John Rushenberg from Bishop Chatard has committed to…

Recommended Posts

Manchester University. Projected to wrestle 157/165.

John Rushenberg joined the Bishop Chatard wrestling family ahead of the 2021-22 season as a junior and quickly became one of the Trojans’ toughest wrestlers. He was a 2-time City Champion, 2-time sectional champion, 2-time regional runner-up and reached the ticket round both years he made it to the New Castle semi-state. He finished with a record of 68-13 in his two seasons as a Trojan. John’s high school career and character is best defined by his last match, when a ticket to the state tournament was on the line in the ticket round against Warren Central’s Brenton Russell, who would go on to win the semi-state and take 4th place in the IHSAA State Finals. Trailing by four with 30 seconds left, John was slammed (his second slam in as many matches) and awarded a point to bring him within three points. After five minutes of injury time, John wanted to finish the match. He earned an escape and nearly finished a takedown to force overtime but came up short. He could have taken the injury default, and his decision speaks volumes to him and the Rushenberg family as a whole. John is the second of nine siblings and the oldest of seven boys, so expect a Rushenberg in the Chatard lineup for the next 15 years!

We are thrilled for John and his family as his best wrestling days are ahead of him at Manchester.
