  1. As a former CP wrestler I know how much emphasis Coach Vlink has on how his team should look and act, but with that said I would love for them to have say a championship singlet in which he inverted the colors a white singlet with red letters and red trim would look freaking cool under the lights at state.
  2. I got one for you: Someone will be upset about the seating at the Merrillville Semi-state ;D ;D ;D How about that one for going out on a limb.
  3. The rest of the state also has some major weather issues to deal with as well if the ice they are calling for comes through. The team regional may be in trouble as well as the individual rounds on Saturday. Should make for an interesting week if we get hammered by this storm.
  4. As a former football coach I have had the opportunity to coach a couple of kids that have done damage to their knees and every situation is different that's for sure. I remember a specific incident in which I had a kid come off and tell me that he twisted his knee and it did not feel right. We talked it through and we decided to go ahead and put him in for the next series. He came out said he could not do it and he was out for the rest of the game. He cheered on his teammates from the sidelines for the rest of the game and seemed to be OK and we assumed it was a twist or a strain nothing more. I came in practice the next day and found that he tore his ACL and was done for the season. So, as I said you need to have more proof before we pass judgment, plus as another poster pointed out he was sacked 50+ times this season and got up from them to play the game. So, I will wait to pass my judgment until all the facts are in place.
  5. Thanks coach for the response I appreciate it.
  6. Very interesting draw. Anyone know why they draw the team state rather then feed them in by region much like they do in football, basketball, baseball, etc? Not sure if there is any answer for that, but just curious.
  7. As of right now the state does not have open enrollment as it relates to public schools. You can choose to go to a private or charter school but then we start to talk about out of pocket costs as it relates to those types of schools. All in all is the whole plan by the state at this time is so vague and the fact that Mitch has total control of the government means he will get what he wants and as a result we will have to wait and see how things come out when we see the final details.
  8. I have seen a lot of topics about kids moving for one reason or another and make some teams around the state better then what they were. Well we better get used to that, because as the new education reforms start to take effect we are going to see more and more of it and there will nothing the IHSAA (what little they do already) can do about it. The voucher system and school choice will basically end school boundaries and kids will be able to transfer from one school to the next by basically saying they are going to another school for a different academic program or maybe even a better one. We have just seen the tip of the iceberg with this one and we will all have to what and see what happens as the new education reform is passed.
  9. I think the biggest thing for Lowell will be the other programs like Merrillville, CP, Portage and few of the other teams that they may run into that have multiple middle schools that feed into them. Don't get me wrong Lowell will be a very good team with their 3 years of dominance, but the thing they must deal with is when two or three middle schools come together to form one team they have twice or three times the kids with what would be consider varsity mat time at the middle school level where Lowell will only have one group that comes in with that mat time. I live in Hamilton County and we see it happen all the time with Carmel who has three average middle school teams that come together to form a very good high school team (probably would be better if they did not lose kids to Gurien and Cathedral but that is a family choice and nothing I want to get into on here). I will say this with the team that they have and the others still being good to very good it should make region wrestling entertaining for many years to come.
  10. That just totally put a smile on my face from probably one of the greatest movies of all time. Thanks guys.
  11. Lets see who everyone has in terms of the 8 teams that they think are going to state this year? I know that most would have CP, PM, and EMD but who do we think are the others?
  12. You guys are right Crown Point would have been nothing with out these lucky move-ins and they should just be ready to be an average run of the mill program once these kids are gone.
  13. Actually in 2007 you started to see some of the great Taft teams (Crown Points Middle School) were at the High School level and that is why they really started to to come on strong. Yes, I will admit in the late 90s CP was down in terms of a program, but as you can see from the list I posted they were still winning some sectionals as a team and still sending kids to state. So, with that said we have all seen teams go through up and down cycles and Crown Point is no different as it relates to that and the other thing that we really need to look at is when did the DAC really start to become somewhat of a state power in wrestling. Well from what I recall it was not until Portage started their run in the mid-90s and you started to see all of these wrestling schools pop up as well as the organization of the club teams and feeder programs and then they started to see major results. I have watched this shift from my days of wrestling in the dungeon at the old CPHS to what it is now. Times change teams adapt and that is what CP has done and I will acknowledge that these move-ins did help, but to say that they could not have done some of these things without these move-ins is crazy. Oh and one other thing Anthony Hawkens and Marcus Shrewsberry are products of the Crown Point system they did not move in so 2 of the 4 state champions are a direct product of Crown Point Wrestling.
  14. Wow do you truly believe what you all that you said in that statement because if you do you maybe the one we should look at as ignorant. First off I would like to point out that 12 of the 14 studs on the team that won the state championship were quote, unquote Scott Vlink trained. As for your comments about Coach Hawkins and what he did for the program well let me point out to you that when he ran the Team Lightning Club (the club program for Crown Point) he was also the assistant varsity coach for the high school program much like what Coach Rodreguez is now and let's see he also now runs the club. The Elementary program has been around since the time that Bill Hawkins wrestled for Coach Vlink and now is run by the former freshman coach Del Keutemeir. Now yes some families have moved in and provided a great boost for the program I am not going to lie there, but to say that where they are today is not due to the coaching of Coach Vlink is totally absurd. Let me also point out that there is a rich history of excellence at Crown Point High School which I know for a fact because I was there during some of the early excellence and would like to say that I am still sure that the Dogs would still have been a force in the state because of what they learned from the teaching and coaching of Scott Vlink. 15. That was what I was trying to say as well Tenn. but it seems that it has fallen on deaf ears.
  16. What happened with Jake Fuqua was he sick or hurt?
  17. Sorry still not buying it when you come on here and say I am not questioning something and follow it with a BUT that means you are questioning something. So, try and spin it any way that you want this thread was designed for one thing and one thing only to bash a kid and in some cases the decision of a coach and as a former wrestler and coach in my opinion sorry to say its not right.
  18. I am sorry to say but I feel this thread is totally absurd since you say you do not want to bash a kid and yet guess what that is exactly what you did. The thing is with the exception of last nights meet when will Kral wrestle Berry this year? Probably not again since Berry wrestle 189 and Kral is at 215. Also, I do believe when CP wrestled Franklin they started in the upper weights (I am not 100% about this but I thought that was the case) and maybe the coaches were looking at the whole picture rather then what the fans want to see. Sorry to say but this thread and others like it truly make me mad when you question a kid rather then looking that there may be more to it then just wanting to see a good or great match.
  19. I am going to say both because when it comes to these two teams it will take every ounce of blood, sweat and tears each team has to win this battle, scratch that I mean WAR!!!!
  20. If I do recall the Pirates have had their fair share of move ins through out the years as well.
  21. I thought that Jake Fuqua was at 135 and I think he only has 1 loss on the season, it would be interesting to see what happens.
  22. Good Read. http://rise.espn.go.com/wrestling/articles/2010/12/01-IN-Eric-Roach-and-Jason-Tsirtsis-December-Mag.aspx
  23. I remember going the year that CP won the title and I showed up during the second round all ready to pay and all for both me and my daughter. When I went up to the ticket taker to get a ticket she told me that they had run out of tickets and to go ahead and go on in. So, I was happy that I could see the event that day for free, but I am also wondering how many other times this has happened and if it is about money how much it would cut into the profit for the day.
  24. Please Read!!!! I know that this is in the other topic about team state, but this is a good read and may shed some light as to what is going on with team state. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=201011150314
