dolphaholic Posted February 27, 2010 Share Posted February 27, 2010 Big congrats goes out to Darren Elkins for getting a shot in the UFC, he'll be facing Duane "Bang" Ludwig as a late replacement for Spencer Fisher on the Versus card in late March. According to The Wrestling Observer, a back injury has forced Spencer Fisher to withdraw from the UFC's upcoming debut on the Versus network. And in an additional report from MMAWeekly.com, Fisher's original opponent, Duane "Bang" Ludwig (19-10 MMA, 2-1 UFC) will now face UFC newcomer Darren Elkins (9-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC). Featuring an intriguing light heavyweight matchup between Brandon Vera and Jon Jones, "UFC on Versus 1: Vera vs. Jones" takes place March 21 in Broomfield, Colo. The main card airs live on Versus. Elkins comes to the UFC on a two-fight winning streak built after suffering his first career loss in September 2009 via 13-second TKO. An Indiana native, Elkins has seven finishes in his nine career wins and most recently fought this past Novemebr in a unanimous-decision win over three-time UFC veteran Gideon Ray under the Hoosier Fight Club banner. Ludwig, a Denver native, finds himself in a pivotal fight. The 10-year veteran, who returned from a near-four-year absence from the UFC to replace Sean Sherk at January's UFC 108 event. There, Ludwig suffered a first-round submission loss to Jim Miller. It was the Strikeforce veteran's second loss in three fights and moves him to 6-6 since June 2006. Prior to the loss, Ludwig had earned a 2006 win over Jonathan Goulet and a 2003 win over Genki Sudo in his two previous octagon appearances.
