  1. Great post and I think this is a great summary of how a lot of us feel. You cannot go saying you are doing everything possible to let people know about events when this many people don't know.
  2. I agree.....or they can do a 2-3 hubs over the state and do it via phone conference.....It is time to find solutions and not fight each other over things.
  3. I was telling the Wawasee High School Head Coach (he didn't know of this new rule and they are members of ISWA) and he said he may have one. I will talk with him this weekend to make sure the information I am saying is correct.
  4. Coach Hull You would think if ISWA were going to implement this, than they would have at least given a year for schools to adapt and be prepared to host a tournament or two. I think this will hurt Fs/gr this year. I know that the ISWA means well and is a promoting body for wrestling in Indiana, but they have to look at it from all angles. It is easier to take away than to add. When you took away the qualifying it was easy for kids to just come to state and wrestle. When you add that you need 2 or even 1 tournament placement to go to state, you are now asking kids to find tournament that don't exist because teams quit having them. I hate being one of those people to just criticize, because God knows I know how that feels. Most of the coaches I know are maxed out between work, coaching and families. Most of the coaches I know have hands on in High School, Middle School and little kids programs. There are plenty of critics out there, but when asked no one wants to step up. So like I said I understand how it is to be in your position. It just sucks on our end trying to get kids coached up and keep the elite ones on track. When things change like this I just feel we need more notice to work things out. I also don't think it would have been that bad to do some surveys on here or sent out to schools. I understand you guys have your meetings, and I have been to one (like 5 years ago). There was a lot said and little done for me to justify 4-5 hours of driving. Maybe have your meetings at IHSAA State between placement and finals matches or 4 different ones at Semi-states.......Just spit balling stuff.
  5. The funny part is you keep using the ISWA to defend freestyle and Greco. when I wrestled in high school (late 80s-early 90s) AAU ran all freestyle & greco. So can I assume the same organization you are defending split this 3 months of freestyle and greco that AAU had to the 1 1/2 months of it now. So that we could have 1 1/2 months of folkstyle. Seasons change just like kids and coaches do. Kind of hard to blame kids for not knowing a gut wrench or how to counter it because we stopped requiring placement in freestyle tournaments in order to go to state. That's been a rule for what 2 years now? Like I asked before and never got an answer....what percentage of kids that got 1st or 2nd didn't go to any tournament but state. Like I said I believe that number would be high. So good idea send the kids that know what a gut wrench is but can't beat these kids.
  6. Freestyle has always been my first love and I would teach it year round if I could, but it is not what the kids want. I think you guys are pushing it in a negative way. You are more than welcome to get a hold of me and I would love to help out however I can, just think there has to be better ways.
  7. I was a 2 time sectional winner, placed 3rd at regional both years, placed 4th at semi-stated both years, lost by a last second take down on Friday night my junior year and won Friday night my senior year. Mental, believing and will have a lot to do with wrestling.
  8. It is a sad thing........but at least in the north we can push more into Hyway, Hyway State & Nationals (I’m not partial to any association as long as we can wrestle). Then there is all the border wars. Hell, if people want to set dates and weekends we can do block wrestling every weekend without any association. We could even set a website where wrestlers call out other wrestlers to wrestle each week at these meets. All ISWA is doing is limiting and lowering their numbers. Maybe they should call AAU up and see how all that turns out. There are other options out there and ISWA is just making us find them. Maybe they are trying to get smaller so they don't have to go back to the pig barns.
  9. Say what you may. I just know that whatever is going on there is catching my son's attention. Now he might only be able to be tear manager, but he would be great at it. He is even starting to wear those shirts with a PEE on them.
  10. It is a great thing for Indiana Wrestling. I know that my son has been watching a lot more of their meets on TV. He is actually showing interest by researching what programs and area of studies that they have to offer. It is nice to see them heading in such a positive direction.
  11. Good points......The other thing that goes with this is that I thought it was going to be a point of focus that mats were to be mopped between rounds this year. When we had our meet we were even called to make sure that we did this between rounds or we would be reported. I have not seen it done at any other tournament after ours.
  12. I find this to be the best logic. Not the English correcting point (that drives me nuts), but the training on skin issues. If you, the wrestling community, are going to allow officials to overrule a doctor’s note and make decisions that hold wrestlers from wrestling, than these officials or someone on site needs to be trained. As a registered nurse myself, I know that I have been trained but still cannot make these calls. Which on a side note is silly. Most if not all doctors sign these notes and have their nurses fill them out, so it will be hard to find out if they are fake or not. The only way to find out would be to call the offices and find out, but most are closed on the weekend. So, I go back to my first statement that officials, an onsite trainer, nurse or medical person that has a form of training on skin issues make the final say if needed. Being "trained" is the key!
  13. I was notified today the ref’s can override the doctor’s note today. I was told that if they have a concern, even with a doctors note that they, the refs, can overrule the note. As a nurse myself I find this concerning. If this is the case, than why can I not make the call if it has been treated? I have a kid’s family that has spent almost $200 over the last 3 weeks to have notes, since they cannot be over 7 days old even for the same spot. It is hard enough for some of these families to supply gear for these kids to wrestle, than we tell them they need a new note for ringworm every week. Now we are told that, that might not be good enough.
  14. that sucks........get healed up and ready for next year.
  15. I heard he strained his neck in practice. Just hear say though......
  16. I do not care if they call stalling at anytime in the match or if they don't call it at all. I don't care if they call 1 second pins or if it is 2 seconds for the pin. I just wish there was more consistency in the calls from one ref to the other. I don't know if that means there needs to be more clinics or more computer training explaining the rules with recorded matches showing examples. I get that it is getting harder and harder to get people to ref, but it doesn't mean the quality has to suffer. If everyone is on the same page there is less for coaches to complain about.
  17. You guys have Plymouth's 195 Jacob Lefree as a Win vs. Nolin Major Decision 13-3. Nolin won this 13-3. Nolin also beat him earlier in the season 195: Rory Nolin (WARS) over Jacob LaFree (PHS) (Dec 4-2).
  18. I don't think that would have made a difference. I don't think Mullins or Carrington could be Hatch. Then wrestling back they would had Northwood kid, and if they beat him they would have had the Goshen kid that got 3rd. So at best maybe one more win and that would not have made up the point difference. It sucks we also have 2 kids out at 170 and 182 with concussions that hurt us as well, but that's what we had to work with that day.
  19. Than it should go by grade point average. Who is putting the most time in to both sports and grades.
  20. It is 2 points for win in the weight class that you are wrestling in at NLC's and 1 point for wins in other weight classes (lower or higher). I think this is the last year for this format.
  21. I understand the complaint and such, but I truly think those make for memorable times. I still remember the smell of elephant dung every year because followed the circus........
  22. That's crap.....I have my popcorn popped and my rotten tomatoes ready to throw!!!!!!!
  23. Nolin from Warsaw beat Lefree Plymouth during season.
  24. Well back than the only cell phones were car phones. He probably paged someone on their beeper (kids this is little box the size of a pack of cards that would beep with a phone number to call back) and had to wait till they called back from a phone booth (the thing superman changes in).
  25. What if they are both pinned at the same time. lol
