  1. And they switched from white shoes to black shoes. Tradition is starting over
  2. Could someone please post the brackets. It will allow for some predictions and more discussions about SIAC Wrestling. I think the SIAC could have five individuals in the state finals. SIAC is starting to move back as one of the elite wrestling conferences.
  3. MD is not wearing tights. Unbelievable
  4. The anticipated wrestling drama in a packed house on the West Side between Kentucky’s top-ranked team, Union County, and third-ranked Mater Dei, never materialized in a 45-22 win for the Wildcats. Neither did the projected individual matchup between Mater Dei freshman wunderkind Nick Lee and Oklahoma-bound Braves senior Trae Blackwell, a two-time defending state champion for Union County. But there was enough individual-match drama to keep the crowd loud and involved as the Wildcats got off to a fast start at 152 pounds behind Logan Weinzapfel. Weinzapfel fell behind Chad Gahafer 7-0 in the early going and still trailed 8-6 with time ticking down in the third period with the wrestlers scrambling at the edge of the mat. “He had his leg hooked over mine and it could’ve gone either way at that point,” said Weinzapfel. “But I was able to lock his head and I just stacked him up.” The resulting pin came at 5:56 — four seconds left — and blew the lid off Mater Dei Gym. “I knew the first match would be setting the pace,” said Weinzapfel. “It was one of the most-rewarding moments I’ve had to see so many people here and have their support like that.” Mater Dei followed with a pin from Ashton Forzley, a decision from Bennet Kempf and a major decision from Sam Bassemier to build a 19-0 lead and the Braves couldn’t recover. “That first match was huge,” said Mater Dei coach Greg Schaefer. “We go from being three down to start to six up. It had a lot to do with the dual against a really good team.” Union County coach Marcus Hoehn said: “It was a match that could’ve gone differently, but we came here to face a good team top-to-bottom like Mater Dei and wrestle in a great atmosphere. “We want to put our kids in these situations with a hostile crowd so they don’t focus on it when they get to state.” Neither Blackwell or Lee disappointed when they wrestled, even if it wasn’t against each other. Blackwell pinned the Wildcats’ Blake Jourdan in 4:39, while Lee earned a technical fall against Braves senior Robert Dezember, who finished third in the state in Kentucky last year. Union County’s other headliner, senior Brock Ervin, who is already a four-time state champion and will wrestle at Illinois, got pushed in spots by Mater Dei’s Wyatt Seng before earning a 19-8 major decision. “They have some great individuals,” said Schaefer. “but I thought we wrestled well. The effort was there.” Mater Dei then had a 77-6 win over Harrison.

  8. MD mat put Schweitzer in at 126 and bump Lee up to 132. Just putting an option out there
  9. I saw Schweitzer get two matches at 126. With him there it give MD options to bump around during duals
  10. MD and Union Co wrestle on Wednesday, Dec 18. Great match with 126 and 132. Lee vs Blackwell and Ervin vs Jourdan.
  11. Johnson beat them both in close matches Sent won against BS and Castle too (if I remember right)

  14. This new sectional may help MD carry more to SS and State. Their sectional is weaker. They will get more first and second place at sectional, which in turn will set them up at Regional. I can see MD advancing 12 to Regional and 12 to SS. At the SS level MD will take a beating with 5-6 advancing to State. (Depending on the Draw) As to the 195: I heard that the MD 195 (Collins) is going to the doctor this week to see if he can be cleared. If he is cleared, he should win the sectional. Hopefully he gets cleared, and he will get to two weeks to get some conditioning before he hits tougher portion of the post season. The Memorial 195 wrestled at SIAC and took 1st. I do not know if he is hurt, but it did not look like he was. Overall, the SIAC 195 weight class is very weak. Memorial may be a semi-state qualifier. MD Collins is a legitimate State Qualifier. The rest of the SIAC 195lber season will end at sectional or regional. (Barring no huge upsets or strange circumstance like DQ or missed weights) Right now I would project the Castle Regional representatives to the Evansville SS is: 1. Collins MD (if he wrestles) 2. Salkill (SS) 3. Blake Brown (Memorial) 4. North Posey Boy???
  15. I heard that MD Collins will be back for sectionals. Can anyone verify this ? It will be a big boost for MD. I also heard their 220 has been cleared also. MD will be a much better team with both of them.
  16. Where is MD 195lber Collins. He has not been seen on the mat yet. MD missed out on many points with him not wrestling. I believe he was a returing MD Holiday Champ. I was told he was injured, but some MD faithful said he should been back wrestling already.
  17. 1st round Castle 27 Greencastle 40 Jasper 48 Jeff 17 BS 34 MD 24 MD ff last two wts (195/220) Parkinson over Sietzsinger 3-2 ot Thacker over Schneider 1-0
  18. Well the season has started for most of the SIAC teams. Central went 8-0 and North finished 7-1 at the Turkey Classic. Reitz opened up with a win against Ft Campbell. No Schnarr, if it is true a big lost for the grapplers on the hill. Central hosted Union Co(KY). Union Co is ranked 1 in KY Dual ranking and they showed why. Union Co gives Central their first lost. Great win by the team from across the river. This week-end MD hits the mat for the first time. Looking for to see who made the line-up. Heard that their might be some surprises. Hope all the SIAC teams have a great start to the season, and hope Evv Memorial and Ev MD produce at the State Duals. More to come later.
  19. Just finished reading the IHSAA Winter Bulletin and it has Evansville Central hosting the the Regional. Is this correct? Anyone have any information on this. http://www.ihsaa.org/Portals/0/ihsaa/documents/quick%20resources/Winter%20Bulletin.pdf Above is the link.
  20. Let's get it started....no one talking about the SIAC. I know that 3 Teams are left playing Football (Reitz, Castle, MD), but all of the rest of the teams are up and going. Any info on projected line-up or suprising information? I have heard some whispers from the West Side and North Side on possible weight changes and possible no-shows in the wrestling room this year. We will have to wait until Football is over to get at the bottom of these situations. We all should be proud that we have 2 SIAC School wrestling in the IHSWCA Duals in December. After this is over, I would expect that line-ups might change for Memorial and MD to put thier best tournament team together and not the best dual team. What is everyone thought of the new Sectional alignment? Fergy got his wish and got away from MD in the Sectional. Hopefully it will help them improve their team point for the IHSWCA Duals scoring format. This whole change is just is mind blowing to me. What does everyone have to say? Good luck to the Football teams still playing, but lets get to wrestling So IN Whisper
  21. Now that some SIAC Schools open their season at the Turkey, Do we have any line up projections yet? I have heard Central has an intra-squad meet on Tuesday at 6pm. I have heard it is open to the public. Any info on MD or Reitz line-up? I have heard many rumors about projected line-ups, but it will take the Football Players more than 2 weeks to get their conditioning right. whisper out on the east side is that the welches are going 119, 145, and 152.... 119 maybe the toughest weight class this year with (Welch, Moody, May, Mattison, and Wedding) ...If May is in the line for MD, I will pick him. What is everyone hearing?
  22. First of all MD is the best in the South....I do not think they will be challenged by Reitz or Castle...neither of them match up very well with MD. MD will be match up problems with almost very body this year. I agree they are very deep and talented. Now to the whispers coming form the west-side: MD may have 3 varsity level wreslters not make the varsity line up this year...they may not make the cut during wrestle offs...It must be nice for Coach Schafer to have that luxury to have that kind of competition in the room....since the Fball teammay be playing late into Nov. Whispers form the north-side; From people supporting the 1st ave school are suggesting that they will be a power in 2 years....they believe the soph, fresh, and 8th grade classes is as good or better than anyone else in SIAC. Whipser from the east-side: Could Castle not fill an entire varsity roster?.....It has been said if they can get a full roster, they will be filling it with 1st year wrestlers...oouch. Like see if Harrison continues to grow and improve? I will have to get close to Tiger land to hear info on the mighty tigers. More later
  23. the following is only my view of the meet. Against MD they started at 152, they lost at 152 and then there 160 got pinned. the 103 and 130 looked shell shock on the mat.....no aggressiveness. Many times the PM coaches were upset with there wrestlers lack of shots and aggressiveness. I saw twice the coach throw his rolled up paper in the air in frustration because their wrestlers did not perform like they should. Ask the coach and wrestlers and they will say they did not wrestle their best and was flat. Just my thoughts
  24. I was there, I will post what I know MD 5-0 (beat Father Ryan, Franklin, Forest Park, PM, and HH) Reitz 4-1 (Lost to Father Ryan) PM 3-2 (Lost to Reitz and MD) Father Ryan 4-1 (Lost to MD) North 0-5 Memorial ?? HH ?? Castle ?? Franklin lost to MD & Reitz Forest Park 1-4 Only beat North Md look good all day, never threatened Reitz shocked PM in the first round and then lost to Father Ryan 36-36 on criteria PM looked flat against MD and Reitz HH wrestled well on day
  25. It is very windy today in the Ohio Valley Pocket City......Southern IN Whisper just heard that Dane Maurer from MD is not wrestlilng this year......someone close to the program needs to verify this for us. Anyway, best a luck to Dane. Whisper had to go to Posey for the Turkey Classic over the week-end....My thoughts is MV was better than everyone else ther. They are a good solid team, but not as good as the big three (MD, R, Cas) never the less still looking good. North is not the 4th best team as of right now in the SIAC.....after this week-end North, Central, and Harrison all split. Have to wait for Memorial and the F-ball players to get into action. Lastly, the whisper out of Castle is the the Welch twins are going 160 and 171....hard to believe....will anyone from Castle (Blue Bolt) confirm or deny this Good luck to all this week-end........there is plenty of action with the Big Hill Classic and MD opening this season too.
