blackhawkIV
Mental toughness in any position has to be cultivated over time working through failures and losses over several seasons. I think it depends on whats on the line during the match...Short term during the season it might seem stupid but over the long haul of the season a kid should be learning from their mistakes. If you get ridden out figure out why... watch tape, spend extra time and skill work in those positions, spend more time in the weight room, etc. In my opinion kids should be developing in all aspects of their wrestling but in marquee matches in the post season more strategic decisions have to be made as a coach. DLane
What if the kid is a good rider and rode your kid out last year or in a previous match this year? On top of that, what if your kid is struggling on bottom? oh, the decisions! if the kid was a tough rider and my kid sucked on bottom...i guess we are going neutral ;D
SIACfan
-different coaching philosophies -individual skill sets -particular matchup -situational strategy All of the above can have a role in a wrestlers/coaches decision.
nkraus
Sometimes early in the year I will put kids on bottom to make them wrestle on bottom. Later in the year in important matches I try to make the best decision for the kid to win the match. Always picking bottom isn't always right!
