but lets make them horizontal stripes. that ought to help that beer belly look........lol
  15. Now that is a very cool idea. I would like to see the design on all of our teams for next year. It gets away from racing, which it has been pointed out here that it has been done, and it ties into our heritage as a state.
  16. I personally dont care what color shirts the refs wear, as long as they are wearing a shirt. Some of these guys have to be a scary sight on the beach......lol
  17. take away thre corn field, and maybe replace it with an Indy car, a NASCAR, and a motercycle, and this idea I like. Indiana is known world wide for its racing. You could even put in a midget car as well.
  18. So if you lived in the IPS system, you dont think there would be a difference if you transfered to Warren, LN, LC, Pike Ben Davis, North Central, or any of the other township schools? Not only would you most likely recieve a better education, you would have much better facilities as well. Warendad, Although I generaly agree with your posts, I have to disagree here. First, I've worked in IPS. There are plenty of competent educators in the district and students who take advantage of the opportunities given them. Education starts in the home. If it isn't valued there, it doesn't matter where you go to high school. Next, what about all the kids who are bussed to township schools? Unfortunately, many of them are not playing sports, not passing ISTEP, and not graduating high school. Is it really making a difference in their lives? Furthermore, the schools you mentioned may have better facilities, but how would you then argue the success of the Catholic schools who have some of the worst facilities in the Metro Area? Finally, despite these nicer facilities, they still face many of the same problems as IPS. Some of the worst neighborhoods in Indy feed into the districts you mentioned. You are 100% right, education starts in the home, and if the parents are not behind the kids, then not much can be done unless the kid is of such character to do it all on his own. However I know of one kid on the WC team that has had his life improved greatly by being part of that program. The kid is a great kid, but had no idea what was available until he came out here and saw what a moderate family life is like. He has decided that getting his grades where they need to be, and finding his way into college is something he wants for his life. Would he have found that at IPS, possibly. Did he find that out here, Yes.
  19. Again... I guess if anyone could give me one example where there was a extreme difference in the result of the Wrestlers life (for the positive) I would promise to not discuss this subject ever again. So if you lived in the IPS system, you dont think there would be a difference if you transfered to Warren, LN, LC, Pike Ben Davis, North Central, or any of the other township schools? Not only would you most likely recieve a better education, you would have much better facilities as well.
  20. One thing that I have found to be true......The older I get, the better I was.
  21. The great thing is, every part of the state has tremendous coaches, and as far as I can tell, they are all willing to help any kid no matter what school he goes to. I dont know if we have ever been blessed with so many quality coaches in our state at one time. This speaks to the quality of wrestling across our state. All the coaches mentioned before are great, as well as many that have not been mentioned. I mean really, if we only had 10-15 great coaches in the state, why are there so many teams represented at Conseco every year. SOme of that is due to the size of the school, some is the determination of the individule wrestler, but alot of it has to do with the coaching the kid recieves during his HS career. Some of the coaches are great tacticians, others are great motivators. All deserve our respect.
  22. Good coaches not the best you are forgetting Lance Ellis, Rob Miller and Jim Tonte, Matt Schoettle these are the four best coaches in the state. It will take a couple of years for Danny to get the program back and going the middle schools in Warren need a lot of rebuilding and the elementary. Roncalli will beat Warren I believe!! Besides Wright, Decker and Jones who else is there that is going to dominate? Wow! Newsflash: There is more to the state of Indiana than just Indianapolis! Would those be the places that slow you down as you drive to Indianapolis? ;D
  23. Wc will be fine. If Coach Williams can get 1/10th of the athletes walking around the halls of that school into the room, they will be great. Yes they have some problems with the middle schools, and elementary programs, but that will work itself out in due time. I think that bringing Danny back, Warren has said that being a tough team is no longer going to be enough. If and when Danny starts getting the kids out, this team can, and should be a monster. With the type and sheer number of kids available to the team, it could be the start of something very special on the east side of the city.
  24. There is a difference between hurt and injured. Hurt is just a temporary pain, Injury take time to heal. Hurting someone in a wrestling match is a good thing, injuring them is not. This is all symantics. I dont really think that anyone in here would be advocating injuring someone intentionally. Atleast I hope they dont, and if so, please get out of the sport.
  25. Congrats Troy, just goes to show that class and hard work do have thier own rewards. Not that you needed an award to know how well respected you and your program are around the state. Everytime we would wrestle a kid from your program, we knew it would take our best. Great coach, Great guy.
