  1. Why did the Twin lakes team leave the school prior to the 285lb award presentations? I realize their 285 lb wrestler only placed 4th, but it would have been nice if they could have stayed the extra few minutes to allow the champion to have his picture taken with all the others in the weight class and to allow the TL hwt to receive his 4th place ribbon. Just seemed kind of strange to me.
  2. I have a couple of issues with this new procedure.... It is my understanding that we only need 6 qualifying weigh ins for sectional and one of them had to be at scratch weight prior to the new year. Expecting any teenager to only lose exactly 1.5% of body fat per week is somewhat unrealistic. I have had several wrestlers in the past who, despite my best efforts, lose weight at a faster rate than the 1.5% per week (especially early in the season). Even though they could ultimately get to their minimum weight in time, they often fluctuate a little during the season. I was instructed by Bobby Cox that my "ahead of plan" wrestlers could still compete in the weight class even though it was ahead of the weight loss plan. I just could not count it as a "qualifying" weigh in for the state tourney series. If a wrestler is ahead of his plan, should we then force him to move up a class? Since he then has to move up a class, can he then wrestle up two classes beyond his actual weight? Does not seem safe! Are we now expecting tournament directors to verify every wrestler in a tourney or super six according the the teams alpha report? Additionally, my alpha report does not print the same info that is on the individual wrestlers weight loss plan sheet. -an example. I have a wrestler that weighed in at 122.5lbs. on 11/10/12. According to his individual weight loss plan he can lose 1.836lbs. per week, which would mean he could wrestle 120 after three weeks. However the alpha report shows that he cannot wrestle 120 until 12/13? Makes little to no sense to me. I am a lay coach and do not have access to the AD's system so our athletic trainer handles all the hydration testing and body fat analysis. Anyone else having these kinds of issues?
  3. Sorry for the duplicate. Y2, can you delete this post, please? See the one from buscowrestling.
  4. Busco: Just saw this too. Seems like a waste of time and effort to me. I too am confused by it.
  5. Anyone else see this e-mail indicating that we are to provide the Alpha report at weigh-in? Why do we need to do this now? We only have to have 6 qualifying weigh-ins with one at scratch weight before the end of the year. In my opinion this document serves no purpose. Have never been asked for my Alpha report at weigh-in and see no reason why it would be required.
  6. No intramural wrestling at BSU this year. Call and complain!
  7. I doubt the official would have or could have caught this. He probably called for the 113lb. class, and the kid stepped on the scale making actually the 106(108lb) class. The official would have no way of knowing the weight class of each participant in an 11 team sectional! This was probably just an oversight by the head coach.
  8. They will be going home in boxes from a lot of wrestling events too. That's highway robery! Sheesh.
  9. It's on record as coming from Terry Tipton. If that is not your name it is not on YOUR record. Time to step up as a man and post your name or Y2 will do it. formerwrestler (Cal Warner)
  10. I have read this thread and am disappointed in the lack of confidence in Coach Peckinpaugh in particular and coaches in general. I have known Coach Peckinpaugh since the late 70's and aerly 80's and he has never given me any reason to question his honesty, integrity, or commitment to his wrestlers and the sport of wrestling. His explanation mentioned that at best he only had 10-11 wrestlers in the line-up most of the season. Given the challenges we coaches face daily, I don't think it is too far of a stretch to see why only 6 wrestlers were available for the regional, last evening. We all know that one wrestler is ill and unable to compete. There are a multitude of other reasons why the others were not able to compete. A few that quickly come to mind are: skin issue(s) that have not satisfied the IHSAA minimum treatment time periods, but will by the time the individual regional comes around on Saturday, other health or injuries, school or team discipline issues, and/or academic issues. I don't blame Coach Peckinpaugh one bit for not detailing his team issues on a public forum. His explanation is good enough for me and should be for you all. After all, we are talking about kids, not adults. I can appreciate his desire to keep the issue(s) private. He obviously cares for his kids and has given countless hours to Indiana high school wrestling. Can't we give him the benefit of doubt without all this crap on a discussion board. Some of you people on here continue to amaze me. Best of luck to all this weekend. formerwrestler aka Cal Warner Tipton HS.
  11. FYI... Was able to get access using Internet Explorer, but not with Firefox. Thought this may be helpful to others. Regards, formerwrestler
  12. Rex- Tried it again this morning and not up again. Thanks,
  13. You can also figure it out if you know the other sectional in your regional. sectional A vs. sectional B 1st A vs 4th B 2nd A vs. 3rd B 3rd A vs 2nd B 4th A vs. 1st B Hope this helps.
  14. Sorry to learn of your loss! Must have been a great guy. Thoughts to you and your team.
  15. Montrail Johnson TC 2011 5th place at state.
  16. Agreed! In the last 5 years there have been several wrestlers from the smaller schools in our sectional that made it to Conseco. It's ignorant to count someone out based on strength of schedule alone.
  17. I tried using the on-line option this morning as well, but it was not working.
  18. Coaches got 'em last night. Check with your coach.
  19. Look for Frankton to be in the mix too. They are very solid.
  20. Heard this pearl this year by a coach.... Not happy with his wrestler on the mat: "I didn't come all the way up here to see you embarrass yourself!" Just so happened that the crowd was really quiet at that time, and I think the one that should have been embarrassed was the coach saying that to a kid.
  21. Gotta admit, I have done this one! Kids seem to get confused on right & left during the heat of the battle.
