  1. I just heard that this is solely a Ticketmaster issue.  They have their advanced team working on fixing the problem as quickly as possible and hope to have tickets available for purchase within the hour.  Ticketmaster hasn't seen this type of response since Taylor Swift ticket sales crashed their site (they didn't actually say that part).

I was told that anyone who has purchased tickets that said to pick up at will call should be receiving their tickets digitally as expected.

  2. Attached are files from the Explore Evansville group with information for fans attending the 2024 IHSAA Wrestling State Finals in Evansville, IN this year.  IHSAA_Know_Before_You_Go[1].pdf

You will find a QR code for a list of food and beverage offerings and one for exciting experiences and unique attractions in the Evansville area.

Also attached is information about the Fan Festival that will take place outside the Ford Center from 1pm-6pm on Saturday.  There will be a shuttle service available for fans to take to and from the Ford Center to Franklin St. for additional dining options.

  3. Jasper dropped out several years ago.  Hobart took their place for a few years and then Avon replaced Hobart.  Over the years, the 6th team has included Fern Creek, McCracken County, and Paducah Tilghman from Kentucky.  Paducah Tilghman was scheduled to come again this year but they just competed in the Kentucky football state championship and do not have any of their football players which make up 10 of their 14 varsity spots according to their coach.  The teams that will be in attendance this year are Avon, Bloomington South, Castle, Evansville Mater Dei, and Jeffersonville.

Wrestling begins at 9am.  Doors will open at 7:30am.

    Schedule is:

Round 1:  Jeff. vs. Bloom. So., Mater Dei vs Avon            Bye: Castle

Round 2: Castle vs. Jeff., Bloom. So. vs. Avon                 Bye: Mater Dei

Round 3: Castle vs. Mater Dei, Jeff. vs. Avon                   Bye: Bloom. So.

Round 4: Castle vs. Avon, Bloom. So. vs. Mater Dei        Bye: Jeff

Round 5: Castle vs. Bloom. So., Mater Dei vs. Jeff.          Bye: Avon

  4. Assistant Commissioner Robert Faulkens also presented a proposed realignment for the 2017‐18 Wrestling State Tournament for the group’s consideration. The intention is to have this proposal approved in the next spring.

A motion to approve the plans for the 2016‐17 Wrestling State Tournament Series was made by Don Gandy; seconded by Ed Gilliland; motion passed 15‐2 with Richard Lance and Mike Whitten dissenting.

First off-anyone know the details of the proposed changes?

Second- Who in the world are the two guys who voted no? All other sports in this meeting got unanimous votes. Anyone have any insight?

There is a proposal to move Regional to North.  That hasn't passed yet.  Regional host assignments not made until after realignment of teams.

  6. JV Teams wanted for Saturday.  If you are interested, please contact me at btaylor@warrick.k12.in.us by Friday 1/3.  We do not wrestle JV duals.  We will match kids up by weight class and try to get them 3-5 matches depending on time and number of wrestlers in each weight class.  Weigh ins are at 7am CST with wrestling beginning at 8am.  We already have 8 teams bringing JV wrestlers and are looking to make this a great day of JV wrestling.

  7. I am sorry I did not run the streets screaming and hollering about this win like you obviously did. In fact just to hopefully appease you I did a cartwheel in celebration of the win. I hope you take that as a late celebration and forgive me for not celebrating sooner. I did not realize how big of a deal it was to you guys and apologize profusely that I did not share your initial excitement.  I surely home Chad doesn't rest on this one win like you guys seem to be.

    Me too and I agree

And since I never wrestled D1 that somehow means I can't say anything? Did you wrestle D1? If not you shouldn't be commenting on this topic either.

Wasn't asking for a cartwheel.  Doubt that could happen anyway.  Nor did I say Chad was satisfied.  He's looking to do bigger and better things and this was just a minor accomplishment along the way.  Again, stop being such a jerk.

I'm sure you will be Iowa.  I'll listen for you downplaying all the big wins.  I'm sure it'll sound something like this...."Someone just beat David Taylor?  So what? Dake's done that before.  No big deal."

I didn't wrestle D-1 either.  I didn't say you weren't allowed to comment.  Just asked why you were so superior that you can downplay big time wins in D-1 wrestling?  I think it's pretty cool that all of these Indiana kids have punched their tickets to the NCAA tournament.  Do you not get excited every time your kids punch their ticket to State?  Or are we going to say that's not a big deal either?

I'm done with this conversation at this point as I am moving past this nonsense.  Go ahead and continue to post your disrespectful comments all over this board and continue to delete the ones that make you look foolish.

Good luck to all the Indiana kids that will be wrestling in Iowa.  Looking forward to seeing a lot of the Indiana coaches there as well. Safe travels next week.

  8. Here is the whole post by the way, which was done on Feb 29, 2011Still time to tell with the assessments, but Bratcher has hung up the shoes and Raley was a JUCO AA last year.  Roach started most the year for IU until an injury forced his season to end prematurely.  One of the Welches was varsity, while the other was behind Pat Robinson and Kyle Mosier.

For the record, Doug split the two wrestle offs with Pat.  Pat winning the first, Doug winning the 2nd.  They did not have a 3rd wrestle off.  Doug did get some varsity matches this season for Purdue.  Mosier, was behind Chad Welch at 174.

I guess my biggest problem is why you even had to say something at all.  It makes you sound like a complete jerk off when someone was just celebrating a big win over (by everyone else's rankings except yours) a top 10 kid in the country.  Yes, that is a big deal.  How many top 10 kids have you ever beaten in your career?  Stop downplaying everyone else's success.

I will be in Iowa cheering on Chad and all of the other Indiana wrestlers no matter what school they attend now.  It IS a big deal to make it to the NCAA Wrestling Championships.

Here's what I'd like from you.  Why don't you tell us about your wrestling career and credentials that make you so superior that you can downplay wins like this?

    Stop being such an D-bag.

  9. All this talk about the travel time to Evansville let's you know how we have felt for years!  Before the Semi-State was moved to Evansville, teams from this area had to travel to Seymour (2 1/2 hours) and then turn around a week later and make the trip to Indy (3 1/2 hours before I-69).  Teams from Bloomington/Indy area have a long trip to SS but a quick trip to Indy.  We have a quick trip to SS and long trip to Indy.  It's all the same in the end.  The teams that have a real complaint are the teams from Louisville area (Jeff, Floyd Central, New Albany, etc) because they have to make a 2-2 1/2 hour trip both weeks.

If it took you 4 1/2 hours from Greensburg, you need to drive faster because Mapquest says 3 1/2.

  10. As the coach who went to the table, I did not demand it be called a pin.  I just wanted to remind the official of the rule that if pin criteria was met before the buzzer, the it is a pin. It doesn't matter when he blows his whistle or slaps the mat. Todrank is a good wrestle but was not frustrating Welch. Luke was in control of the match. At that point in the dual meet, we needed all the bonus points we could get so making sure we got 6 instead of 5 for a tech or 4 for a major was pretty important. Just wanted to clear that up.  It was a great yak meet and looking forward to a very competitive Sectional.

    Brandon Taylor

I wasn't there but know Reitz forfeited their last match. I was also told that Todrank was doing very well against Welch and the pin was waved off by the official because it was after the buzzer but the Castle coach ran over to the table and was demanding the pin called and the official called the pin. If I were a coach with that kind of dominate wrestler I would have just let the coin be tossed and continued the match. Todrank was frustrating Welch so the Castle coaches had to take whatever call they could get just to get out of there with the win.

  11. And John Smith said that we are hurting the sport by not having class wrestling here.

Think about this, if you were a college coach with a limited recruiting budget which state finals would you attend?

    A. The state finals where you could see and scout 224 wrestlers

    B. The state finals where you could see and scout 448 wrestlers

If I was at a school of OSU's caliber like John Smith, I'd go to the the first so I could see the BEST!!  How many of those bottom 224 wrestlers do you really think could wrestle at OSU?  Now, a D2, D3, or NAIA school would probably like the other one because those are the kids they'd probably get.  Bad argument using John Smith.  He's not going after State Qualifiers.  He wants the BEST OF THE BEST which one class tells you who that is!!

  12. Can someone make a poll on what COACHES would like to see on this website.  (1) Keep the weight classes the way they are now or (2) change them back to the old weight classes.  I know there are a lot of other ideas that have been thrown out there but if these are the only two, what would everyone vote for?  I don't know how or I would do it.

  13. While in STL for the NCAA's this past weekend, a coach from California approached us and asked where we were from.  When we responded that we are from Indiana he knew that we couldn't attend his tournament in CA over Christmas break because of our travel rules.  He said "You guys have some messed up rules in Indiana.  But the good thing is you are one class.  You know who the best is.  One class, one champion."  While some of you might think going class would be a great idea, other states who are classed don't necessarily like it.  For us to be known around the country as a single class state says a lot for us knowing that other people want to be like us.  That guy said it best "One class, one champion!"

  14. I am not a Castle fan BUT this had to be one of the worst calls I have seen in 35 years of watching this sport. Coach Harmon tried to argue the point and I thought he had it overturned and inthe end he got the shet end of the stick.

I don't post on here too much but I will agree that it was a terrible call.  I hope Louis Rosbottom feels good about himself knowing he blew not only that call but the near fall call as well.  Not only did I see him count to 2, but I also HEARD him say "1..2....no near fall".  I asked him to ask his mat assistant for his opinion and he told me that he would not ask him because it was his call.  What's the point of having an assistant official if you won't even ask him for his opinion?  Several of the other officials (I will not mention names) came up to me and told me that we got screwed on both of those calls.  I am not bashing all officials because I know it's a difficult job and there are only a few people in the state willing to do it, but don't let your personal opinion of a school/coach affect your officiating.

  15. Chad Welch will be wrestling in the finals tomorrow night.  He beat Brennan (3rd place from NJ) in the Semis 12-0.  Will face Christian Barber (NJ State Champ) in the finals.  So far Chad has 3 falls and on major decision.

After Doug lost to Green, he came back to beat NC State Champ 13-2, beat 3x WY state champ 10-7, and beat MD 3x placer (4-1-2) 4-0.  He will wrestler Boontjer (CA 5th place) first match tomorrow in route to come back for 3rd.  After the match, Green did talk to Doug and told him he was his best match of the season (for what it's worth).  Every match Doug has had has been against a State Champ.  Sounds like pretty good competition there.
