  1. I count 11 duals and the Big Tens...that's not too bad but could be sooooo much more!
  2. You got it, Mitch! Riding a 29 straight dual meet streak over 2 years...hopefully we can pull it off again.
  3. A great night of wrestling at M'ville tonight! Special thanks to Coach Swanson and Coach Padilla for their accommodations. Lowell Middle School 102 Merrillville Pierce 24
  4. The "REGION" (Lake and Porter Counties) have always wrestled middle school from mid-October through Xmas. The rest of the state wrestles later on...
  5. Opening night for region middle schools... Lowell Middle School 82 Hobart 30 Hobart has 5-6 very solid kids along with Scotty Sopko who is a total stud!
  6. Cameryn works extremely hard and is a GREAT kid! Congrats Cam!
  7. LeeAnn Sheets is an 8th grader at Lowell Middle School. She has wrestled on our middle school team since 6th grade. She went 2-1 at the Lake Central tourney last Saturday, her loss was in overtime.
  8. I'll take a stab at 103lbs... 1. Stevan Micic 2. Josh Fuqua 3. Santo Marciano 4. Sarah Hildebrandt (Also-----Max Buckley and Kayla Miracle could be in the mix)
  9. I have been hearing about the disbandment of the TEAM STATE for awhile now, as Coach McCormick stated...it's a done deal. We can debate about this until the cows come home, the bottom line is: IT'S OVER. Wrestling will NEVER be viewed as a sport of importance in Indiana as long as the culture of the IHSAA continues to be narrow, stubborn, and ignorant. Unfortunately, fellas, they could care less!
  10. Nate Cleveland is in Bloomington; he'll be enrolling officially at IU for the 2nd semester. He'll be wrestling HWT for the Hoosiers, next year.

...well, I guess emailing DOES WORK sometimes! Shortly after I posted about this, I decided to give it a shot and email the tournament director for the USAW preseason nationals. Brian Keck is the director. I emailed him and he quickly returned an email back to me stating, "I was just thinking about this issue and I am going to increase the middle school periods to: 1 1/2-----1-----1. The HS periods are 2----1----1. NICE!!! (Hey, I'll take an additional 30 seconds of wrestling!)

I like the tournament format, etc. but to have schoolboys wrestling 1-1-1 is ridiculous! I know that Coach Willmann is taking a group from Lowell but to me, USAW needs to increase the period length for this age group. I have been to the Midwest Nationals during the summer and I stopped going for this reason...there is a lot of riding the line, stalling on top, and the officials won't call it! Not to mention a long drive for such short periods. 1-1-1 for the championship side of a national tournament is not right. Just my opinion. With that said, we still might go...we are still undecided.
  13. You are correct, Y2, Illinois does have a multiplier...it did survive the lawsuits filed by Providence and others in the Chicago Catholic League. They currently have 3 classes for wrestling and Montini (National Power) would be a Class A school but with the multiplier, they are 2A. In their case though, it doesn't matter, they are the tops in most years over there.
  14. The best of luck, fellas! http://sites.google.com/site/regionwrestlingacademy/staff

  16. Let me guess? This post was brought up to the front due to both Hawkins and Bradley being teammates now at Cal College and are probably in the room working hard...and this is Bradley's way of "having a bit of fun" with Hawk? Am I close? haha
  17. I agree! We had quite of few people from Lowell going down this year! I hope it's a mistake!!
  18. That's the most interesting thing about it, CP doesn't have to recruit. First, if you know Coach Vlink like I do, he doesn't believe in recruiting, he's old school to the bone! Second, when you have a city/school system like CP, no offical or individual coach has to recruit..it literally sells itself---top notch academics, facilities, and support...not to the mention the fact that the ROOM sells itself, no one has to recruit anyone for them to know that having Tsirtsis and Roach in the room will help bring any wrestler to the next level. CP is our biggest rival and if I thought or observed recruiting going on, I would definitely say so but if you have never been to CPHS, go for a look...it's a freaking Taj Mahal, any parent would want their kid to attend that school. I have always been of the thinking..."don't complain, just beat'em".
  19. Alright, might as well let the cat "out of the bag" since this is just a RUMOR but this is what I have been hearing... 1. CP will inherit the FUQUA brothers, Jake and Josh. Jake is a Junior and Josh is a Freshman...both are very solid and well known wrestlers from Illinois. They would have attended Bloom HS in Chicago Hts so the move to CP is definitely a huge step up in all avenues of their life....and I can personally say I know the family----a great bunch of folks! 2. Jarred Brooks has enrolled at Crown Point HS. That's the rumor going around the region...it may be false but that's what I am hearing from several people.
  20. OldDawg, I can tell you this, we are still the same ole, same ole...we are going to run right at ya...ISO, ISO, ISO...and the key for us is always a great offensive line and a great defense. We always have good backs but it's our line that is the key. Our philosophy hasn't changed, Coach Kennedy may have left but the rest of the staff is here (for the most part) and we may pass the ball more than 3 times a game now, maybe 4 or 5 times a game!!! LOL... As for the Lowell/CP game? Anything can happen when two rivals mix it up! It should be exciting!!
  21. I totally agree with you guys...but on another note, what about his win vs. the California kid? That CAL kid was a state HS champ in a single class state and in the Top 5 nationally....and Hall is a 7th grader? That's just unbelievable... I agree though, this scenario with Hall takes it to a whole new level. This reminds me of the Illinois kid who just won Cadet Naationals at Fargo. He is originally from Utah, moves to Ohio to train with the Jordans and then moves to Illinois because apparently the old man got into it with the Coaches so now I heard he is enrolling at Montini Catholic in Lombard, IL. Can you say Hardcore? Some people call me Hardcore...hahaha...but that's insanity. (not to mention the money being spent)
  22. MAYBE NOT, if you read this article! http://www.mlive.com/sports/flint/index.ssf/2010/06/davison_middle_school_wrestler.html
  23. My guess? Hall...from Michigan via Kentucky. Just a stab in the dark!
  24. This is what I have been hearing but this is all "RUMOR"... It appears that CP will be enjoying some move-ins down US 30. Two move-ins traveling EAST down US 30 to CP (from out of state); the other traveling about an hour and a half WEST down US 30 to CP. RegionRat1, It could have been better, could have moved 7 miles to the south to Lowell!!!! hahaha
  25. OldDawg, No wager since I am coaching with the boys that night but you do understand that we are bringing our VARSITY right? Now, if we brought our J.V., it would be a better game. hahaha Seriously, it should be a great game, the longest rivalry in the State of Indiana. No love lost betweens these two squads! Re: wrestling, it appears that the Dogs have bolstered themselves nicely at 103, 112, and 119 (potentially). A great room, school, and community is very attractive; Illinois folks migrating over here every day to CP and Lowell.
