  1. I saw a match where the top man had the bottom man flat on his stomach with some kind of turk in--something that had the bottom man's legs crossed over. The bottom man was completely immobile, and the top man was just sitting there and not moving off the hips. They called the bottom man for stalling. It was a terrible call. The top man has the responsibility to move off the hips and attempt a to turn in that situation. The bottom man couldn't do anything because of how the top man had his legs.
  2. I thought it was a great strategy by kral. I don't think robinson took one shot. We saw what happened last time kral pushed the action. He did what he had to do to win, and robinson did not earn a stall call.
  3. I voted for Perry, but I think Merrillville should also be on the list. They had 9 regional champs I think.
  4. Shaking hands is definitely #1. Also, best coaches bothers me a little bit. People just seem to nominate their coach and denigrate coaches they personally don't like but don't know much about their actual coaching ability.
  5. Ditka suits up and destroys everyone one after another.
  6. This comes up every year. I can't speak to what it's like in the first couple rounds anymore, but from what I can remember, it's bad the first two rounds, then it gets much better in the next two rounds. I remember if you get there after 30 minutes before the first round starts, the only seats available are way up top on the side of they gym from which you can only see two of the four mats. I have stayed away for the first couple rounds because of how bad it is, and that is a shame. I must say that I think the Merrillville people run a good tourney from what I see in the afternoon rounds. I really like how they do the finals under the lights.
  7. I agree. Although there was a split second of separation, it was really just one continuous move.
  8. It goes without saying that that was a horrible call. It's hard to fathom Big Ten refs could make that bad of a call. But the more interesting question is, do you think that should have been 1 escape and 2 takedown, or just 2 reversal?
  9. I'd be interested in hearing what people think about Penn vs. Cathedral and then the winner of that dual against Crown Point. No disrespect to Kokomo, but I believe CP beat them pretty handily earlier in the year, so I think it's safe to say CP wins that one. But then again, anything can happen. They wrestle the matches for a reason.
  10. That's ridiculous. Will anyone be posting real time updates of this match?
  11. Just imagine how many wins the Schurg family would have if they wrestled at a school that wrestled fifty plus matches in the regular season.
  12. The Northwest Indiana Times has Merrillville ranked over Crown Point in the region rankings.
  13. I agree. I think the IHSAA made a big mistake scapping team state. I used to go to team state just to watch even though my team was not in it. I guess there weren't enough people like me though. In any case, the decision has been made. I hope the IHSWCA is successful in what they are trying to do. It has the potential to be even better than the IHSAA team state.
  14. From my perspective Crown Point's wrestlers all performed at or above expectations except for maybe one. I saw somewhere else where someone said Crown Point underperformed. I think they just lost by 5 without their two time state champ to a very talented Mater Dei team who most people on here were picking to win. Now, the whole Roach at 160 situation is a whole 'nother story, but I think the CP wrestlers themselves performed admirably. They have noting to hang their heads over.
  15. Well then I guess we just have the same goal but a difference of opinion as to how to achieve it. Nothing wrong with that. Even if we did lose the Team State, Indiana wrestling would be fine, as long as we have the quality of wrestling that I saw over the past two weekends.
  16. You don't blow up your house in order to remodel your kitchen. In all seriousness, though, I believe eliminating team state is the worst possible route to improving it.
  17. Very few people would say team state is perfect as is. But you cannot fix it if they eliminate it. I can't understand why anyone would want to see it go away. No one has even attempted to say how they think that would help the sport. If we lose team state, wrestling as a whole in the state of indiana will be worse off.
  18. It doesn't matter why the changes happen, it just matters that they do happen. My point was to say that yeah, there might only be 50 viable team state teams in a given year under a class system, but they won't necessarily be the same 50 teams every year, so it's ok. I'd rather not get into specific teams because that could cause an unnecessary digression.
  19. I do not agree with that at all. Things do change. For example, just look at the region (just because I am familiar with that part of the state). Portage used to be dominant, but before that (which was before team state) it was pretty competitive between teams like Hobart, Chesterton, Valparaiso, Crown Point, Merrillville, etc. Then Portage became dominant. I am sure some people never thought they would see the day when Portage is blanked multiple times in a season. After Portage, you have a dogfight between Merrillville and Crown Point, with teams like Munster, Hanover Central, Hobart, Lowell and Lake Central right there. Then Crown Point becomes dominant. But who knows how long this will last. My guess is another dominant team will emerge in the in the near future. Not trying to get into a debate on who that will be (that can be a topic for a different thread); the point is, things do change. The region is an example.
  20. Yeah, but that doesn't mean it would be the same 50 schools every year. 50 schools at any given time having a shot to make it to team state seems reasonable to me.
  21. I created an account just to comment about this topic. I strongly believe they should keep team state. Wrestling is one of those unique sports where it is both individual and team oriented. There is something special about both aspects. In individual, you are representing your school but doing it for yourself. In team, you are doing it for your school. Why have dual meets if wrestling is not a team sport? Also, as we saw yesterday, team state is not just for the mega schools. There were two what I would call "small schools" (Delphi and EMD), two medium sized schools (Roncalli and Bellmont) and four big schools (CP, LN, PM and Penn). That being said, I agree that small schools are at a huge disadvantage in the team portion. You cannot deny that. I believe all small schools have a chance to get there eventually if they implement a strong feeder program, but still, they are at a disadvantage. I think you can rectify this by classing team state. I am not here to propose any logistical way to do this, but I am sure it is possible. Also, you could have the both the small school team state and the big school team state on the same day. All you would have to do is add one more round (in other words, have the quarterfinals take two rounds). Can you imagine how exciting that would be to have two team state championship matches going on at the same time? Now, I realize the IHSAA is resistant to change. That is why it is so important right now to just keep team state the way it is with the goal of eventually convincing the IHSAA to make some changes to make it more realistic for the smaller schools. If team state gets eliminated now, it is never coming back. And that would be a shame. I was at the team state yesterday and I truly believe it was the most exciting day of wrestling all year (yes, more exciting than individual state). Anyway, just my two cents. Feel free to disagree.
