lsk10135 is exactly right with the info on the smaller schools from the WRC. At Rockville, we currently have 7 wrestlers. Most of them do play two or three sports, are in 4-H, hunt and fish and have jobs. A couple of our wrestlers did wrestle some off-season last year, but again gas prices, entry fees, and other expenses make it difficult to go very far from home. Also, most of those on the team did try to travel to bigger schools in the offseason to work out with their wrestlers, but often found that when they got there, that the day had been changed without notification, so that again is a killer on the wallet and clock. Many other boys who have previously wrestled have opted out as they were encouraged to lift for next fall's football season. In a small school, that mindset kills a sport. We are proud of the wrestlers we have and how they have performed this year. We have wrestled North Montgomery, Bishop Chatard, New Palestine, Whiteland, Sullivan, and West Vigo, just to name a few bigger schools with quality programs, so our AD and coaching staff are trying to get our boys some quality matches. We have not won any big team tournaments, but we have been in the hunt a few times, so that shows that our numbers may be few, but our will to win is as great as the guys who wrestle all year. Rockville is 5-6. We have beaten Turkey Run twice, Park Tudor, North Vermillion, and Attica. We have lost to North Montgomery, South Vermillion once, Benton Central, Bismarck Henning, Covington, West Vigo. We have not wrestled South Vermillion twice. Thanks. -

As usual, we want to try to make everyone happy in this world and it just is not like that. Somewhere, sometime in life, people are just going to have to learn that you have to make choices in life and then you have to live with them. You cannot have everything your way every time, at least that is what my momma and daddy taught me. Maybe they can form a homeschool wrestling club and wrestle around the state or with other states. Then, there is the ISWA which I believe is open to everyone. I guess I thought public school activities were for enrolled public school students. I am done, thank you.

As with public school students, I am sure that there are varying grades for students in the homeschool environment. Not all students will make straight A's, nor will all fail, but my point is that there level of standards may/ will be different than the public school for which they are trying to become an athlete. I know that there are homeschool students who are excelling when they were placed in a public high school. I also know some children who are behind because they were homeschooled. Would they have been behind had they attended public school? Who knows? That is a possibility, but students who are on the same public school team should be judged/graded with the same scale. JMO

I do not feel that homeschooled students should become public school athletes. Public school students have grade requirements to meet which may not be the same requirements that the homeschool students' scale is. Their parents have made the choice for whatever reason to homeschool, so they should not be able to choose which public school activities they want to participate in.

I'm looking forward to Saturday. I am hoping this weather system gets out of here so that wrestling can actually happen. I think Southmont has a couple of wrestlers that will advance as does Fountain Central. I am especially pulling for our Rox wrestlers! Good luck to Joe Leatherman, Jake Thurman, Jared Paxton, and Robbie Foster.

I logged out, back in, and also had to install a new media. It is working well now. I wish that we could have done this during the afternoon so we would not have missed any of the wrestling!
