The ISWA has committed to sending three elementary dual teams to the 2012 National Elementary Dual Championships to be held in Kingsport, TN on April 13-15. Currently team leaders will include Matt Brewer, Bryan Bailey, Ryan Parrish, and Danny Lane. We would like to get more experienced team leaders to join us in putting together the best teams that Indiana has ever sent to this outstanding event (hint , hint ...Brandi, Jason, Lee, Brent, Ed, Chad, Jim, etc.....).

We would like to start a list of interested wrestlers a.s.a.p. If you have a wrestler who may be interested, please let us know (See below contact information). You must contact us to be considered for the team. The final teams will be selected by all team leaders.

A time a location for the team camp / selection will be determined soon.

Below is some information on the trip.

NATIONAL ELEMENTARY DUALS

Kindergarten?5th Grade (born in 2000 or after)

April 13-15, 2012 Kingsport TN

Dobyns-Bennett High School

Trip info:

?Team members must be in the 5th grade or below, and be born in 2000 or after (both required).

?A fee will be charged to each wrestler who attends this trip. This fee will cover a T-shirt, shorts, singlet, and tournament entry fee.

?Team members will be responsible for their own transportation and lodging (a block of rooms will be held for team members).

?Weigh-ins will be on Friday afternoon in Kingsport, TN (April 13th 2012). Wrestling will begin Friday evening, and conclude on Sunday afternoon (April 15th 2012).

Team Selection Process:

1. Based on 2011 ISWA Folkstyle State Final results, up to 5 wrestlers who may fill each weight class, may be invited to a camp.

2. Each wrestler will be required to be within two pounds of their selected weight class. Wrestle-offs will be held at the end of camp to help determine the make-up of each team.

3.The final rosters will be determined by the coaches and team leaders (selection committee). Club affiliation will not have a role in team selection. The top two teams will be made up of the top wrestlers. Places on the third team will be reserved for underclassmen (developmental).

4.At the time of camp each wrestler must have necessary paperwork (birth certificate and report card) and deposit.

This is great news  that the ISWA is doing this. I see you are requesting interested wrestlers info but there used to be a qualifier, did they do away with that?

The qualifier was great. With this said, we are trying to find the best and most COST effective way to form the best teams possible.

This will be the first year with the ISWA "offically" on board.  We would like to lay the ground work so that when these youth wrestlers get to be Schoolboys, Cadets, and Juniors they will have many years wrestling in this type of tournament and the overall level of Indiana wrestling will be elevated.

Sounds great , I know Iowa always sends 3 teams as well usually the champion in each weight class on 1 team, runner up on team 2, and a younger group 3rd and 4th grades for the third team. Iowa usually is one of the most competitive teams down there. I thought the qualifier was also used to raise money for the team(s) that we sent those years using the qualifier. However it works out best of luck to all involved and thanks for helping Indiana wrestling grow.  ;D

The goal is to do it like Iowa. Inviting the top 2 or 3 kids in each weight (from Folkstyle State Results) to a camp and have team leaders select the best fit for the team to build the best Indiana team not to have talented kids on 3 different teams.

Team 1 - Champion or Runner-up (5th or 4th Grader)

Team 2 - Runner-up or 3rd Placer (5th-3rd Grader)

Team 3 - Younger Group (2nd, 3rd, 4th Graders)

If any top 8 State Placer would like to be consider or invited to camp for the team please email me at danny@contenderswrestling.com and Matt Brewer at mbrewer@eliteindy.com with current weight, grade, DOB. Also we are looking for coaches (3 per team) and team leaders (1 per team) if your interested plus shot us a email.

With all of this said, there maybe a second year Novice (who still is a 5th grader) that has a finish lower then a kid that was a intermediate.  If the Novice wrestler beats the Intermediate in a wrestle off, then they get the nod. We want the very best team possible.

We will be making a list  of potential team members over the next few weeks. We will then select a handful from each weight class to attend a selection camp. With this said, it is very difficult to know which Novices are in the 5th grade and were born in 2000 or after. We will need all of your help to ID these kids. You can email us or see me this weekend in Michigan, the following weekend in Columbus, or at Dixie Duals in Atlanta. You can see Danny in Michigan this weekend or Virgina in a couple of weeks.

  • 2 weeks later...

We have about 50 kids that have expressed a disire to go. Of these wrestlers, half have won at least one ISWA state championship! We need bigger wrestlers. We have no one signed up at 135, 148, and HWT. We have state champs from 40 to 125!

Team leaders: We will be contacting you after the first of the year.
