Middle School & Youth Program Survey

We are working on rearranging out middle school and youth program in the next few years.  I figured I would get some input from you guys on how other programs run.  I also figured some others on the board might benifit from the answer as they organize their own programs.

When are the start and end dates for your Middle School Season?

Do you have a Folkstyle Youth Season that is seperate from the USA wrestling season?  If so when are the start and end dates?  Is it a camp style set up (everyone practices together) or a competition set up (dfferent practice groups with a competition between the groups)?  Ate these practices seperated by age in some way?

Do you have any other camps, programs, or USA Wrestling related practice for the Youth and/or Middle School age that is completely seperated from the High School age group?

Thanks in advance for any input into these matters.

At Perry Meridian Middle our season starts after football has ended.  We are fortunate to get paid to have intramural wrestling with our sixth graders.  We usually start after fall break in October and go through the first week of december.  The 7th and 8th graders with little or no experience also practice with the 6th graders.  The returning 7th and 8th graders lift on the days the 6th graders are practicing.  We only go for an hour and half.  We usually go Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.  We usually end the session with a fun game to keep things fun and interesting(Dodge Ball, Mat Ball, etc.). The official start of the season is Early December.  We try to get in a couple of weeks in before Christmas break.  We take the 8th graders over to Ohio for a tournament at Cincy Elder.  It is a very competitive tournament.  The meet is usually right after Christmas during the break, so we have a few kids come in and practice. (Voluntary during holiday break).  We have three paid middle school coaches.  That allows the head coach to teach the 6th graders, while the two assistants run the weights and conditioning.  We get back from break and really get things going.  The dual meets begin the second or third week of January and continue through the second week of March.  Our wreslting folkstyle, freestyle and Greco seasons are done with the high school.  We all practice together at the high school.  We have an elementary camp right before our club signups to raise interest from the youth in our township.  We have one short camp in the summer for just our middle school team.  Held at the high school and ran by the middle school coach .  Hope this helps.  Coach Glasser
