  1. The alternate for semi-state is the wrestler who lost to the champion in the ticket round, is this correct?
  2. The two teams that got voted in last year with board members were North Montgomery and Churubusco. North Montgomery finished as class 2A runner-ups, and Churubusco finished as champs in class 1A. It is pretty obvious that the two teams that were invited deserved to be there. I don't get how you can make a statement insinuating that these teams were invited based on board member preferences when they finished runner-up and champion in their classes. It really is hilarious to me that you can make a statement like this still. I mean really the board should be receiving praise for getting the correct teams there, and instead you make a claims of favoritism.
  3. to go along with the most anticipated finals match this year thread, what do you think is the most anticipated finals match ever... from my time attending finals vega vs schaffer stands out for me. where do this years big ones stand up historically...
  4. I assume its because Hurford was a culver guy, and that is where y2s buddy hugus coaches. i dont want to speak for y2, but i doubt that he took the post off because hurford got pinned in middle school.
  5. olquote author=Bruin106 link=topic=30032.msg200919#msg200919 date=1392751557] I believe Logan is the first since 1996 that FW Northrop had anyone at the state finals. They also had the Ridley brothers, and Jamie Holdman in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Northrup was pretty tough durning that time.
  6. Luke Long was another that stood out. We see them during the season, so I wasnt all that suprised with how he did, he looked great against us, but i think his performance was pretty suprising to many who were there.
  7. Who were some guys that looked a little better than you expected at the semi-state? One that really stood out for me was Clayton Moore from Manchester. I really hadn't heard much about him from previous years, so he was a little under the radar imo, but he looked really good at Fort Wayne last weekend.
  8. As a coach I am always looking for ways to improve our guys for next season. Just curious as to what camps/ clubs todays qualifiers attend? I saw that Indiana Elite had a few FWSS qualifiers, anyone else want to share the ones that helped push certain kids over the top. Also if you could respond with the semi-state that the kid came from I think that would help to build an understanding of which clubs and camps are making the difference.
  9. Just curious what was the score in the match when this happened? I have no clue about anything surrounding this situation, but I do think that the point in the match that these type of things happen does make a difference. I used to think these issues where pretty cut and dry, but in reality i think that they can be tough on both sides. Also did the LN kid keep wrestling? Or did they forfeit? Again I have no clue about anything that went on in this match, just more curious than anything.
  10. Just curious as to what you guys view as being the biggest upsets ever in the opening round or ticket round? Upsets happen every year to some extent or another, what are some of the bigger ones you remember? Just off the top of my head I would put Carter Delaney from Bishop Dwenger beating Josh Ehr from South Adams. Both were quality wrestlers, but I remember watching Ehr that year and thinking he would be a for sure placer that year. Im sure there are plenty of others from over the years though...
  11. Coach Mccormick (Yorktown) haha, didn't see it on the list.
  12. the system that is currently in place has a projected replacement score, so if your seniors produce and advance to semi-state/state your replacement points will be higher and your team score should be more accurate at that point. your score also is adjusted by a multiplier based on the strength of your sectional, if the wrestlers advance this multipliers effect changes. so if your seniors do well your team could still be in contention. i cant speak to all of the in and outs of the points system, maligned is your guy to ask on that, but i can tell you that the system was designed with situations like that in mind. this happened to an extent to busco last year as we lost six seniors all of whom moved on in the tournament so our replacement score made a big difference in us getting invited this year.
  13. I agree, I just don't think they could get the 12 in the main area. I was told that any venue set-up for regulation hockey can hold 8 mats.
  14. I have never been there could it hold 12 mats? Im just comparing it to the Fort Wayne Coliseum that couldnt hold four on the main floor, so wrestling would have to be done in the expo center. I guess that could work, but there would be a greater separation between the various venues.
  15. I agree with you sentiment. As far as following the standard put in place in other sports the IHSAA only does all-in events. A lot of these same teams barely fill squads in football, basketball, soccer, etc and they count toward the classification totals. I also don't understand the concept that some teams deserve to be in class 1A and are somehow pushed out. That only works if there was a certain number, say under 500 kids that would make class A. Other than a situation like that there will always be teams that are close to the cutoff, and that could make the case that they would have faired better in the lower class. Finally to say that half of the 1A schools would be taken out if the cut-off was set at eight is another problematic idea. For one the goal of this event is to showcase schools of all sizes. Secondly I think that, that statement underestimates a majority of the teams in class 1A. I know at team state and in our conference we faced off against small schools with full or nearly full teams all year long.

  18. I have been having this discussion with my kids and a few coaches lately. When I was wrestling you always chose bottom. Unless you were getting destroyed in the match you chose bottom, it was essentially free points. I have seen more and more kids choose bottom and get rode out in the past few seasons. I also see more kids choosing neutral or top then in the past. So is the general rule of choosing bottom becoming outdated? The second part to this question, and if I could make another awesome poll I would, is top wrestling in general is getting better or is bottom wrestling just weaker, or kids are just not as tough as they used to be? When this topic gets brought up amongst coaches it usually becomes a discussion about kids lacking mindset, or a mentality to get up, as opposed to a lack of knowledge on possible ways to score from the bottom position. So are kids on bottom weaker minded, or do they lack the skills needed? Finally if top is getting better, and bottom weaker, as in the skills and movements are lacking on bottom, were can we go to grow on bottom? I have witnessed top wrestling become more dominant imo, the skills, and moves are much better than when I wrestled, but what about bottom? It seems like top wrestling has evolved, while wrestling from the bottom still uses the same moves as when I came up. Does anyone know good clinicians or videos on bottom movement, what about coaches how do you coach your guys to score from bottom? Do you guys think any knew moves/ positions will come along and add to what a wrestler does from bottom? Ok there are a lot of discussion questions here so have at it.
