  1. Did you miss the part where James beat Red when they were at the same weight?
  2. Joe Lee outweighs Nick Lee, although it is only by one weight class.
  3. Even then you can have the top four draw into each other. Does someone have the stat that show how many ranked wrestlers lost to other ranked wrestlers? How many ranked wrestlers lost to unranked wrestlers?
  4. If you have 10 years of experience and you are still that bad there is a serious problem with you. And it shouldn't take 10 years to figure it out. There we're some refs at sectionals that flat out did not know the rules. You might say "oh it's only sectionals" but IT MATTERS. It effects each wrestler's future throughout the tournament. It could mean the difference from regional qualifier to state qualifier. If there is a written exam that is OPEN BOOK and you get an 80% on it, you should not get your license. You should know 80% of the rules without having to use the book. It is your job. You should also be able to do 5 sit-ups and be able to bend over.
  5. You were told wrong. http://www.flowrestling.org/coverage/251144-2014-FloNationals/video/742277-120-Chad-Red-vs-Brandon-James#.VONsffnF90o
  6. A few years ago the SIAC had Welch, Vanhook, Wedding, Pierre i believe all made it to state.
  7. Warren Central has a salty squad. I wouldn't count them out either.
  8. They should also have to pass a physical. Too many out of shape refs out there. Some even laugh about it. When they are yelled at to get down on the mat and look for the fall or get in position for near fall, they laugh and say "I'm too old for that." If you are admittedly too old or out of shape to do an everyday task such as bending over, you should not be a licensed ref in any sport ever. And to stand there and laugh about it is a shame. Also rdrodd1, if you were so glad to see the ref topic over why did you bring it back up?
  9. His Freshman year group had 4 eventual state placers and an eventual 2x runner-up and eventual champ. Adding that Pepple is has a very good chance at winning this year could make that TWO eventual state champs. How is that not as good or better than this year's 4 wrestlers? And Glogouski was a runner up!
  10. 1A parents will just have to make more babies and put headgears on them. It will take about 15 years to see an impact though.
  11. Let me clarify. The NCAA does not separate divisions based on whether or not a school can fill rosters for sports. Meaning you can be a D1 school and still be small and have a good sports program. You can also be a D1 school and completely suck (i.e. IU). There are small D1 schools out there with less athletes and less money that can compete with the best out there. I didn't say that.
  12. The NCAA has separate divisions based on the school, not the sport. You can have a small D1 school. It is also widely known that a D2 champion is far less superior to a D1 champion. Also, athletes usually choose where they want to go. If an athlete is good enough to win in D1 he is not going to choose to go to a D3 school.
  13. It should mean a little less. You can't be the champion if there are 2 other people also calling themselves the champion. The Olympics doesn't give out 3 gold medals because some countries have smaller populations.
  14. Also colleges aren't district or area based. Anyone in the world can come and go to any college in the United States. High School has a couple restrictions for this.
  15. That is a question I cannot answer because the system was put in place long before I was ever born. If there are only 3 teams in the state we should probably make 3 separate classes. The best wrestler on each team is crowned a state champion and then those three champions battle for Mr. Universe.
  16. I am well aware that we do not have wrestlebacks. I said in another post that we should. A qualifying time across sectionals is the closest thing to a wrestleback for that particular sport. So yes, in a way, it is similar. If the #1 and #3 wrestle each other Friday night the #3 should be able to wrestleback for third. If the #1 and #3 swim in the same sectional the #3 should be able to compete at state with his or her qualifying time. You cannot tell me these are not similar. The only thing I said about being like wrestling is that they are individual sports and have only 1 state champ.
  17. Indiana doesn't. What does a qualifying time have to do with it? In swimming if you win your sectional you go to state, even if the winner doesn't pass the qualifying time. The qualifying time is only used if you don't win your sectional but are still good enough to place at state (similar to a wrestleback). I wouldn't give IU enough credit to call it a D1 wrestling program. I know a couple high school JV programs that could probably split matches with them in a dual.
  18. I know but idk how they run their wrestling! Haha... It is interesting to see this information and the way the state would be broken down for an individual tournament, I just don't think it's the best thing. I can agree with the classed team state because small schools have a lot harder time trying to fill a roster with less students to do so. They also have a smaller talent pool to pick from to make a solid team. I also like the idea of having full wrestlebacks. This is something many have been pushing for years. It is sad to see a wrestler's career or season end in the ticket round or Friday night because of a bad draw. (i.e. Sopko/ Schurg, Elmore/Baseemier, Rossbottom/Jankowski, the list goes on...).
  19. Idk? They should be, but I'm sure there are a few that that are classed.
  20. Isn't one of the reasons team state was taken away because the IHSAA made the excuse that wrestling is an individual sport? When a wrestler wins in Indiana they are crowned THE state champion. What would be the point in diluting the field if a small school has just as good of chance of having a state champion? Sports like swimming and track are not classed because they shouldn't be. Just because your school is bigger than mine doesn't mean you can run or swim faster than me. Just because your school is bigger than mine doesn't mean you are a better wrestler.
  21. How many nearly double or triple or quadruple Indiana's population? Ohio and Illinois are two of the top wrestling states around us that are classed but they both nearly double our population.
  22. You need a question mark after please and himself. You're welcome!
