  1. When will they be able to have middle school wrestling? This has been a big problem. Our home Ft Wayne semi state really needs an RTC or 2 in the area. Maybe one for north of Ft Wayne and one between Ft Wayne & Muncie and each close to the state line. My thinking is having an Elkhart, north Ft Wayne, and Defiance/Toledo influence for the north and have a Muncie, Adams County/Celina, and Lima influence on the south. This could be something that Parkview Sports could really help with.
  2. Thanks, have to check out the website. Since I've went across the line, I never see the DDD anymore. Not sure if my parents still get the DDD or not on.
  3. Need to set a reminder on Monday's for this and Wednesday's for the Hitzer weekly show. Is there anywhere that lists the upcoming wrestling broadcasts on the radio, as well as the webcasts for wrestling on The Berne Witness? Excited to see Parkway wrestling South Adams again. Hoping in a few years, my cousins' sons & step sons could wrestle against each other in this match. Be even better if they made it into a super dual with Crestview and Adams Central in the future as well.
  4. They have to follow the IHSAA it seems. Ridiculous.
  5. Dear IHSAA, How about you recognize this tournament and not count it towards the number of matches or include this tournament in it! Then we can have teams qualify for the classed team dual state finals! Surprised the OHSAA is ahead of you on something like this. Makes no sense that you didn't adopt this or work with the IHSWCA after dropping the single class team dual tournament. Please leave the individual tournament as single class and DO NOT remove it. I have to clarify as common sense isn't always your specialty. I wouldn't mind if you added classed individual wrestling in addition to the single class individual tournament to help with seeding the latter. Honestly, in a perfect world you would be able to do both classed and single class dual and individual tournaments. Right now that is asking way too much. Also, seed the football sectionals or seed by regionals (two sectionals where the sectional champions play one another...again I clarify as sometimes it's needed). As Always, Normally disappointed casualwrestlingfan/(basement bias on GID)
  6. Lol her father (my great uncle) and my grandpa (my mom's side) as well as all their siblings were "strong willed" as you put it. I've been told that trait I partially possess is known as being a stubborn a**. You may have worked with my dad and/or another family state streeter's dad (on my dad's side). That state streeter is a big wrestling guy and was a good AC HWT. I wish he'd go into the room and give some pointers, but that isn't really his style. He loves being a wrestling fan and just watching.
  7. I think wrestling against Crestview would be good and talking with Jake could help you out. It's amazing how he got wrestling into a basketball crazy school. I remember when I think Lincolnview (another big basketball school) randomly added wrestling. I emailed the then AD at Crestview about starting a wrestling program or if anything had been rolling yet. I got an email saying that as long as he was in that position, it would never happen and there was no need for it. He changed roles, and Jake arrives on the school board and the rest was history. Funny thing was that once Jake got wrestling he resigned from the school board (now there could have been other reasons, but I think he had that planned). That could be the route for getting wrestling respect at Heritage. I was glad Currie & Schultz allowed my step son to do the JW youth club last year in addition to his Crestview youth club. He was able to get 2 days of practice instead of just 1 since his father doesn't take him to his practices or events. He really loves the sport and enjoyed wrestling Rivals nights with my cousins' 2 boys from SA. He's going to miss that this year since COVID has ruined that. I know Crestview was wanting to join the Rivals Nights
  8. Just so you know, they Heritage Volleyball coach has a 2x state qualifier son, but I'd like to keep him at AC for our youth program. They are family to me, so I'm a bit biased. I'm still mad that our AD chose not to hire her for the AC Volleyball position. Heritage & Woodlan have always been different than the rest of the conference when it came to wrestling. I'm afraid SW is going to head back in that direction.
  9. On the Ohio side, it was a quick meet. They had started with middle school and then 4 jv or so matches. I'm not sure how many varsity matches they actually had. Quite a few throws and pins and it seemed like Lincolnview got the majority of those. It was from a video feed Lincolnview provided from atop the gym with no announcing. Heck they didn't even have anyone announce the wrestlers to the mat. Also big difference in that they weren't cleaning their mat after every match. I like that Indiana is cleaning the mat after every match.
  10. Just a big technique gap from the Bellmont line up to the AC lineup. Bellmont has kids who wrestle most of the year, where as AC just doesn't have as many. That will most likely not change ever. It's not anything coaching wise, it's just the difference in school sizes and communities placing their focus on different areas. I think it was summed up the best on the webcast, that you can breathe a sigh of relief that it was respectable for AC and don't have to worry about Bellmont until sectional time. Since the class wrestling has started, the goal for AC is to try to win the 1A team state dual and hopefully get 1 or 2 if not more down to Indy Friday night. Bellmont is similar in trying to win the 2A team state, but they want to get 5-8 to Indy Friday night. They long for the days of single class wrestling and trying to compete against Cathedral & Mater Dei. Though, I think those days may have passed them bye just due to the focus of the bigger Indy schools & Hendricks county on the sport.
  11. AC needs to retain more of the youth and seems to be doing it more now. The big difference is Bellmont has always been wrestling first and then other sports, while AC has been football first and then wrestling. Normally Bellmont's football seasons are over weeks prior to AC's. Only 2 weeks this year difference, but that's big in conditioning aspect for wrestling. Football conditioning is not the same as wrestling. As long as this is an early season dual unlike the previous Christmas time, that advantage may go to Bellmont. Especially when Bellmont wrestlers don't always make up much of a football roster, while AC & SA wrestling clubs are mostly football players.
  12. Hendricks county plates do not have a #1 beside them. Sorry, they can be #TheCounty but not the #1 County of Indiana.
  13. Most know that in Indiana's #1 County, that Bellmont is squaring off against Adams Central. Will be different this year due to COVID, but WZBD & The Berne Witness are covering this annual rivalry match. Meanwhile, across the state line Crestview (Convoy) will wrestle their first ever high school wrestling match against their long time rivals Lincolnview (Middle Point). (For reference, Crestview borders the southeastern Heritage, all of eastern Bellmont, and northeasterrn Adams Central districts.) Most of the Crestview wrestling team will be newcomers to the sport, as I believe the freshmen would most likely have the club & at least middle school experience under their belt. I believe last year was the first year for the middle school team who did well with their club kids. Two years ago, I was able to get acquainted with the club as my step son started his wrestling career (my step children attend Crestview). Last year one of my step daughters decided to give a try and wants to again. Crestview has had help from members of different schools from the Indiana & Ohio area. I commend Jake Sawmiller who started the Convoy/Crestview wrestling club and then the middle school program. Big shout out goes to Bellmont grad Nathan Scherer who took over for Jake on the club side so that the middle school could get going as well. I believe both are Lincolnview grads, with Brandon Tobias and Travis Stemen who both have contributed to the club. Travis' son also has helped and is a Van Wert grad. I also know that AC grad (not sure he wrestled other than maybe youth & middle school) Luke Feasel & former AC wrestler Karthon McCullough have helped with practices as well. I, myself have as well, but I wasn't a great wrestler as a youth or my lone high school senior year of wrestling for the BAGUBAS, so I have contributed very little compared to the others. There are others I have missed or simply do not know their names (yet) that have made the opportunity for Crestview wrestling to happen. This is a very cool moment for a big time basketball school. With that said, I will split screen my laptop to watch both duals tonight. For me, this has to feel like the Giessler, Webb, & early Kalver years for Bellmont and the Humble years for Adams Central as a spectator. I'm excited where they can take their wrestling program. I'm sure with the youth club success, they will do very well. It appears Parkway (Rockford, OH & borders east central & southeastern Adams Central & most of eastern South Adams districts) is finally gaining that momentum with their newer program as well.
  14. Wish we could have all 4 classes on the main floor of the Coliseum every year!
  15. Yep, not sure who is in charge for sure at Parkway, but it looks like they will have a couple of underclassmen (this year or next 2) that could make a lot of noise in their individual tournaments if they happen. Really excited to see how the Crestview wrestling program turns out being in such a big basketball school. Hopefully my step son and his friends stick with it through the years, as there is some talent there. Especially if my son wrestles as well, as he will go to AC and they could have their clubs wrestle against each other if they both attend the Wayne Trace team dual for the youth clubs. Also hope my cousin (former Bellmont back up wrestler) will have his step sons wrestle for Parkway as well as his brother's boys wrestling for South Adams.
  16. Could have an interesting show idea if you talk to a former Bellmont wrestler who is helping grow a brand new program just across the state line in Van Wert County. Also have a newer program that consists of Van Wert/ Mercer County areas just across the line that is starting to gain a little more success as well. I understand though that you will primary focus on Adams, Wells, and Jay County schools.
  17. Actually had this a couple years ago wrestling at Antwerp where adults wrestled a senior division. A former Bellmont wrestler who is coaching the Crestview Convoy OH (my step-son's school club; he also wrestled with AC for rivals nights & beginner tournament) club won his group. He wrestled one or two of my wife's co-workers that were good wrestlers in high school in Ohio and are Ohio Highway Patrolmen. The crowd loved it as two heavyweights in late 30s to 40s wrestled a OT match. Both were gassed in the 3rd and OT and eventually the smaller one took a chance but got butt dragged and lost.
  18. Yes, should have been more specific and said Fall sports to late fall into winter. I wouldn't be opposed to Wade McClurg's suggestion either.
  19. If it has to happen, then move Fall to Winter, Winter to Spring, and Spring to Summer. Relax the IHSAA rules on spring sports to allow summer seasons (non IHSAA) to happen in conjunction.
  20. Like this! I've had similar thought to this. I called it "Combined Style Wrestling". I like having the 3 minutes compared to my idea. I'd have sub-periods for top, bottom or par-terre. I'd say wrestler wins the toss they choose the style and then the opposite chooses top or bottom for 30 seconds and then they switch. The final 2 minutes are neutral. I'd not let falls in one style prevent the others to be completed, but make each period independent of the fall/tech fall of one technique. Make it winner of rounds by still keeping your scoring method.
  21. Very cool to see our family friends, the Joseph Gremaux Family honored for their dedication to the sport of wrestling. There family passed the love of this sport to my family and many others in the Adams County and Adams Central community.
  22. Wonder what the numbers are on large school make up vs small school make up in the semi states? Is it that Ft Wayne just has smaller schools making it up? If so then it is the philosophy of those schools fielding athletic teams to a small extent. I personally think that is another reason that coincides with not having academies. The struggle seems to be more than just in wrestling. It seems to be in most boys and girls sports. A lot less state championships in team sports in this area than years past as well. Great example is girls basketball where Luers would bring home trophies almost every year. Outside of the two Central Noble wins over Winchester (two teams in the 20 county area) it's been pretty low.
  23. Not sure that is going to fix much either. Like I said earlier, I try to keep up with teams in a 20 county area. In wrestling that means teams in 3 of the 4 semi states. There are 2 to 3 counties I don't follow in the main semi state area of Ft Wayne not included (Howard, Miami, and Cass). East Chicago teams in that 20 county area (Wawasee, Warsaw, & Tippy Valley) didn't have any finalists. The Ft Wayne semi state had 3 runner ups in that area. New Castle had the lone champ with Allred. 4 of 28 finalists. Evansville SS and Indy and surrounding area schools dominated along with Crown Point. I think it all can be contributed to the population shift from that area to the Indy metro and suburbs.
  24. More like mid to late 2000s at the earliest. The 10's going into 20 has not been kind to the area.
