  1. Ok, Sliga wins at wrestling, but at any other sport, I'll take Robinson ;D.
  2. I think you are giving Gelen far too little credit here. A major? Seriously. Mitch is an amazing talent, but you are talking about someone who is physically bigger and far more athletic. I'll put this into perspective for you, Gelen wrestled the heavyweight from Merrilliville a few weeks back, and I'm not trying to compare this young man to Sliga, but to prove my point stay with me. Gelen beat this young man 8-3, but in no way dominated him. Gelen was just giving up way too much weight and couldn't do things that he normally would to 220 pound wrestlers. I imagine that Sliga would have similar problems with Gelen if they wrestled. Gelen is just as athletic as anyone Sliga's wrestled with far more strength, so a major would not happen. I would agree with the 7-3 edge in 10 matches Sliga's way, but they'd be very close for the reasons I gave.
  3. While agree that Mr. Robinson should be nationally ranked, I understand why he's not. He makes it known openly that wrestling is his 2nd sport and he will be going to college to play football. Although it is his 2nd sport, I can assure you he has every intention on winning a title this year. Also, Gelen received his first Big 10 offer from Illinois the other day, so I would like to congratulate him on that. I'm sure more will be coming and best of luck in the tournament series.
  4. Fabio, I wasn't implying that there was any wrong doing at all, I'm just saying that using some of your statements, the "built it and they will come" for example, schools will need to be a lot more careful. I agree with you that these schools recruit themselves by showing lasting excellence, however, if a parent is going to use the "better academics" angle, but really mean "better wrestling", the academics portion better be true and be able to be proven. I only used your alma mater because it was an easy example and obviously there was a lot of speculation at the height of your success over there and as you stated the academics were not the best. I totally agree with you on the point that the better sports programs at given schools, both public and private sell themselves. The public schools will now have to be a lot more careful and parents will have to do a little research before jumping in.
  5. "If a kids family is willing to move to a better school system because they believe its the best thing for thier kid more power to them!" Fabio, I'm not trying to bust your nuggets, but are you referring to better school system for an education or for wrestling? Look I know Mishawaka had kids wanting to be a part of what you guys had going on over there based on the wrestling success, but you cannot tell me it was the best place academically for them. If it was purely based on academics, there were far better options in that area than Mishawaka. PM has a pretty good reputation academically and obviously athletically, so they're pretty safe as far as the recruiting argument goes. Those parents can justify it by saying it was an academic choice. At some point though I think the IHSAA will have to use logical decisions to stop what they consider recruiting.
  6. Are you talking about DI talent? Last year's group didn't have an overwhelming number of DI guys, however we did have a large number wrestling in college. I suspect that we will have just as many wrestling at some college level in the class of 2013, but perhaps not as many DI wrestlers.
  7. That's the beauty of our sport, he can beat the guy in front of him and then the other wrestler can worry about the holes .
  8. I'll let Poppa Tucker defend this one, but you are clearly talking out of the wrong end and have no clue what you are talking about.
  9. Do you have any facts to back your statement or is this your opinion? Also, what is your criteria for a quality wrestler on the national level? I would agree that this year's senior class isn't as decorated as that of the class of 2012, but I don't believe we have less quality wrestlers. I remember when people said we wouldn't see the likes of A. Tsirtsis, A. Escobedo, M. Escobedo, A. Hernandez, Coughlin, Mauer, and while those kids were special, I think that last year's class was right there with that group. My point is that it's cyclical and I wouldn't say that 2012 was the best we've seen or that the well has dried up, we just have to wait until the next wave of studs come around.
  10. He reminds me a lot of Dexter, just a little bit shorter. Once Streck hits the weightroom and changes some of the baby fat to muscle, I think he has a great chance to equal or best the accomplishments of Dexter, which is a big compliment to the young man. He's got great strength for a freshman and is a good mat wrestler, I'm a fan.
  11. Clearly that post struck a chord with you, and you are correct that he put it on Brassea after the initial takedown and back points, however, as it was pointed out, you are wrong with regard to the 20+ points Stevenson scored, so if you are going to point that someone else had facts wrong, I thought I'd do the same. Clearly those two young men are on differentl levels, no need to belittle Brassea because a poster went a bit overboard on his assessment of the match.
  12. That's exactly my point, we have a lot of undefeated wrestlers because our teams don't have the opportunity to wrestle a schedule like those of Montini and Mt. Carmel. Beyond the Tricoff and Mishawaka in the northern part of the state, I don't know where top individuals would even have the opportunity to wrestle another elite kid. There are instances when you have a few elite wrestlers in the same area, but history has shown that they ususally avoid one another, not always, but most of the time.
  13. I would say that it absolutely the reason. As a means of defending my position, I'll use three young men from Lowell. Drew Hughes has one loss in Indiana, as Lowell wrestles an all in-state schedule. Jake Tucker, and Jose Champaigne each have 10 or so losses in Illinois due to a rigorous schedule that has them wrestling some of the best in their state and throughout the country. It's my opinion that Jake and Drew would beat each other 5 times each if they wrestled 10 times and happen to be in the same weight class. My point, the rules are what make it possible for us to have so many undefeated wrestlers but not necessarily better wrestlers.
  14. I like the way Lee wrestles and he clearly represented Indiana well at Super 32, but I have a hard time identifying ways that he beats Sinkovic after what I saw at Mishawaka. Sinkovic's length and scramble ability gave Lee fits in that match-up. I've never seen Red wrestle, but from all of the 106 lb wrestlers I've seen, I like Sinkovic the most and would put my money on him at this moment.
  15. Man your last two posts have me confused. Has Wilson been at WC all through high school? Has he made a state finals appearance to this point? What are his credentials from previous years? Sorry for all of the questions, but I've seen the other 3 young men considered to be top contenders wrestle in the past and have no information on Wilson.
  16. I've not seen Wilson wrestle, but what leads you to believe he will beat Hughes by 4 or 6? What does he do so well that leads you to this?
  17. Two years in a row it's looking like 120lbs is going to be worth the price of admission. There wasn't a bad match from the quarters to the finals.
  18. I've seen 4 of the 8 on your list wrestle and I like Hughes out of that small sample. I'm a huge Garcia fan and I just don't know how he closes the gap. Garcia got in on a sweep single and couldn't finish and then got into real trouble when he went for the high C. I was very impressed with Hughes to say the least.
  19. I don't want to call you out for it Fabio, that's not my deal. I understand that we are on here to discuss wrestling and spelling or spell check is not of the utmost importance. I only pointed it out in that particular post to prove a point. Look I was 24 once and fortunately for me, the internet and discussion forums were in their infancy, so I had a smaller audience to show that I knew it all ;D. I'm not going to beat a dead horse, you get it, I hope, I look forward to more discussion and I promise to back off.
  20. I believe I’ve attempted several times to voice my issue with the way you conduct business and it has gone completely over your head. You seem to have no problem attacking others and belittling their thoughts and ideas. You use big words like “stupid” to belittle their ideas and then to defend your ideas, which consequently are always right. I find it ironic that when the same tactics are used to belittle something you’ve posted, you find it offensive and clearly get upset by someone calling you out. From the start I’ve told you that all I ask if you not be such a jerk to others, this is me clearly stating my “problem” by the way.
  21. "I use the word stupid to describe stupid things" Heed to your own advice.
  22. You of all people are calling people out on their spelling? I think the dude is a bit off of his rocker too, but if I were you, I'd pick a different means of belittling him Mr. Glasshouse.
  23. I just joined the conversation, but I would say false to both. I mean I get where you're going with your questions, but I don't think that you are going to get 100% accuracy with those questions. In theory, your thought process makes sense with more you get a better chance, but it does not always translate.
  24. Was New Castle an option for the event? It's centrally located, Im sure that that a figure could be worked out that would be beneficial to both parties. Clearly the place is big enough and inviting to all fans. While the Pepsi Center you posted looks great, 7000 seats might be over kill at this point. I think it's a great goal to work toward if the event was as much of a success as you said it was. The timing of the event is what kept me away. Too many family obligations, but I'm a fan of having something as opposed to nothing.
  25. Y2, Do you have the figures for the weekend attendance for the Team Duals? I didn't go but was rather surprised at the dollar amount you threw out. I'm not sure about the ticket prices, but if the weekend was $10 for an adult, you're looking at roughly 2000 people watching. What number of people walking through the doors would make that type of event a success? Also, how many people typically watched the team state using the old format? I never attended that event either, but was wondering if the figures were comparable. I have no agenda with my questions, just curious as a fan.
