  1. I don't feel hand shaking should be required. That being said I do feel that it is gesture of respect toward the opposing coach and I like to see it. I guess it?s a little like leaving a tip. Some people leave a tip whether the service is good or not while others leave a tip only when the service is good. It is a personal decision and should not be dictated.
  2. Dec. 17th & 18th. Who is going to be there? Last year I think: Bloomington South, Carmel, New Washington, Charlestown, Jeffersonville, New Albany, Jennings County, Batesville, Muncie South, Southwestern, Madison, Scottsburg, Franklin Co. Paoli, South Dearborn, & Salem. I heard that Evansville MD, & Southridge were on the list this year. I was just wondering who had dropped out. 171 looks to be a great class to watch #6, #8, & #11
  3. There is however an officially recorded weight which documents compliance or non compliance with the wrestlers weight program (1.5% max per week).
  4. You are right. I just looked at that HFHS rule it is a little grey as to when it is a fall and when it is not. I watched nearly 1000 HS matches this year and did not see a pin called on the line.
  5. I usually don't complain too much about the guy's volunteering their time to officiate the ISWA tournaments, but I do expect them to have an adequate knowledge of the USA rule book. I do realize that most officials do not have the entire book memorized but should have topics such as ?Fall? committed to memory. Case in point: My kid is taken to his back with his shoulders half in and half out of bounds. After several seconds of bridging the official slaps mat and my son looses. I approach the official and remark ?Sir his shoulders were on the line? to which he remarks back ? they were only half on the line?. The rule states: Article 44 ?The Fall When the defensive wrestler is held by his opponent with his two shoulders against the mat for a sufficient time to allow the referee to observe the total control of the fall, the resulting maneuver is considered to be a fall. For a fall at the edge of the mat to be recognized, the opponent?s shoulders must be completely in the red zone and the head must not touch the protection area. A fall in the protection area is not valid. Am I being too sensitive to expect a zebra to understand a rule as rudimentary as the fall?
  6. Life is 10% circumstance & 90% how you deal with those circumstances.
  7. James Caum 285 from Jennings Co. will earn 12 varsity letters. (Wrestling, Football, Track)
  8. You always take the discussion to the ridiculous side. Tap out, uncle, I give, you win, so let?s class the thing.
  9. I don't favor that, but small schools should be able to fill a roster.
  10. Not to my knowledge but it won't matter.
  11. If this generation divides wrestling into 3 classes, the next will want 6, and the next will want 12 ? I guess at some point we could just make everyone a State Champion just for participating? Now I realize that this is a ridiculous argument, but change always brings with it unintended consequences. The thing that I have always loved about wrestling is that unlike most other sports ?you? are rewarded for ?your? hard work up to the limits of ?your? resolve and ?your? ability. When you reach those limits you reach the limits of your personal success. Why is it that so many people want to turn wrestling into a sport much like others where the bar is lowered to accommodate those who lack resolve or who have attained the limit of their ability? People today are too quick to blame others for their shortfalls and too slow to determine to improve their situation through hard work. We are where we are because of decisions that we have made and not because we are being treated unfairly. If programs are suffering it is because coaches, administrators, parents, and athletes made choices that looked good at the time but had unintended consequences. If programs are excelling it is because coaches, administrators, parents, and athletes made good decisions that helped them get to where they are. In life there are always those who have an easier path just because of circumstances. There are also those who have to struggle for everything. We are who we are because of what we have had to overcome and not because of what we have been given.
  12. Wathen 152 from Jennings County Sophmore (2 year varsity letterer in wrestling, starting varsity outside LB, varsity leter in track as a freshman)
  13. Wathen 152 from Jennings County is a Cadet
  14. Just joking around with you. No offence taken here. Hope the same there.
  15. My wife says you didn't mind helping yourself to the country squire hospitality room.
  16. Rankings are for fun! They are a good way to see how other guys are performing and how one wrestler "might" stack up against another. If you are trying to replace the tornament with statistical analysis then we could just let computers wrestle the state tournament. You notice that there are 16 guys ranked in each class. the bottom 10-15 in any one could be replaced by other guys who have either not wrestled the top 16 or who have decided to stay under the radar by not posting results. The ranking guy can't be at all events and does the best with what info he has. He makes changes to his picks when he has new info. I think he does a great job and I would not want to have to spend the time that he does reading the many e-mails he gets every day.
  17. Took the words right out of my mouth.
  18. Why is it that any time a kid gets pinned his fans say he got caught?
  19. Team Results: 1. Jeffersonville 258 2. Jennings County 235 3. Flolyd Central 173 4. Columbus East 162 5. New Albany 133.5 6. Madison 109.5 7. Seymour 97 8. Bedford North Lawrence 59.5
  20. This would never happen with our team. Our team rules state that if a wrestler fails to make weight he not only will not wrestle at that event he will run 30 laps as punishment. If he fails to make weight a second time he is forced to move up to the next weight class at the lowest rung on the ladder. I think this is an issue of discipline more than that of fairness.
