  1. I believe there was a 5 pound allowance (132+5=137). I heard he missed that by 7 pounds. 137+7=144.
  2. How does this work since Illinois has 3 divisions? Is it Illinois (2A/3A) vs. Indiana 1 and Illinois (1A) vs. Indiana 2?
  3. I think that is legit. You could make arguments there. Personally, I think Langeloh and Garman are heavy favorites, but anything can happen Friday night.
  4. I've never really considered 1 to be several but that's alright. What four weights do you think are a possibility? You may be right, I just don't see it when I look through the brackets.
  5. Doors open at 5:00 pm according to the information posted by IHSAA. I believe you can purchase tickets in advance through the IHSAA website but I am not sure if that would save you any time.
  6. Just said it's a possibility - if I had to bet money, I would choose the 1 in all but maybe one of these matches. I just tried to go through the brackets and find the closest match-ups based on ranking and/or record
  7. Is this a serious statement? Maybe 2 or 3 weights top, but I don't know if that constitutes several. Possible 4 over 1 113: Johnson v. Wright (FW) 126: Dilbeck v. Mejia (FW) 145: Cowan v. McIntosh 160: Kasch v. Whitaker 170: Goerig v. Walton – I only say this because Goerig had a nice state run last year and pulled an upset or two at Banker’s Life 182: Hankenson v. Damler 285: McWilliams v. Perkins
  8. I was looking at the brackets and didn't see mat #'s listed. Is it first available or is there a simple formula to figure this out (i.e. top 2 matches on the bracket = mat 1). We are trying to plan ahead for where we would like to sit inside Banker's Life.
  9. Is this based on anything other than a gut feeling? I.E. recent results? A big win this year? Glogouski releasing a statement that he is wrestling semi-state with one arm tied behind his back? I think it's okay to make bold predictions, it just helps if there is some type of basis for your belief.
  10. 106: Curtis, Streeter, DeMien, Herring Match to watch: Streeter/Zadylak quarters and Curtis/DeMien semi 113: Mejia, Stephenson, Davis, Wright I think this could be argued almost in any order, the semis will be interesting. Don’t sleep on Liter, he could be the dark horse – I think his ticket round with Wright could be good. 120: Glogouski, Hunt, Langeloh, Mendez Langeloh/Hunt semis will be fun and the finals match will also provide some entertainment. 126: Mejia, Becker, Franklin, Davenport Like 113, this one is up in the air for me. No one stands out as a clear front runner. I’m looking forward to Mejia/Franklin 132: Doster, Luevano, Rhodes, Gunsett If Raypole is healthy, the first round could be the best 1st round matchup of the day. Rhodes/Luevano will be good 138: Coy, Rutter, Rasler, Brown I think Arney, Rutter or Brown could all be in the finals depending on who wants it the most come Saturday – this should be a competitive weight to watch 145: Laughlin, Eicher, Kerrn, Scott This weight could have the most intriguing 1st and 2nd round matches 152: McCormick, Levitz, Sturgill, Dietrich Most lopsided final. Ticket round between Levitz/Bates is the highlight here. 160: Garman, Busse, Harrison, Potter 170: Gray, Baumgartner, Ritchie, Johnson 182: Eli, Hankenson, Kohler, Blakely 195: Maddox, Evans, Elliot, Davis 220: Ellis, Paz, Davis, Pier 285: Amos, Mammolenti, Perkins, Hodge
  11. I agree with that, if you wrestled it 5 times, you'd probably get 5 different outcomes. Nance, Byman, Rushing, Richard, DeMarco - 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.
  12. Enough about spelling bees... here are some more predictions... 106: 1. Streeter, FWNS 2. Shearer, Garrett 3. Just, Carroll 4. Smith-Goheen, FWBD 113 1. Davis, FWW 2. Johnson, H. North 3. Wertman, Garrett 4. Jenkins, Homestead 120 1. Langeloh, CC 2. Nance, FWS 3. Rushing, Homestead 4. Richard, Leo 126 1. Franklin, Homestead 2. Standridge, Carroll 3. Ray, CC 4. Roemer, Woodlan 132 1. Doster, NH 2. Rhodes, Homestead 3. Raypole, Carroll 4. Hissong, Leo 138 1. Arney, Carroll 2. Woenker, FWBL 3. Kern, Leo 4. Parisot, Woodlan 145 1. Eicher, Leo 2. Capps, FWNS 3. Hicks, Carroll 4. Jiminez-Aguirre, Garrett 152 1. Miller, FWS 2. Dietrich, CC 3. Van Ooyen, Leo 4. Johnson, FWW 160 1. Garman, Carroll 2. Reed, CC 3. Potter, NH 4. Snyder, FWNS 170 1. Partin, Chur. 2. Burns, ES 3. Davis, FWCL 4. Garton, Leo 182 1. Clem, Homestead 2. Updike, H. North 3. Nix, FWBD 4. Armour, FWW 195 1. Davis, Garrett 2. Whitner, FWNS 3. Grossnickle, Carroll 4. Schindler, Woodlan 220 1. Davis, Garrett 2. Isaacson, Leo 3. Asher, FWCL 4. Kilgore, Chur. 285 1. Lawson, Carroll 2. Ault, FWNS 3. Gardner, H. North 4. Morua, Heritage
  13. That was just one example, I can think of a number of smaller schools that have always been able to compete with the larger schools. If I can win against everyone, why would I want to enter a tournament with lesser opponents and be given a consolation prize when I could have won it all? Oh... that's right, this is America, so we need to help the needy and disadvantaged so everyone is equal. Why give out 1 trophy when we can give out 3 or 8 or 15? So St. Mary Catholic School for the Blind can receive a bid for the 1A State Tournament, throw a big party in the local square which leads to a rejuvenated excitement for the sport of wrestling. Now everyone at the school wants to wrestle and all of our problems are solved. Div. 1 basketball should develop 2 or 3 more levels so a school like Butler can compete. I'm sure March Madness' popularity has nothing to do with the 'underdog' or 'Cinderella' stories. I know, I know, we are talking about Butler and they can recruit all across the country and I am comparing apples and oranges, but can't we do some 'recruiting' in our own communities? I'm not saying small school coaches/wrestlers/parents/fans don't care about competing - but if we were really driven by 'making the sport better' - does the state tournament make the difference? I'll end here because I am sure most of you have tuned out. I work to make the sport better because I am convinced it is one of the best tools to help young men develop. I know they can experience things through the sport that they will not experience elsewhere. If the state tournament changes, it won't make me any more or less motivated to get young men and children involved in the sport. A trophy or title has never been the motivation and if that has become our motivation, maybe we have found the real problem with the sport.
  14. Pride? Honor? I know teams that haven't competed at a championship level for a number of years but the coaches and wrestlers show up every day and bust their @$$. Even if there is a classed state tournament, South Side (historically speaking) will not be in the running for a title. Regardless of how the state tournament is run, coaches and schools should have the internal motivation to put their best foot forward and field a complete roster. Personally, I don't think the size of the school matters. Bellmont has historically beaten every size of school, destroyed teams in the NHC that were 2 or 3 times their size. This isn't football or basketball where we rotate guys off a bench. Yes, depth matters for a number of reasons, but small schools can compete and some big schools suck. It doesn't matter if they are 2,000 kids if you can't find 14 that want to wrestle. The responsibility is the same at each school, find kids, field a roster, if the roster isn't full, go find more kids and eventually you breed a culture and a community that can compete. Instead of pointing the finger and looking for the path of least resistance, find a way that is within your control to make the most out of the current system.
  15. Even with 10 wrestlers, they still have the most regional qualifiers according to the seeds. Most of the teams at the sectionals don't have full rosters. Below, I provided two numbers - the first number is the number of wrestlers entered, the second is the number of wrestlers seeded in the top 4. If Leo doesn't win it, I don't know who does. I will put it out there as a dark horse - Woodlan? Luers – 10 / 3 Snider – 14 / 5 South Side – 12 / 3 Wayne – 13 / 6 Heritage – 10 / 3 Homestead – 13 / 7 Huntington North – 12 / 6 Leo – 10/12? (They have heavyweight in the bracket) / 9 New Haven – 14 / 6 Woodlan – 12 / 8
  16. Has no forfeits at 106 or no wrestlers at 106?
  17. So the SAC would beat Carroll, lol. Carroll - 214, SAC (Concordia, Dwenger, North Side, Northrop) - 292. And that's only half of the SAC. Can you run the numbers for New Haven if you get a chance?
  18. I wish the SAC was poised for a breakout year but it's not going to happen in the immediate future. I appreciate your enthusiasm Ursula, but you certainly aren't the first person to take interest in the area, these schools, these kids in an effort to rebuild the state of wrestling in our city. It looks like Concordia is improving and I don't know their program intimately so I can't make any educated statements but I'm guessing it has something to do with the presence of feeder programs. Snider is on the decline and have been since Ester and then Early left. They started a feeder program through Blackhawk and I don't think it has had the results they were hoping. Dwenger isn't as strong as they once were. I am not sure how many kids are still wrestling in the offseason for them but it used to be a ton. Wayne had a nice surge a few years ago but some things have changed since then and I don't know that they can do that again. The other schools have a wrestler here or there pop up from time-to-time but nothing consistent. Until the SAC can fill rosters and develop good competition, the problem will remain. Good individuals - no depth - no team that can compete on a broad level. I think my biggest point of contention is all the talk about what you're going to do and how great it's going to be. If I look back over the history of the SAC and the guys that you mention - Isaacs, Ester, Early, Burton, Tone, etc. None of these guys talked about it - they just went out and did it. And then, after they did it, they still didn't talk about it. Let your results do the talking - you're not running for office, you don't need to try and convince us of how great you are.
  19. How many weights will Carroll not win? Who are your favorites in each weight? Let's hear it! Can the combined SAC powers of Dwenger, Concordia, Northrop and North Side slow down the Super Chargers? We were told by reliable sources that this is the last year before a big SAC breakout so Carroll better get another title in before it's too late.
  20. Pick your champs! Who ya got? Any intriguing match-ups? I know who will get Ursula's vote for 'outstanding wrestler'.
  21. Oh... you were a volunteer at Snider? You must have been the catalyst for their success in the late 90s and early 2000's. You mentioned that I was irrelevant earlier. Here is my definition of irrelevant - quoting basketball statistics in a wrestling forum. Sorry that I'm not showing any love but I have a hard time respecting someone who just chirps from the bleachers. I've spoken one-on-one with coaches who have said you do more harm for their program than good. I'm sure that's just "the man" out to get you because they can't "think outside the box". The best programs at the high school and collegiate level have REAL leaders - not guys who shout and parade around a gym. How many times do you think Gable has gotten on a discussion board to tell everyone how good his team was? I think you're dealing with some sort of inferiority complex and because your results don't speak for themselves, you have to get on here with your megaphone and make stuff up so you can feel better and sleep at night. Like you said, spend more time at the grind stone and less time at the keyboard. I love the sport and think it would be awesome if the SAC had a revival but in my irrelevant opinion, that revival won't be led by you. Capps is a one-trick pony. I'll take Arney. I think the Carroll coaches are wise enough to scout his throws and instruct Arney on how to wrestle him. I also don't think SAC kids have the lungs to go 6 minutes hard. Their wrestling rooms aren't deep enough to get pushes on a daily basis. Arney has 4-5 partners that can push him every day. I'd also take Hicks over Capps. I think he is starting to peak and looks solid as a freshman.
  22. Ouch, that hurts. I just think your lofty expectations don't line up with reality. There are currently 4 wrestlers from the SAC ranked in the top 4 in Semi-State. There are individual teams that have that many guys ranked in the top 4. You're simply attempting to draw attention to yourself. You are loud and obnoxious, bark much louder than bite. I would argue that your early success has more to do with factors outside of your training (solid high school coach, exposure to the sport at a young age, etc.). If you want to claim a wrestler like Shaun Johnson is a by-product of your club, you are only kidding yourself. I know where Shaun trained when he first got into the sport and it wasn't with you. I know who his high school coach was and that also wasn't you. By the way, what is the name of your club? Where can we sign up?
  23. I can't take Major Ursula seriously. This guy is detached from reality. The way you talk about your "special club" reminds me of Fight Club. The first rule about fight club is, there is no fight club. The SAC is garbage right now and your magical mystery club isn't going to change anything.
