base
Can you explain your data further? In the top table I see headings of All / 3A / 2A / 1A / 2A / 1A - but what do these represent?? Not sure exactly what I am looking at
Y2CJ41
All is all schools 3A-2A-1A are schools broken down by three even classes 2A-1A are schools broken down by two classes The first table counts a school if they have had at least one semi-state qualifier over the past two years. So 270 of the 313 schools with wrestling have qualified a wrestler for semi-state in the past two years. 100 of the 104 biggest schools have also qualified a wrestler for semi-state, and so on. The second table tallies the number of semi-state qualifiers per team in each class. Of the 1792 semi-state qualifiers over the past two years, 970 have been from the largest 104 schools. Here is another table of interesting information. Small schools are qualifying a higher percentage of their student body than big schools. However, when it comes to qualifying for state or being a state placer they are way behind. Smaller schools are holding their own in terms of having a top 20% wrestler(aka semi-state qualifiers), but to get a top 5%(state qualifier) or 2.5%(state placer) they fall behind tremendously. base
Thanks Joe, that is some interesting stats! I would be interested in seeing what the outliers are at each class. For example, does Perry/Penn place enough to make those 2 teams roughly the equivalent of class 1A? I see that it shows 71% of state placers are from 3A schools. I am just wondering if a majority of those are from a small handful of large schools with exceptional wrestling programs.
