    That said, with NIL money in play, it will take a larger financial commitment from the university, as you basically have to bid on top level talent now. Michigan went out and bought themselves a pretty nice team this year.

    Ever is a long time. Penn State's last national championship pre Cael was 1953. This paragraph is copied from a site called "Onward State". It's understood that the college recruiting landscape is different now. IU basketball, now on hard times, was once a national powerhouse. It will return eventually. Wrestling can get there, too. Penn State was in a rut before Sanderson arrived. The long-underwhelming Nittany Lions were coming off an 8-12-2 dual season and a 17th place at the 2009 NCAA Championships. Just the year before, Penn State had placed third at nationals. However, that finish stands as an outlier and was the product of a remarkable run where everything seemed to work out in the Nittany Lions’ favor.     That's where my confusion came in, (watching on tv also). Ref never started a near fall count, because he knew it was an illegal hold (not arguing, I couldn't see that), yet they were in that position for a long time, nothing changed, then illegal hold is called.

    I found it on the mat 2 replay and watched it. That wasn't a legitimate wrestling move. Probably should've been stalemated in the first place, they were in that position too long.

    Rogotzke with a fantastic come from behind pin after whiffing on a cement mixer and nearly being pinned himself, to take 3rd @ 184. 2 champions, G Rooks and Fongaro. Lillard and Washington defaulted out. Sollars a hard fought 4th place.

    The Hoosiers send 6 wrestlers into the semi finals tomorrow. Fongaro, G. Rooks, Lillard, Rogotzke, Washington, and Sollars. If Gilcher were available, I feel like he would be in there, too. Anyone know the extent of his injury and likely return? Also Blake Boarman of the host UT Chattanooga from Mater Dei. Feel free to add any Indiana natives I might have missed.

    16 is just right. No need to water down the field just so more wrestlers (and adults) get the experience of making the finals. Getting there means that you are among the best in the state, don't lower the bar for the sake of "feel goods". That's an epidemic already.

    I watched it earlier. I don't know who did what, and I obviously can't answer Tom's question. Is does seem odd that if it (athletes wagering) is a major issue for the NCAA that they chose to come down on wrestlers, whom 99% of college sports fans have never heard of. I guess dropping the hammer on big name big money sport athletes might hit the revenue stream too hard. Also, I would bet (no pun intended) that Brands takes on a combative tone when simply ordering coffee. I've never met the man, but I think he intentionally makes people uncomfortable, probably so as to keep them at a distance. He makes me uncomfortable from here.
