Purdue loses, but continues to impress

Recommended Posts

Purdue lost a match to #7 ranked Penn State over the weekend (I *think* it will be replayed on Big 10 network this week) but even in losing, there were some bright points.

- Penn State won 7 of the 10 matches.  However, a few of the Purdue losses were by narrow margins.

- Danny Sabatello continues to have a great season, shutting out Penn State's Jimmy Gulibon 6-0

- No. 20 ranked Doug Welch defeats No. 7 Dylan Alton in overtime.  Another victory over a top-10 opponent after he defeated Nebraska's James Green earlier

- Patrick Kissel loses by 1 point to No. 16 ranked Matt McCutcheon.  Kissel defated a ranked wrestler from Northwestern earlier in the week.  He's right there with some of the lesser ranked guys

- Another match that Purdue could maybe, possibly have won -- they chose not to wrestle Braden Atwood against Morgan Macitosh.  Not sure why the decision was made and also not sure Atwood could handle Macintosh, but would have been a good match

More kudos to Purdue's new coaching staff.  With a solid recruiting class slated to come in next year, hopefully they are attracting the attention of some more high school studs and will continue to gain positive momentum.
