  1. What I would like to see is having a middle circle, with an outter circle. Kind of like a warning track that's in baseball, or the passivity zone back in the day from freestyle. Anytime a wrestler enters this "warning" zone, he has 5 seconds (or whatever) to circle out of this zone. If he doesn't, he gets dinged for stalling.
  2. I made a comment in another similar thread saying that I thought Indiana was bringing most of their top seniors. How many of Illinois' top seniors made it to this dual? Who was missing?
  3. Indiana wrestlers representing well it seems. Nevermind winning both duals, when has the last time Indiana won the "AA" dual? I remember us getting waxed pretty good in this one yearly.
  4. Offer Joe a schooner and see what happens! Just tell him your for class wrestling. You'll be on his good side for life. ;D
  5. Looks like we're sending many of our top seniors, which is a good thing. Going off memory, it seemed we had a hard time getting them to commit to this dual in years past.
  6. Personally, I'd rather have the head coaches mic'd not the refs. It'd be cool hearing Brands, Smith, or whomever yelling out instructions or letting the ref have it. With the refs all you get is, "lets pick up the pace" or something to that regard.
  7. It's the person they're opposing, not the stance.
  8. Alot of people are up in arms over on themat.com about Apple Valley being ranked ahead of Blair Academy. I think it's kind of funny.
  9. Here are a couple scenarios you could do. 1) Conference Champions qualify for the team event. A problem I see with this is that every team may not be affiliated with a conference. On top of that, each conference may run their tournaments differently. 2) A separate Team Sectional and have it span over 1 week. Saturday - Team Sectionals, Wednesday - Team Regionals, and then next Saturday - Team State. The issue I have with this is that there's alot of wrestling being crammed into 1 week. But on the other hand, if you span it over 2 weeks. It wouldn't be really fair to make the teams that don't advance wait 2 whole weeks to wrestle Individual Sectionals.
  10. There was another thread titled "state champ tossed" or something like that. It involved Taylor March at a practice. The thread title is hinting at a state champ being tossed, not necessarily the same state champ though.
  11. How does a wrestler avoid injury by moving the whole thing to the end of the season? Wrestlers aren't susceptible to injuries during the regular season, sectionals, regionals, or semi-state? As for your comment suggesting get rid of it... umm wow. I take it you've never been to team state, or maybe team regionals for that matter.
  12. That's why I think it would be in our best interest to move Team State prior to Individual State. By the time Individual's over, majority of the wrestling community is ready to pack it in. If wrestled prior to Individual's, I think Team State would have more interest because all of the wrestling community would still be in "season mode."
  13. You know what grinds my gears... That itch right in the middle of your back that you can't reach. AAAHHHH!!!
  14. So do the refs like the new rules more or less than the previous rules?
  15. I got the impression that interest on the site took a nose dive as soon as Individual State was over. Maybe Y2 can confirm if this is actually the case or not but I digress. Assuming that this is true and that there's a correlation with interested from the Indiana wrestling community. Would it be beneficial to move the Team State series before the Individual State series? I know there are some hickups like how to qualify teams. But in theory, would it be better or worse? Another idea I'd like to throw out there was doubling the number of State Finalists. I know wrestlebacks gets proposed everytime and it gets shut down everytime. Has expanding the State Finals ever been proposed?
  16. You mean this horse? or this one? or maybe this one?
  17. I think the freestyle/greco rule changes had a big impact on turnout numbers in my opinion (although having more folkstyle tournaments has contributed to the fall off as well). I too for a long time, didn't like the idea of the stepout rule or the best of 3 period format (mostly out of ignorance). It was when I watched the Olympics this past summer that made my opinion do a 180. The new rules have created more scoring opportunities and the match times are cut down drastically. I remember watching some matches on youtube. pre-new rules. Alot of the times the matches go around 10+ minutes. Now, matches are done between 6-8 minutes. I think quicker matches are good for fans, especially during tournaments. I'm also of the opinion that freestyle (never really wrestled greco) helps your mat awareness. It helps you learn to keep your hips facing the mat, since exposure points are more prevalent. So if you're tough to turn in freestyle/greco. I'd think you'd be just that much tougher to turn in folkstye. I just wish wrestlers would see the benefits of it and try it out. But then again, this is America and we don't exactly turn on a dime because the rest of the world does.
  18. Well this wouldn't be fair, because classless supporters would out-man class supporters 3 to 1. On second thought... I LOVE THE IDEA!!! ;D
  19. By just looking at the thread title and the number of posts in it, you'd of thought that there was alot of people actually interested in how much success Indiana wrestling had at Big Ten's... Until you started reading the actual posts.
  20. Would the school your kid goes to be classified as big or small??? Sorry couldn't resist.
  21. I'd call him a manipulator anyway, not the great manipulator. ;D
  22. I do I know, I saw the same response. I'm just kind of disappointed that we've gone into another class debate when the thread starter was congratulating Indiana wrestling for having a successfull Big Ten tournament (the studs anyway).
  23. Funny, I don't see anything mentioned here about class wrestling.
  24. Why are duals and tournaments scored differently? I kind of have an issue with this because there's more value for bonus points in tournaments compared to duals. Examples... Major Decisions Duals - 1 bonus point - 1 of 4 total points (25%) Tournaments - 1 bonus point - 1 of 3 total points (33.3%) Technical Falls Duals - 2 bonus points - 2 of 5 total points (40%) Tournaments - 1.5 bonus points - 1.5 of 3.5 points (42.86%) I'm just using scoring of the championship rounds of tournament scoring. For the consolation rounds, bonus points have even more significant value. For some reason, it kind of rubs me the wrong way. It doesn't matter to me which scoring system is used, just pick one.
  25. The region is comprised of multiple counties though right? Don't take me too seriously, just giving you a hard time.
